Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Long Distance 900MHz MonitorCustomer Review: Excellent reception and easy to use! Summary: 5 Stars
We purchased the Fisher-Price Long Distance 900MHz Monitor for our new baby's room. Like all Fisher-Price products, this has very simple and durable form factors.
However, though it looks like a toy (and therefore fits right in with a small child's room), it is packed with reliable technology. The "broadcast" base has excellent gain -- we have it on a shelf *across* the room from the crib, with no loss of sound quality or coverage. The wide, flat base also doubles a large "night light" that can be turned on or off.
The single remote receiver has an integrated power and volume dial, so it is extremely easy to use. It also has a series of red LEDs that show the strength of broadcasted sounds, giving a visual as well as audio cue when the baby cries. It has a sturdy belt clip built into the casing.
Our home is brick, and our lot nearly an acre -- but the signal strength has been excellent everywhere we've taken the receiver. With four different "channels" to choose from, we have had no interference from our other wireless devices (e.g., cordless phones, network wi-fi access point, etc.).
I highly recommended this device for parents who want peace of mind, and can make-do with a single receiver.
Customer Review: Works great for this broody hen! Summary: 4 Stars
Well, I purchased this Long Distance monitor for a different reason than most reviewers. I actually use this to monitor my chickens and their coop for predators (after a close call weasel attack in the coop). The range of this monitor is really good. Granted it has some static if you get over the 500 foot range, but it does pick-up voices (chicken and otherwise) very well even through the static. The price is very competitive here on Amazon and using the Super-save shipping is about $4.00 cheaper than our local Wal-Mart's price on the same item. This picks up well through many other electric signals too; as I use it at night in the same room as my cable, cordless phone and wireless internet connection. When I use this it's picking up through 6 walls too. In the 100-400 foot range it is very clear. I also like the feature it has if it loses the signal it beeps- very handy. I've not had to use it with the batteries yet, so I cannot comment on the battery life with this product. The only gripe I really have is the little belt clip on this isn't really attached too well. Otherwise, I'm very happy with this product. I'd recommend it to any animal keepers or new parents!
Customer Review: Excellent little monitor Summary: 5 Stars
Outstanding sound quality across the entire house and even into the yard. Far more sensitive than the polycom star phones we use in my office at work, this monitor can pick up the sound of a baby sucking a bottle from across an entire room. In fact, if I have any complaint about the microphone, it is that it is perhaps too sensitive and picks up lots of ambient noise, leading to a low level hiss from the receiver speaker whenever the monitor is in operation. Like all very sensitive receivers, it can pick up feedback at times (resulting in a high pitched whine) but this hasn't been a significant issue.
The receiver delivers solid performance on and off the AC (powered by three AAA alkaline batteries in mobile mode). The battery door is screwed shut, which is a pain, but has the beneficial effect of making the receiver a bit more durable when it is clipped to one's hip.
I wish that this unit came with a second remote, but one is available on other Fisher Price monitors--at a higher price point--so if a second remote isn't important, this is a cost-effective way to get peace of mind.
Customer Review: Don't let it's size fool you...It's a great monitor. Summary: 5 Stars
I've owned 3 baby monitors and hadn't found one that even came close to the range it advertized. This one DOES! It's clarity is excellent. It even picks up my office wall clock ticking sound. I haven't had to replace batteries yet, and I've had it for two weeks, and use it 8 hours a day (minus weekends). And the nightlight feature is surprisingly useful. It has four channels but I have yet needed to switch from it's default channel. I'm able to go 3 houses down the street, and still get great clarity.
I'm a sucker for good design (being an engineer myself), and I only have three minor criticisms. One is that battery installation requires a tool (small screw driver). The second is that the belt clip could be more secure...It's a tad floppy wearing jeans. This third criticism isn't a real criticism, but more of a 'wish'...and that is, "I wish it had headset capability, so I could mow/weedwack/etc and still hear the monitor".
Great monitor, and great price too.
Customer Review: great monitor for the price Summary: 5 Stars
We actually live in a one bedroom condo, so we didn't think we'd want a baby monitor, but this monitor has been great! We have a swimming pool at our condo that is about 1000 feet away, and with this monitor, we have the peace of mind that our baby is okay without breaking the bank. It works great, and you can hear every sound. I like the sound/lights feature, because sometimes the lights catch your eye when you can't hear the sound. I also think the batteries last fine, as long as you don't leave it on for long periods of time.
When we looked into other monitors that were long distance, we were shocked at the price. I can't imagine any monitor being that significantly better to warrant the huge price tag! I would definitely recommend this monitor to anyone who has a small budget but needs the distance factor.
