Baby Products Reviews of Fisher Price Cradle n Swing, My Little LambCustomer Review: Not very durable Summary: 2 Stars
We selected this swing in a large part due to the very high rating on amazon, but our experience has been less than stellar. Our baby loves this swing, when it works. The trouble is that the motor assembly isn't very durable, so it doesn't work as often as we'd like. After about the first 2 or 3 weeks of use we started noticing that the motor was struggling and would often stop altogether. We contacted Fisher Price and they promptly sent us a new motor, but it works worse than the original (as-in, not at all). We're getting by with this swing, but I doubt it will last much longer, which is a shame because it's the best sleep our baby gets. I absolutely recommend getting a swing for your baby, just not this one.
Positive comments:
- When it works, the baby loves it and naps much better than without.
- The seat liner is very soft.
- The mobile can turn on without the swing, buying you time to strap the baby in.
- It's nice to be able to rotate the swing to face different directions.
Less serious gripes about the swing:
- The seat leans slightly, so until our baby could hold his head up he often slept slumped over. This may also be the reason the motors don't do well, but this is a factory-assembled part, so I expect that it was put together correctly.
- It really should plug in. Rechargeable batteries don't have enough juice to power it, so we go through tons of batteries.
- It has 8 songs, but you'll only really hear the first couple because they always play in the same order.
- The activity bar is so hard to put on and take off that we never use it.
Customer Review: Heaven sent! Summary: 4 Stars
We got a traditional swing and tried to use it when my daughter was born. However, due to the angle of the seat, my daughter's pediatrician recommended we find a swing that could lay flat to support her neck. The tray is removable so we were able to swaddle our daughter (in my other life saver by Swaddle Designs) and place her in this swing to rock to sleep as if she was in the newborn napper that came with our pack & play. Since she was swaddled we found it built in a way that it was safe not to have to strap her in. My daughter is now 6 months old and we still enjoy the swing for her day naps. We never really used it in the upright position with the tray. It has always been a napper. She is just now starting to notice the mobile and mirror on top. When she wakes up she will stare up at herself and bat at the stars and lambs.
One other thing I liked was the angles you could place the swing. Left (front to back), Right (front to back) or Forward (side to side). That was especially nice when you were trying to keep the sun out of her eyes. I started used the side to side motion for a while and found she did better with the front to back motion.
My biggest criticism is the battery. I ran through D's a lot in the beginning as we would run it every day for hours on end. My friend has one of the newer models with the butterflies and it now comes with a plug. That would have been nice. If it's available on the new models of this swing I'd give it 5 stars.
My only other criticism is the legs. You need a lot of space to spread them out.
Customer Review: Easy setup, nice operation, great value! Summary: 4 Stars
My wife and I purchased this swing after reading several reviews. We also compared swings in-person at brick-and-mortar stores like Buy-Buy-Baby and Babies 'R Us before purchasing this one. The "My Little Lamb" swing is a really nice looking and great feeling swing that operates well. The swing is extremely easy to setup (according to directions) for anyone who even knows what a screwdriver is; and they include the proper size allen-key wrench in the package!
Pros include: high-quality fit/finish (moreso than even other Fisher-Price models), great price-to-value ratio, soooooo cute for a boy or girl to use, relatively quiet operation (some mild startup noise as the motor and cam get the carrier swinging, but not very noticeable once in-motion), light weight and easy to move, efficient and long-lasting 4x D-cell battery operation, and overall happiness effect on children!
Cons (very few) include: relatively similar swing speeds ('slowest' setting is not really slow, it's sorta fast; 'fastest' setting is not super fast, it seems very similar to the 'slowest' setting! Although don't worry: your kid will not go flying out!), and no AC-adapter.
All-in-all, you will LOVE this swing for your child. Makes eating dinner an easier affair for both parents (or any task where you need to set the child down for a short bit and still want to observe/watch them). For the price it can't be beat. Spend a couple extra bucks compared to the cheaper swings, and let the good times roll (or swing) for your child!
Customer Review: Works like a miracle! Summary: 5 Stars
In the beginning, my baby boy did not seem to like the swing very much, but after a week or so, he quickly got into a routine where he would be able to fall asleep and stay asleep in the swing very comfortably. He's now so comfortable in the swing that I don't even use the 'swinging' feature any more! I actually have some doubts about having my boy in the 'swinging' feature a little too long, eerily thinking that somehow, this excessive swinging my scramble his brain development and cause him to be dizzy the rest of his life. But I'm just paranoid like that.
There are some huge cons to this swing, however, and I must warn all of your potential moms/dads: as your child becomes more adapted to falling asleep and sleeping in this swing, it will become more difficult to have your child sleep in his/her crib or playard. There will of course be exception, especially if your child is already doing well sleeping in the crib/playard. Our child was never a good crib/playard/bassinet sleeper, so this only made things worst. We would try for extended periods of time trying to get him to sleep in the crib/playard, but he'd cry and whine forever. Then we'd put him in this swing and he would fall asleep the moment his head lands on the comfty lamb pillow!
This really wouldn't be a con had the swing not have a weight limit, but sooner or later, our boy is going to be unfit for this swing, and then we'll be in a world of pain trying to get him to sleep in something other than his favorite sleeping apparatus!
Customer Review: Lifesaver! Summary: 5 Stars
Oh how I wish I had bought this three months ago! My baby turns four months old in a week and we just got this swing three weeks ago and it's been amazing. He loves the side to side motion - it's the only thing that soothes him.
From the time he was 2 weeks old until 3 months my son screamed and screamed. Nothing soothed him. Sometime around 6 weeks we discovered he had a milk-protein allergy and acid-reflux - what luck for us (and him!). Up until that point I was exhausted and bought every single baby item for colic. Swings, bouncers, carriers, wraps, mobiles, gripe water, strollers, gas drops, formula changes, etc. and nothing helped and he hated EVERYTHING so I accumulated quite a bit of stuff.
As the weeks went on, I noticed Jack really liked to be swung from side to side while swaddled so even though I was late in the game I ordered him this swing.
HE LOVES THIS SWING! The other day he LITERALLY fell asleep the second his head hit the pillow as I laid him in the swing. He will take 2 hour naps in this thing and doesn't mind just chilling in it for a little bit when he wakes up from a nap (instead of instantly screaming). I wish wish wish we had bought this swing in the beginning. I tried to get away with a little collapsible/travel swing thing and it was slow swinging and boring and he was NOT interested in that thing in the least.
If you have a baby who is hard to soothe - do yourself a favor and get this swing!!!
