Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Infant-To-Toddler Rocker in Blue/RedCustomer Review: Absolutely Fabulous! Summary: 5 Stars
We got this seat when my daughter was born (well, this is a slightly different model because ours is almost 2 years old, but it is basically the same). It has been in constant use. My daughter loved it when she was a baby, the vibrations would soothe her and she liked to look at the toys. Some people have mentioned that their kids tipped the seat over, but that can happen with any rocking chair and that is why you watch your kids. I didn't have a problem with that though. She would sometimes try to lean forward off the seat to try to examine the vibrating part and play with the switch, but she never fell. The strap kept her from leaning forward too much and I would also intervene. It was real handy when I needed a shower, too. I could just stick it in the bathroom and know she was secure and she had the toys to entertain her. Now that she's about to turn 2, she still loves it. The strap part tucked through the back out of the way and she likes to turn on the vibrator and climb in to relax. The cloth removes easily for tossing in the wash and comes out looking great, which is important when you are dealing with leaky diapers and spit up (or sticky toddler hands). I've got another baby on the way now and want to be able to use this again, but I might have to just buy another one because I don't know if my toddler will give hers up! The only thing I wish were different about it is that I wish the back had more than 2 recline positions. The highest position still has my toddler leaning back a lot.
Customer Review: An all-around nice product Summary: 5 Stars
Like another reviewer, I have last year's model, so I can't really comment on the toys which come with this one.
However, this product literally saved my sanity during the first four or five months of my son's life. It was the only place he would tolerate being put down for even a few minutes. Sometimes the vibrations would help him doze off, giving me a chance to catch a nap without having to sit upright holding him. I also took the chair into the bathroom when I needed to shower. It was nice having a safe place to stow him where we could make eye contact.
I was so pleased with this product that I purchased one for my sister-in-law, who began taking it wherever she went. "I can actually put my baby down for five minutes and he'll entertain himself," she told me.
Although the toys on this model are different than the ones on mine, it may be possible to remove them and swap them out with others for variety. It was fun watching my son's development as he began to use the toys, first merely staring at them, then swatting and grabbing at them.
As my son got older, learned to sit up, and got ambulatory, we had to retire the chair so he wouldn't tip it over on himself. We're now awaiting the time when his legs will be long enough to safely use it as a toddler rocking chair. Considering all the other infant toys and devices we bought that are no longer usable, being able to use this chair again at all makes it a relative bargain.
Customer Review: Watch your little one carefully... Summary: 3 Stars
This seat was great for our daughter through about her 6-7 month. We used it almost every night in the kitchen while preparing dinner. A few weeks ago, we were in the kitchen like usual, and she leaned forward to pick something off the floor and the chair tipped over on her, with her forehead taking the brunt of the fall (she got a big gooseegg, but is fine.) I was right there and it still happened so quickly. I thought that maybe it was a freak thing so just buckled her restraint even tighter and we continued to use the chair. Then yesterday my husband was out washing our car and she was sitting in her seat in the carport watching him. She leaned forward and it flipped again, this time on concrete. She bruised her nose, cut her lip and again another goosegg on her forehead (other than that, she is ok...I'm more shook up at this point than she is.) Needless to say, we will not use this chair again for awhile. I did call Fisher Price and they offered to reimburse me and also pay for the shipping to return the chair. I chose not to since I think it will be a good chair for her when she is old enough to crawl in and out of it herself (she is only 9 months old right now.) So, moral of my story is: if your child likes to lean forward to look at the floor or to pick something up...beware that it will flip over on top of them. I do have to say though, until this issue it has been a lifesaver chair...and I hope that it will be again someday.
Customer Review: Not really worth it... Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this product before my baby was born. I thought that this would be the miracle that would calm my baby if she was crying. Honestly, I did not use it as much as I thought I would. I do not think that there was ever one time that the rocker calmed my baby down when she was crying. She definitely liked her swing A LOT more. I would say that her swing was a blessing, actually! (We have the Fisher-Price Aquarium Cradle Swing). It was the *only* thing that would calm her down. The only times I would use the rocker was when she was already asleep. If she was awake and alert, she would play in the rocker for only 10 minutes before she would get bored and start fussing. The toys are great, and I use them seperately and take them in my diaper bag when I go out. I can also attach them to her stroller because they are velcro, and she likes to look up at them. Having said that, she never used the toys in the actual rocker. By the time she was old enough to reach out and grab them, she had outgrown the product. There comes a time when a baby is trying to sit up, but can't quite do it (for my baby, that was at about 3 months of age) and that is when you have to discontinue using the product. I do not think this is a bad product (I have had a great experience with Fisher Price), but I don't think rockers are a neceissity overall. If you are looking into this product, I would highly suggest that you purchase a swing over a rocker.
Customer Review: so far, so good Summary: 4 Stars
Let me start by saying that if you don't buy this particular chair, I highly recommend something like it. My daughter is only 4 weeks old and I have alreay used this a ton!
She seems to really like the vibrate setting. It calms her right down. Since she's had a cold, I've been having her take naps in the chair because it elevates her head and the vibrations help keep her asleep. When she's awake, she enjoys looking at the toys and being rocked gently.
It's a great place to leave her, entertained, for a few moments while I do other things around the house.
OK, now for the criticisms. The toys seem pretty cheesy, and due to a poor design, the cow toy actually faces away from the baby. The music that the cow plays is really irritating. It seems that an older child would not have too much trouble pulling down the toys, two of which are hard plastic. That said, none of the other similar chairs I looked at had better toys and with a little ingenuity, you could probably hang your own toys from the toybar.
On the plus side, this chair seems to be well made and is designed to be used much longer than most of the other bouncers. It seems sturdy, and until my daughter is able to rock it on her own, I'm not worried about her falling out of it. Because it can be used into the toddler years, I recommend this chair over others I looked at in the same price range.
