Baby Products Reviews of Evenflo Top of Stair GateCustomer Review: Extreemly Pleased. Summary: 5 Stars
I am the mother of two babies age two and one. They both climb. I have a tension gate with the wonderful holes that they can stick their toes in and climb over and that leaves those wonderful marks on the drywall or doorframe. Since the older of the babies has learned to turn knobs, we found it neccesary to purchase an additional gate for the top of our stairs to the basement. I needed to be able to go up and down easily and not have the babies able to climb it. I purchased this gate, and in 20-30 minutes I had it up and useable. It has been in place for 8 months and they still can't open it or climb it, and I am able to take laundry up without having to set it down to opperate the locking mechanism. We have decided to purchase an additional gate to replace our tension gate in the bedroom. From our most recent experience with this model, we will purchase an identical gate. We have been extreemly pleased.
Customer Review: Awesome gate for child care! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought my first gate at Target - but they have discontinued it. I bought it 2 years ago for the top of my basement stairway leading down to my playroom. I stained it to match our woodwork - so it looks great. After 2 years of toddlers standing on the gate waiting for me to open it - a spindle has snapped. I picked up a new gate tonight to replace it. The great part is that this gate slips right out of it's hardware so I dont' have to replace the hardware - just stain and slip the new gate in! I have gone through so many gates as a child care provider and this one has been the best! Mounted gates are the best! Pressure mounted gates have never been child proof in my home! The latch is easy enough for me to open with baby in hand and my 5 year old children can open it themselves to they can go to the playroom with out me there to open the gate for them!

Customer Review: A good choice Summary: 4 Stars
We've been fighting with our pressure lock gate at the top of the stairs for about 2 years now. We finally decided to look for a replacement and this seemed like a good choice. Reading previous reviews gave us a good idea what we were getting into with installation. (Thanks everyone!) Armed with that knowledge, we were able to install the gate with little difficulty. The template is useless if you have molding, as predicted. To my mind, the wood doesn't seem as sturdy as I'd have liked. We have the gate essentially to prevent accidental falls, and it's good enough for that. It is not hard to open or close. Anyone getting fingers pinched isn't paying enough attention to what they're doing, imo. I can't say if I'd recommend it for a high traffic area, since that's not where ours is, and I don't know how it would stand up to normal toddler abuse. But as a safety net, this gate is a good choice.
Customer Review: Great gate for the money Summary: 4 Stars
The packaging on this product is terrible, the UPS man brought it to my door looking like it had been KICKED all the way from the warehouse. The box was mangled and torn, and sure enough, once I opened it, one of the slats was broken in two. Fortunately, thanks to Amazon.com's speedy response, I had a replacement in my hands two days later (the box was mangled on that one, too, but fortunately the gate was ok). The gate was easy to install and works great. We do have some wood molding that we had to install it above, but it is still low enough that our daughter can't get underneath. I like the look of the wood, we have an open staircase to the lower level with a wood bannister, a plastic gate would have been very tacky there. Overall, now that we've had it about a month, I'd say we are pleased with it and I am glad we didn't spend the extra money to get one of the more expensive gates.
Customer Review: This baby gate is fantastic at the top of stairs Summary: 5 Stars
First of all, this gate is very SECURE. I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old and neither of them, with all their climbing and shaking, can get this gate to budge. Next, it's so easy to take down! If you are having company over and want the gate gone for awhile, it just slides in and out of the clips you install in the wall. It is hard for strangers to open the first time, but I think that's mainly because our walls aren't straight and there's more tension than there would be in well-framed houses. That being said, it installs very well whether your walls are square or not. The latch is very easy for me to open with one hand and it only took a couple of tries to become adept at it. The only downside is that I've pinched my finger in the latch a few times, but it was no big deal. Overall, this gate is so sturdy and safe, I prefer it much more to the tension-mounted one I had before.
