Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Learning Patterns RockerCustomer Review: one of my must-have's Summary: 4 Stars
I registered for this after babysitting a friend's toddler who ate his dinner and watched "Finding Nemo" while sitting in his rocker. It's so much more versatile than a regular bouncer. We started using this in the full recline position to keep my infant calm while I changed bedsheets or made dinner. He loved looking at the zebra pattern on the toy bar then and the vibration was enough to soothe him. We could always change it to a rocker and have my older son rock it back and forth with his foot. As the baby got older, he became interested in the toys moving and he preferred rocking to the vibration; I can put this next to the computer and rock him with my foot while I work. Now he's almost 5 months and he can reach out and grab the toys on the bar but doesn't pull on them yet. My only suggestions to Fisher Price for improvement would be to eliminate the velcro loops and replace them with solid fabric loops, then put the hanging toys on their Linkadoos plastic links. And if they could figure out some way to get this thing to rock itself!
Overall, it's a great purchase for the price and usefulness. Buy a few more toys you can hang from the bar so you can rotate to keep the baby's interest high. And you'll find that this is small enough to fit in most bathrooms so you can put your baby in it while you take a quick shower (if your baby, like mine, hardly ever naps!). This is also great for taking pictures of the baby in all those cute outfits you'll want to remember. I'd recommend every family with a new baby get one of these...
Customer Review: BEST seat in the house Summary: 5 Stars
I cannot stop raving about this seat!
I tried regular bouncers for my little girl (currently 3 months old), but there were too many problems. The straps holding her in were all the way at the sides and couldn't be tightened enough, so she'd just slide down one way or the other. The angle was too great for such a little girl, so she'd end up halfway down the seat within seconds. She didn't like the bouncing motion-- only the vibrations, and many just didn't have anything to catch her attention.
This is _so_ much better! It reclines far enough that she doesn't slide at all. It clips together right by her sides, so I know she's not going to slip out. It has the vibration that puts her to sleep when she's being fussy, and she loves the few occassions when Mommy or Daddy will rock her. And best of all-- hanging toys! She'll just stare at them sometimes, but now she's doing a lot of kicking, batting, and grabbing at them. Oh, and she always smiles when the monkey 'sings' to her. And when she gets bored with one of them, I can just unhook it and put something new and interesting in its place. Her big brother loves playing with her in this, too. (He's even tried to claim the spinning ball for himself.)
My favorite thing about this toy is that she will be able to get use out of it for years as a rocking chair. It does suck batteries, but that small extra expense is worth it for all the plusses. Oh, and it costs the same or less than a lot of those boring old bouncers that you can't use after less than a year. A MUST HAVE.
Customer Review: A must have!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Our now 8 week old son has been using this bouncy since we brought him home from the hospital. It puts him to sleep every time he is in it and not being entertained or read to. There have been nights in which he sleeps all night in it because it is the only thing that will calm him... BOY, WHAT A LIFESAVER!!! It is the one piece of baby gear that we take on trips to Grandma's house. I read some of the other reviews and agree that the toy bar is kind of far away as he can only reach the purple animal right now, but he hasn't really gotten to the point of wanting to swat at objects. I have moved the seat up to the next level and that puts him a little closer to the toy bar, but he still doesn't seem interested in touching the toys, yet. I agree that they can be pulled off easily, but are fine if they are just swatted at. The material really isn't soft and there isn't much padding, but I put a blanket down in there and he doesn't seem to be uncomfortable, of course this prohibits using the seatbelt in it. We have not had to use the seatbelt, yet, as he lies still except for kicking his feet, etc... I did have a frend over who had another bouncy and the baby, who is 9 weeks old, preferred this one and the Mom was going to go out and purchse this one. Overall, I give it 5 stars as we have had no problem so far and I like the versatility of the rocker and that it can be used up to 40 pounds. It has been a lifesaver on many nights for us. It only takes 1 D battery, which is another bonus!
Customer Review: can't live without Summary: 5 Stars
my husband and i bought this one when my son turned 3 months old. it was a choice between a swing, a bouncer and this one, a rocker. we had a difficult time picking out which one would best fit our son. we wanted something that he wouldn't outgrow and is worthy of its price. and we end up with this...which we had no regrets at all. it's very easy to assemble. very light and easy to carry around the house with my son at hand. has 2 reclining position which helped position my 3-1/2 month son, who couldn't even sit up well. the seat belts put my son securely in place even when i leave him by himself, just don't forget to pull up the bar below to restrain the chair from rocking. the toy bar is great. it's soft and cushiony. has a color that stimulates the visual development of a baby. it holds 3 different hanging toys. best of all, my son just loved pulling the monkey to hear it's music the moment he turned 4-1/2 months. the monkey became his favorite companion even when we were out. my son lounges on his rocker while watching tv, mouthing his toes and fingers, eating, waiting for mom to get free from urgent household chores (which doesn't take long actually), and most of the time for afternoon naps. my son is now 6 months old and he still loves his rocker. we got a full-sized swing recently and he wasn't as enthusiastic to ride it as he was with his rocker. so we end up returning the swing and settle for the ever lovable rocker instead.
Customer Review: Great all around! Summary: 5 Stars
I got this as a shower gift. We used it immediately when my son came home, as a cradle. It was nice to have him by us all the time when napping. He was so cozy in the cradle. When he was a little older, we used it as a seat. He would sit in it when I cooked, cleaned and took showers. Sometimes he would like the bar on, and sometimes he wanted to look around - it's nice that the bar is removable. You can also add your own toys to the velcro straps for variety. When he was learning to sit we put it away because he did not want to be restrained. He is now 11 months, and we have brought it back out. He likes to rock it himself. I do not strap him in, because he is to old for that feature - of course he could flip it over. Now, if he wants out, he just climbs out. As for other reviews stating that it should DO MORE?? It's not a substitue for parenting. It is just a place to put your child down so you can have two hands for a few minutes. If you want an item that rocks itself, buy a swing. This was very inexpensive and worth every penny. Use your better judgement when assesing your child and this item, it may not be good for everystage. Is there any child items out there that you can buy and your child will love it from birth to age 5? I don't think so. This one so far has lasted longer than any of his other things.
I love it, and after reading all of the reviews, and using the product myself, still rate it 5 stars.
