Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Learning Patterns Rocker

Customer Review: Not one of my favorite baby products
Summary: 3 Stars

We got this chair as a shower gift; I personally thought bouncers are boring and didn't even register for one (I registered for a swing instead). And indeed, my daughter was never really happy sitting in it, even the vibrations didn't help. The toys are boring, I ended up hanging a more interesting toy and that occupied her for some time. The only time the chair was useful was when we started feeding her solids and didn't have the high chair. Then she loved it, since she associated sitting in with getting fed :) I would recommend a swing or a more exciting bouncer, with lights and music instead of this. I also don't see this as a kid's rocker - I would rather buy a rocking horse or something similar. I don't think its a bad product, good quality and easy to assemble, just not for those babies that like something that's entertaining.

Customer Review: Don't buy this chair!
Summary: 2 Stars

I received this chair at my baby shower, and initially I loved it. Recently though, the rubbon attaching one of the toys to the toy bar came apart and my son's hand got caught in the fibres - a definite choking risk, if not a strangulation risk! This chair was returned to Fisher Price and I bought another one.

My 8-month-old son managed to tip the second chair over within 24 hours by sitting forward to suck his toes, which meant that he landed face-first on my kitchen floor with the chair still attached to his butt!! Fisher Price informed me that the chair isn't suitable for children able to sit forward (i.e. about 8 months) until they are able to sit in it themselves without the straps with their feet on the floor (about 18 months!). I was disgusted with this and returned this chair too! Bad marketing really since the main picture on the box shows a child of about 9 months playing happily with the toys on the toy bar!

I now have the 2005 version of this chair. The seating position is subtly different so that the child sits lower, making the center of gravity lower and the chair more stable, and the front of the rockers are fitted with bump stops. Even when my son leans right forward to suck his socks, the chair isn't anywhere near the tipping point. I know because I experimented with the demo model in Babies R Us before paying for a new chair!

On the minus side of the new chair, the method of attaching toys to the toy bar has changed - instead of velcro loops it is fitted with velcro straps so that you can only attach the toys that come with the chair, unless you modify it by adding your own loops to accomodate link-a-doos or similar rings.

Don't waste you money on the Learning Patterns model, spend a few bucks more and get the safer (in my opinion!) 2005 version!

Customer Review: The hanging toys are boring!
Summary: 2 Stars

My daughter received this as a present when she was 3 months old, she now is 8 months old. She never really liked it. She would play in it for a short time but that was it. We put more interesting hanging toys on it and she seemed to like it better. I hope she likes it more when it is just a plain rocker for when she gets older. Buy something else :)

Customer Review: My baby LOVES this!!
Summary: 5 Stars

We got this thinking we may or may not use it. Let me tell you we could not have lived with out this now. This is the only thing our baby will sleep in besides our arms. The vibration is perfect for lulling her to sleep. When she wakes the rocking tops it off. She is only 1 week old so we havent really used the toys yet. The straps hold her in perfectly in case she decides to start leaning foward. The recline is wonderful. We usualy dont use the little kick stand, she perfers to sit a bit to sleep. I stick a little pad on both sides of her head so it dosnt flop to the sides. This is a great rocker for the price!

Summary: 5 Stars

This was one of the many gifts given to me by my sisters who are "Proud Aunts". My daughter and I love the colors/patterns. The chair is very well made and the fact that the chair can grow with my daughter is great! I take this chair with us when we travel because I found in the first few months she enjoyed taking her naps and sleeping in the chair. We started calling the chair "the sleeping chair".
