Baby Products Reviews of Evenflo Soft And Wide Gate Taupe & ChocolateCustomer Review: Flimsy and more of a Hassle than anything. Summary: 1 Stars
I do not advise getting this gate if you plan on putting it up and taking it down often. It's a hassle to secure in place, and most times it is pretty flimsy if you can't get it's "spring locks" to lock into place. It's also difficult to get a good grip on the smooth, teeny handles that you need to twist to lock/set it. And sometimes it's almost impossible to "unlock" it to take it down, and you just have to pull it out from the doorway.
Only really good for rolling/crawling children; Definitely AVOID this gate if your child is starting to pull up onto things, or is up walking around. It would probably give way if a child tried climbing, leaning, or pulling on it.
Not very good at all; definitely not worth the price. You could find something much better for around the same cost.
Customer Review: Very pleased overall Summary: 4 Stars
The gate wasn't quite as easy to use as I'd hoped, given the item information and the other reviews here. I found it difficult to match the tightness of the top bar with the bottom one, and as a result have unequal tension.
That said, I bought this to keep my little guy away from the fireplace (we haven't used it since he was born--I'm sure the mesh isn't heatproof!), and it's worked like a charm. We'll probably leave it up until he's about three, and while it's not wildly attractive, it blends in well enough that it's easy to forget the gate is there. And my son's forgotten about the interesting fake ashes in the hearth. It's a win-win situation. Keeps the cats out, too.
Not perfect, but definitely a good product, and I'm still very glad to have bought it.
Customer Review: Excellent wide gate Summary: 5 Stars
This has been a great gate for us. Although we don't have to go thru it all the time, it has been very helpful. Its short enough that we can step over it with a hand full of groceries. Yet our little one can't climb over it. Now that he is 17 months old (very active), he has been testing it out. But it has been holding up well. The greatest advantage is that it doesn't need a lot of work to put it up. Very simple and no tools!! and it covers a wide area (which we needed). I wouldn't recommend it necessarily for your main route of travel, but it helps to block off areas. I think it also helped that we put it up long before our little one (at 5 months)knew that he could walk through the area that it blocks. I encourage everyone to Babyproof way before you need to!!
Customer Review: Nice Gate, Works Well Summary: 5 Stars
We purchased this gate to keep our 23 month old in his room since he started getting out of bed and wandering into our room at night. It's sturdy and the pressure mounting tightens & loosens easily as needed. Our son's doorway is 60" because it's a double door, and this gate fits perfectly - I was a little worried it would be just a tad too short but it's not at all.
It is, however, meant for low traffic areas. I would not recommend this gate to someone who needs to go in and out of an area more than two or three times a day since you have to step over it. It's great for us since we only use it at night.
Only downside: we have a cat who likes to scratch at the mesh fabric on the gate, so we cover the gate with a sheet at night.
Customer Review: Pleasantly surprised Summary: 4 Stars
I needed a "baby gate" for my small dog that needed to (1) cover a large span and (2) be pressure-mounted (no hardware attachment). This was the only product I could find. I was leery of the fabric panel, thinking that it would not withstand insistent doggie toenails, but it has held up surprisingly well (over a month so far). Installation was straightforward, once you paid close attention to the details. Another pleasant surprise was the stiffness of the vertical supports, making the upper horizontal beam able to support a bit of weight beyond what I would trust to the friction pads. With the lower beam flush to the floor, and the vertical posts transferring weight, the friction pads are only needed to prevent lateral motion. It looks good, too.
