Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Healthy Care Deluxe Booster Seat, Blue/Green/GrayCustomer Review: *Perfect* for dining out with baby! Summary: 5 Stars
I can't praise this product enough. It makes eating out with our 9 month old SO much more enjoyable! I try not to be overly concerned with germs, etc....but after a few experiences using the highchairs in restaurants, I was quickly searching for a better alternative. My daughter insisted on chewing/sucking on the trays and tables in restaurants. I took one swipe of the side of the table with a wipe, and ICK! It was practically black with grime. Again, I don't consider myself a germophobe, but that was just revolting. And the "stick on" mats I tried didn't really stay in place. (Not to mention the fact that the mats don't solve the problem of her sucking on the chair itself!)
I have also tried those fabric seat covers. They are very nice for shopping carts, but not so great for dining out b/c : 1) they cover only the seat, not the eating surface, and 2) they get dirty and aren't easily cleaned after each use. (The softness is nice though, as well as the attached toys. You can attach toys to the "seatbelts" of the booster too, however.)
Unlike the alteratives, this booster seat is WONDERFUL. It is very easy to attach to all sizes of chairs (one strap clicks under the chair, and another behind the chairback. the straps quickly and easily lengthen as needed). My daughter can sit comfortably, and I don't need to constantly be hovering over her while we dine out. She enjoys playing with her toys in the chair, and she can spread out her food on her own tray...no icky residue from other babies!
Another very nice feature is the cover for the tray. No matter how messy she gets, I don't have to worry about cleaning the tray before we leave a restaurant. You just snap on the lid, and take it home to clean. Very convenient.
I enjoy taking her out so much more now. Not only is it cleaner, it is more convenient to have her right at the table with us in a regular chair. (Servers don't have to navigate around a highchair.) I strongly recommend this! It is one of my favorite buys for my baby.
Customer Review: An amazing chair! Summary: 5 Stars
My daughter is a little over two years old and used to have a big aquarium highchair. Well after her brother was born (she was 13 months at the time!) we knew we couldnt have two of them.
This chair is great for my son, we gave our daughter another "big girl" chair and its amazing. We have chairs with fabric bottoms but a straight back, and we use the one with handles. It fits so easily and safley because it has straps for underneath the actually dinning room chair, and to attatch around the back of the dinning room chair. The seat has 3 trays, a top green one, a see through insert, and the real tray. We couldnt find out what the top one was for (sort of a cover?) so we just decided to store that away. We liked the idea of an insert, and its cool. It works like a plate for messy foods like spagetti, but we really find it easy to just put the big tray in the sink, or wipe it up, so thats been getting minimal use. The chair adjusts to three hieghts so your baby can have their tray on the table and be a part of the family dinner, this is great and my son is always so happy! The chair can convert to a booster without the tray, or also without the back of the chair, although its a little narrow so I dont know if we will use it like that (although my son is quite scrawny). Theres a lap belt, this is nice to keep him in place and I feel that its sufficent, the tray is placed in such a way that I see it nearly impossible for him to escape. The chair can also come right up to the table, another way to block his exit. The straps are on perminantly, but all I find nessasary is to wipe off crusted on food, no need to bleach them and all that. The chair is easy to fold and bring to restaurants or grandmas (has a carry strap) but we just bring it to grandmas, the floppy seat is good enough for the restaurant high chairs.
This seat is so amazingly easy to use, I cant find anything wrong with it. Its easy to wipe down and theres no cracks for food either. I love this chair and it really saves space too!
Customer Review: Wonderful Alternative with One Exception Summary: 4 Stars
We love love love our Healthy Care Booster Seat.
++ We use it at home at our only dining table which is wonderful since we have a small place. No extra chair needed for the little one and once the seat back is down we can push the chair under the table like any other chair.
++ The blue tray is small enough to wash in the sink (as opposed to those massive highchair trays) and everything wipes down very very easily.
++ It feels very safe once you secure the seat to the chair, buckle the baby in and click on the tray. There's no way a baby houdini can wiggle out of this chair.
++ Also it's easy to collapse and go to a friend's house which we've done many many times. The lime tray cover keeps everything clean. We can even fit her flexible plastic bib in the empty space between the seat and the tray. The handle is handy for carrying too.
++ The smaller size seems better suited for a baby than some of those gigantic highchairs. I have a friend with a Peg Perego highchair and her poor baby is dwarfed in the thing. The tray is practically at her baby's neck height, so her baby has to look forward (not down) to grab her food. Also, since the tray is high, her baby keeps her hands in her lap which makes for extra messes on her clothes. This booster fits so nicely on a baby and makes self-feeding much more natural.
I only have one issue with this booster seat...
-- I can't use the white tray that so many others have raved about. The white tray is attached at the point nearest to the baby's belly, and my dumpling grabs the far part of the tray and pulls it up and snaps it off the blue tray. Cheerios go flying into her lap and other places. But this is a relatively minor issue because washing the blue tray is just as easy. Now I only use the white tray for travelling because it is required to use the lime cover.
I'd recommend this booster over a highchair... unless you want to wheel your baby around.
Customer Review: Great Booster Seat! Summary: 5 Stars
This booster seat worked so well for my first daughter since she was a year old, that when my second daughter was born 3 months later, I knew I would use this for her as well. I donated my large and expensive Graco high chair before my second baby was born because it was so cumbersome and we didn't have a lot of extra room for it.
The Fisher Price Healthy Care Booster Seat is great because you can use it with the tray inserts, and as soon as they are done eating, clean them right up and they're ready to go for the next meal. We actually have them face each other when they eat which works perfectly since they are in the same booster seats with the same heights. Or, you can also use it without the tray, and let them sit at the table with the parents and truly have dinner together. There are 3 height adjustments, so it's pretty versatile in terms of fitting different tables.
Also, last month we took our two girls (now 25 and 10 months)out to dinner and we folded up the booster seats and brought them with us (along with their plastic forks, spoons & cups). They worked great and we didn't have to worry about them sitting on a germ-ridden booster seat or eating off of a dirty table or tray.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone, along with the advice, "you don't need a high chair!". I know parents, especially new parents with a baby on the way, would find this advice hard to believe, but it's true. You will see that about 1/3 of the items you've been conditioned to believe are "essentials" like I did, you won't even use because you won't need it or your baby will not want to use it. Even if you don't choose this particular one (which I would suggest), there are other booster seats that have padding and recline--all of the same features of more expensive high chairs that take up less space and allow your child(ren) to eat at the table and partake in the meal with the rest of the family. I hope this helps!
Customer Review: I love this chair! Summary: 5 Stars
I have twins so I need two booster chairs. This is the second brand that I tried. The first kind I tried is The First Years Swing Tray Portable Booster. I'm very glad that I tested it before buying two because I disliked it enough not to buy another. I'm happy to have found this one.
Here is what I like about this chair. These are all things that I do not like about the other chair.
It came fully assembled.
The straps are easy to remove when they need to be washed.
It's one piece so no food gets caught in cracks and it's easier to clean.
My boys haven't figured out how to remove the blue tray by themselves yet.
It doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart and the back of the seat can't be removed easily by your child. (I am always picking up the back to the other chair off of the floor).
It folds up compact and is easy to travel with and store.
The removable white tray is great and takes up less space in the dishwasher. I also love the cover for it if you can't clean it right away.
You can adjust the chair height to the table height.
Here are the only problems, but they are not a big deal to me.
I can see is that it may be too small for bigger children because you can't adjust the height of the actual seat to give more room under the tray. That is the only good feature about the other chair. This is not a problem for me because you can adjust how close the tray is to your child, and when they get older and can eat at the table you don't need the tray anyway.
The white tray comes off easily, so when my boys got a little older I couldn't use it any more because they kept taking it off.
We don't have high chairs, we use the boosters and it works out great. I just wish that I had bought this chair first so I didn't waste my money on the other,
