Baby Products Reviews of Evenflo Whisper Connect 900Mhz 2-Way Nursery MonitorCustomer Review: So far, so good Summary: 4 Stars
So far we have not encountered any problems with this product. Our daughter sleeps next to us at night so we really only use it for nap times.
PROS:The sound quality is good and there are multiple lights to let you know if the sounds being made are just sleeping sounds or the baby waking up. We haven't had to use the two-way feature yet since our daughter is only 3 months old but I think it will come in handy once she gets a little older. Our batteries have lasted alright so far, but as I said, we only use it for short periods at a time. But both units can be plugged into the wall so battery costs don't get out of control. Another great feature is that the monitoring unit starts to beep when the base unit has been unplugged from the wall.(this will come in handy with older children).
CONS: There is quite a loud feedback when the two units are by each other so I usually have to turn off my monitor when I walk past my daughter's room so that they don't interfere with each other. When the battery starts to run out the monitoring unit starts to make a sound of a train blast which is quite startling. The base unit has to be plugged in, which is sometimes difficult to find an available outlet by where the baby is asleep, but so far we have managed since it has a pretty long cord.
Customer Review: Save your money on something that works Summary: 1 Stars
I always read these reviews when purchasing a product and have never actually written one before. However, I thought I would share my expereince before someone else makes the same mistake. We needed a second monitor and had no problems with our first Sony babyCall so I did a quick product research and purchased the evenflo Whisper Connect. Unlike the Sony it only has two channels, which does cause interference. However, the worst feature is the battery; either we recieved a defective battery or this is the worst rechargeable battery ever. It starts to die when removed from the charger within a couple of hours. In addition, for some reason I have not identified the monitor will be working fine and then all the sudden it sounds like a plane engine was placed next to the microphone. You need to turn it off and back on until the engine noise is gone. I ended up taking the Sony monitor from my son's room as he is now older and using this as a backup for him when needed. I should have stuck with what I knew worked. I have disliked this monitor from the first day, but had thrown away the receipt and could not return. If you do not mind having it connected to a power source at all times, the sound of plane engines, and have little interference in your neighborhood you can consider this an option.
Customer Review: Love it! It's great for younger AND older children! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm using this monitor so that I can hear what's going on with my 2 1/2 and 5 1/2 year old girls while I'm outside helping to build our house. I was concerned that it wouldn't work well with that much distance, but it's been great, with no static and I can hear everything that's going on. The 2-way feature is really handy to clear up minor disputes and appease kids that want me to come in for things that they can wait for. I'm not sure if the 2-way feature is as necessary with babies. This is what the [...] Hands-On Review says about that: "The two-way walkie-talkie feature allows parents to talk to their fussy children if they can't get to them immediately. Sometimes this connection is all baby needs to get back to sleep!" So we will see about that, because I will be having another baby this fall. We haven't had a need for a baby monitor with the first two because our current place is too small and we can hear everything from any room. But the house that we are in the process of building will be quite large and I will definitely need one for this coming baby, and I believe it will also continue to come in handy with the older children as well. This monitor will surely get a lot of use from this family in the coming years!
Customer Review: 3 years on, keeps on working Summary: 5 Stars
We bought these monitors after a lot of reading reviews, and we've been so happy. Our son is 3 years old and these baby monitors work very well. The sound quality is very good. We can hear the smallest sniffle or rustle of sheets when the volume is up. They've been on pretty much constantly for 3 solid years and we've never had to replace a battery. We do keep them plugged in almost all the time so I can't really vouch for the battery life of them when unplugged for long periods, but they certainly do warn you when the battery gets low by buzzing. They beep when they are out of range. Sometimes they are a bit flaky when we travel. If both units have been unplugged for some time, even turned off while we're in the car, when plugged back in they get a bit weird. They don't work immediately on being plugged back in so plan accordingly when you arrived at your destination. Plug them in first and wait a while. It'll beep at first but then start working. I wish more electronics worked this well and this long. I would definitely buy them again, but at the rate we're going they're going to last forever and we won't have to replace.
Customer Review: Best we've had... Summary: 4 Stars
This is our third baby monitor. The first two had static if you would plug anything into the same outlet or get them near other electronic devices. This one has worked flawlessly in our home w/ zero static. The talkback feature is also wonderful for a three year old ("Go back to sleep," "I'll get you juice in the morning," etc.) Not having to get up and go to the child's room is a real feature.
The only reason I gave it four stars is because it only has two channels and because the signals aren't encrypted. Anyone else with an FM receiver can pick up your conversations, but most monitors are this way. We took the monitor to a friend's house and it picked up a lot of static/interference from something in the house (Video monitor, TV, I don't know.) Since it only had two channels, we were not able to find a clear channel.
Overall thoughts: Best monitor I've had (Stay away from the Fisherprice models). I would buy again unless I was in an apartment complex (I wouldn't want other people listening in), and I would be prepared to take it back if I needed more channels.
