This really is a great gate--I disagree with the 1 star reviews. I bought this gate to keep our dogs contained on our deck and it is perfect. It is the only gate that is tall enough but not too tall, is pressure mounted, and is metal. Yes, there is a bar at the bottom, but the only solution to there being a bar is the ramp of the First Years Hands Free gate--and a foot pedal to release the door won't do me much good with two big dogs who jump a bit--they would figure it out! Also, the lock/release is a bit stiff, but I would rather it be a little difficult than too easy!
Over all, I do not feel that this product deserves the bad reviews. This is a good gate.

My husband and I bought this gate after my son figured out how to climb over our previous one. My son wont be able to climb over this one but even when he hangs on it, it is sturdily mounted and wont fall. Doesn't strip the paint off my door post like previous gates and because of it's design, allows for differences in wall depth due to baseboard. A little difficult to pull the latch at first, but becomes easier with use (i could master the one-handed pull after one month). I'm 5'4" and 5 months pregnant and most of the time I step over it to save myself the trouble of using the handle but this does get tiring. Older kids will probably have a difficult time with the latch.Customer Review: Easy and efficient

I researched a few different baby gates and this one was the one I decided to choose because of the price, other reviews, and its ability to extend for larger doorways. My wife and I use it for our dogs at the moment and neither one of them has knocked it down--very sturdy considering our big dog weighs over 50 lbs. I guess that it is high enough too b/c our cats don't even dare to jump it. You can easily open it with one hand and installation was a breeze. I'm glad it came with an extender b/c we can use it for our daughter in an oversized doorway when needed. The only downside, but something that is common amongst baby gates, is that it isn't extremely wide.Customer Review: Terrible instructions, good gate

The instructions are misleading -- they show a picture of the gate CLOSED before installation, and in reality, the gate only closes once the pressure knobs are fully tightened. DON'T return your gate when you see that it looks bent! Really confused me until I came on Amazon and realized that others had had the same problem as me.
The gate itself is a great value for a hinged gate. Similar prices to some non-hinged models and much cheaper than most hinged ones. I've practiced the latch a few times and it's getting easier. Make sure you leave the 1/8" in the latch as the instructions say. (It's one of the few places that the manual was correct!)

I just purchased this gate for my son to keep him away from my basement steps. First of all the gate was not that simple to install, I had to go online to watch the video. I dislike that the screws are not better constructed into the gate and the plastic that is used to extend them is not that strong, mine stripped under the presser. The latch is not easy to open you have to use two hands which defeats the purpose of the latch being one hand slide. I would suggest that you save your money and get a much better gate. I plan on returning mine and getting the one that I really wanted but didn't want to spend the extra money on, I will know better next time.
