Baby Products Reviews of Fisher Price Cradle n Swing, My Little LambCustomer Review: No AC Adapter, but Runs Forever on D. Rather Loud. Summary: 3 Stars
I was looking through the Fisher Price Cradle n Swing products, and decided on the My Little Lamb "color." I didn't realize that it didn't come with an AC adapter or jack for one. Well, I guess that is my fault. It takes D batteries, and it seems to run forever on them. We have had it running for approximately eighteen hours a day for two weeks, and it is still running well.
The swing and the mobile are both very loud. The mechanics inside the device click and grind, and you can hear them from the other end of the house. I have to max out the music volume just to hear it over the machine. We don't even use the music often, because the swing is so noisy.
Our daughter is only six weeks old and weighs just under ten pounds. Even on the first speed setting, she weighs so little that the swing goes super fast. It looks like an amusement part ride, and she gets scared and cries. We put a blanket over her that reaches down and touches the flood. The added weight of this blanket and the floor contact help keep the swing at a comfortable speed. She'll enjoy the swing and the mobile, and she'll eventually fall asleep happy. She doesn't seem to mind the grinding sound, but we do.
This swing takes up quite a bit of floor space. This is for stability, but it is good to know that it is just over four feet wide and just over three feet deep, once it is set up. The legs collapse to allow you to move it around. That is a real nice feature, because we move it to the living room and the bedroom every day. The swing isn't too heavy; My wife moves it without complaint.
Overall, I say it is average. The swing's footprint can't be helped, because it is for safety. The loud mechanics need to be improved, and a jack for an AC adapter needs to be wired in. The style is nice, the controls are easy, blah blah blah. If it had those two improvements: mechanics and power, it would be an easy five stars. As it stands, I give it three out of five for being useful but average.
Customer Review: I L-O-V-E this Swing!!! Summary: 4 Stars
Ok, to start...the photos of the item above...this swing DOES NOT light up. I don't know what the photo with the lights is all about, not even the same swing in that pic.
That being said... This swing is a huge life saver for my newborn boy (3 weeks old). When all else fails, the swing calms him down and he sleeps much longer in it than the crib. He is just transitioning now into the crib, but the first week or two he wanted to only sleep in the swing or slightly propped up. This swing is not as deep as a car seat so his little head doesn't fall down.
The good...
1. I've had the swing running for 3 weeks, mostly at night for hours at a time and the batteries are still good.
2. It's soft & cute and baby is cozy. Good for sleeping.
3. Not too powerful of a swing, but can make it swing faster if needed.
4. has forward & sideways swinging. My baby doesn't like the sideways right now so I have him in forward motion.
5. Songs & noises are simple with volume control, though he is too young to really care about them right now, I'm sure he'll like them when he gets older.
6. Tray is removable.
the not so good... (why I didn't give a 5 star rating)
1. Makes a noisy clicking and motor sound to get swinging started. It helps if you give the swing a push to help it get going. It still clicks a little when swinging, but not too noisy, kinda like a clock ticking.
2. the legs don't seem too sturdy, you have to fight to get them in a position so they don't lift off the floor or move while swing is in motion. But once in place, it is sturdy so not a big issue.
3. Not very portable. Big & awkward, but most full swings are.
All around I would highly recommend this swing and wouldn't trade it for any other. I'm gonna try a portable one for the bedroom & travel, but I probably won't be as happy with it as this one.
Customer Review: wonderful sleep aid Summary: 4 Stars
This is a wonderful swing. We got it as a shower gift and have used it since we brought our DD home from the hospital. I love that it is very cute and isn't an eyesore in our home. I was afraid that the light colored seat would look dirty quickly. We have used it every day for 7 weeks and it doesn't look a bit dirty. The pad easily removes for cleaning and is machine washable. My DD already had an accident and the mess came out easily.
We use this every night as a sleep aid (according to the Happiest Baby on the Block) and it really works. She sleeps much longer with the movement and if she doesn't want to swing forwards and backwards, which she often doesn't, then you can rotate the swing for her to go side to side. This way she can almost always be soothed. When my DD goes to bed she generally is wide awake. The mobile keeps her occupied until she falls asleep. There are also music and sounds. The music is not annoying except for one of the loops. It is not a continuous loop and you can tell where it restarts. The mobile and the music have an auto shut off. You don't have an option to keep it on longer but there is a restart button to easily start the mobile and sound. Unfortunately the swing does not have an auto shut off. We had to replace 4 D batteries in less than 2 weeks, probably because we keep in on for 8 hours every night. Really wish it had an auto shut off.
The swing sounded noisy before we put baby in it, as some of the reviews have mentioned. When DD came home and we put her in the swing and turned it on, the motor was much quieter. When we put a heavier blanket over her in the swing we noticed the motor was loud again. It seems very sensitive to balance. If it isn't balanced the motor will also make a clicking noise. It's a bit annoying but worth her sleeping. I would still recommend this despite the noise.
Customer Review: I wish I had the money for a more expensive swing... Summary: 3 Stars
but I don't. Mostly because all this baby stuff has such a short shelf life, literally. And it all goes by so fast and is made of stuff that just won't look so great in the house for the long term. But 100$ flat is a decent price for a Fisher Price swing. With my first child we had the FP Aquarium Wonders swing. That model is currently 200$ and I didnt see what the 100$ difference could be. I also wanted to try something different. The swing is everything it says it is. One feature I miss that was useful was an adjustable seat so the infant can be in a semi-upright/sitting position as well as a reclined position. This swing is only one reclined setting. The mobile is also positioned at an awkward angle to the cradle. My 2 month old hasnt noticed it yet. The swing speed is good for my 13 pounder so far. The animals are lightly colored, unisex styling. I mostly cannot stand the sounds emitted by most plastic kid junk but this is tolerable. There's a setting with crickets and it can get downright ambient in here! We don't use the "lullaby music" setting but it's canned classical (Beethoven or Bach? someone out there will know) with little birds tweeting. We don't use it. I've already put it through the wash and it cleaned beautifully in standard washer and dryer. I put it together myself in about 25 minutes and that includes having a 4 year old "help." It takes 4 D batteries. Three stars because nothing mass market gets a 5 and also because it's packaged cheaply, takes up a lot of space. Even though it's supposedly portable, it's still an unwieldy big metal and plastic object that doesnt easily fit into a standard closet. Ours even had warehouse grime on the actual parts that I cleaned before assembly. But does it get the job done? Yes. Baby settles right in, sleeps soundly, the battery life seems to be pretty good and it's neutral colored.
Customer Review: Absolutely Amazing Summary: 5 Stars
I have used this product (in the nature's touch design) for all three of my children. I had three children in 2 1/2 years and this swing was a total life saver.
The front to back or side to side swinging options are wonderful. Some of my children liked swinging both ways while others only liked to swing one direction. That's what's so great about it, it changes for your different needs.
The music and sound features are great, ranging anywhere from water sounds to bird sounds, to music. And the mobile for the baby to look at is great. It does not automatically come on with the sounds and music but has a separate switch so it can be ran by itself or right along with the music and sounds. I loved the versatility.
This swing is built well and is very sturdy. Sometimes my toddler would try to climb into the swing and it always held up. We have owned ours for 4 1/2 years and it is still going strong.
Another great feature is that the legs fold in. We would sometimes take it with us in our vehicle for holidays or days where we were going to be gone all day or multiple days because it was the only way we could get our one daughter to nap without being in her crib.
The only drawback I can see about this swing is that it uses a few C batteries and does not have an option to plug it in to the wall. We probably had to change the batteries a couple times a month, which was not too bad, but it would have been nice to have had the option to plug it in.
Overall a really great product. My husband and I have both said if we have more children and the swing ever stops working...we're definitely buying another one :)
