This gate was a replacement for the crappy Swing 'N Lock. This gate is so easy to install. The only problem was we have baseboards and couldn't use the template. SO I simply measure 3 inches off the floor and then marked the holes to drill and folded the template to get the upper holes marked. We did however have a lot of wall damage due to the fact that this was installed on the metal corner protectors under the drywall and a lot of the joint compound fell off due to disturbing it. I will not fix it now since I'm sure I'll have more to fix later. I like this gate because it has two point of contact in the locked and closed position. Both rails the upper and lower fit about 1 1/2 inch into a metal seat. This makes it so secure. I don't agree w/ the other reviewers that said the lower rail pops out, I'm sure if it was installed WRONG. Just make sure to measure properly and make sure things are even, level and line up and there is NO way the rail is going to pop out! I did pinch myself a few times opening this the first few times. You have to slide the rail in a bit to swing it and there's a metal piece on the top rail that supports the two gates, ouch. Will remember not to do that!Customer Review: Great Gate for the Price

We use this gate for a 36" opening at the top of our stairs. The gate is sturdy, and opens easily with one hand.
Installing this gate alone seemed like it could get a bit tricky, especially if you want everything 90 degrees to the floor and level across the top. Fortunately my father-in-law helped me out.
We ended up mounting a 1"T x 4"W x 30"L piece of wood to both sides of the wall (these were mounted into studs) to guarantee that the mounting hardware would be screwed into wood (in case the mounting hardware screws missed the stud due to the 1-2" offset between the swinging and latching sides of the gate).
If installing this on a wall with molding, keep in mind that the bottom screw hole of the latch side hardware is the lowest screw mounting point . . . otherwise you will end up installing this screw through the molding like we had to. FYI, our molding is 2" high and we installed the gate 2" off the ground. If we had installed the gate 3" off the ground (maximum height recommended by the manufacturer) we probably would not have run into this problem.
For the price, I don't think there is a better permanent mount gate out there.

I just finished installing this gate all by myself. It was quick and easy ESPECIALLY when you use the enclosed template for the brackets. I don't know why so many people had to jerry-rig this thing--it was a piece of cake to install. The directions are a little vague but if you actually read them, it is easy. It is incredibly sturdy---I put it through its paces myself. I love that it slides out of the hinges when you want it out of the way--this gate has many more features than the box advertises. It swings open either way too. Also, if you leave this gate open for some reason it doesn't swing all over the place, it just stays where it is which to me is a nice little bonus. It is no problem to operate with one hand and given the cheap uneven construction of my military house, the top and bottom still align on the locking side when I want to close it. The template gives you all you need to do this installation right. After installing a Supergate V twice with 16 screws each time, in 1 doorway, only to have it be nearly impossible to open and close with me on my knees and two hands--I am thrilled by this gate and am ready to go back and buy two more.Customer Review: An absolute must have!

My husband first installed this gate when our oldest child was learning to crawl. After I watched him tumble down the stairs when he was just 6 months old, we decided we had to do something! But, I wanted a gate that I could open and close with just one hand. Because this gate is actually installed into the wall, I could do that without having to take a whole gate down every time I needed to go up or down the stairs. We found it so sturdy, relialbe and easy to use that we took it down and installed it into our new house when we moved a year later! Now, our 4th baby is starting to crawl, and I have all the confidence it this gate as the first day we used it! We have not had a single problem with it in 6 years and 4 children later. I have read another review where the consumer complained that it pulled out of the wall too easily, but I just do not understand that. I have had my children, 2 cats and several nieces and nephews climb all over this gate, and we have never had a single problem! We have way more than gotten our money's worth! As a matter of fact, I am now getting one for my mother to use for her 2 puppies!Customer Review: This gate has lasted 4+yrs with a daycare!

I have one of these gates inside my home at the top of the stairs next to the daycare playroom. I have another outside at the top of the stairs coming up to my front door. That one has been subjected to sun, rain, wind, snow, the works! Both of these gates have been used and abused several times every day for more than 4 years and they are still working like day one and they still look great too!
They are tough to get used to using, but it doesn't take long to get the hang of opening and closing them with one hand. If there's a time when you need the gate removed, that can be done with one hand too. I've never had a child be able to climb over the gate and it stands up well to all the times they've tried.
Another thing I like is the slats are far enough apart that my cats can walk through it, but kids can't get their head in there. Also it wipes down well to get sticky fingerprints off it.
If you need a sturdy permanent gate (not one of those moveable plastic ones) that will take a beating and last for years looking great, then this is the one for you!
