Baby Products Reviews of Evenflo SimpleStep Pressure Gate TaupeCustomer Review: Awesome! Although, I would check your local stores for a better price! Summary: 5 Stars
I have 0 complaints about this gate! I purchased it from our local W*l-Mart for 34.97, and didn't have to wait for it to be shipped to me. I would suggest checking at your local store before waiting for it to be shipped. (Super-saver shipping takes forever) We use this gate to keep our Sheltie in the kitchen when she is eating, and to keep our 4 year old and our 13 month olds out of the kitchen. We love it! Perfect all around! Our 13 month old uses it to balance when watching me cook, and she shakes the door, hard, and it is just as sturdy as it could be! Opening it and closing it is very simple, and it has the "slam shut" feature, so you don't have to push the button and pull back the handle to shut it, that would be a pain. We will get many years of use out of this, considering it can keep our 4 year old out! It is just great!
Customer Review: The perfect dog gate (and probably baby gate, too) Summary: 5 Stars
Perfect solution to keeping our 8 week old puppy in the kitchen and still allowing air circulation (and her to look out).
Forewarned by reviewers that one needs to tighten the top bumpers to a 1/8" clearance between gate and stanchion, I was able to install two of the gates in about 10 minutes. The longest part may have been liberating the gates from their packaging.
Despite having small and not so powerful hands, I have no trouble at all with single-handed operation of the latch. And the installation does not interfere at all with closing the door, another plus.
Only one suggestion to the Evenflo folks: include one more tie in your packaging so that the gate cannot swing when all the other other packaging is removed (nit).
Excellent product, excellent price, easy installation.
Customer Review: Easy to install. Easy to use. Easy to pay for. Summary: 4 Stars
I installed two of these in about 5 minutes each. I'm not sure why people complain about the instructions. It clearly explains how the pressure bolts/knobs work, and that the top of the gate doesn't mate until the pressure bolts are extended against the door frame.
Also, the gate opens easily with one hand. If you can't open this gate with one hand, you need to eat your spinach, because you are one weak sailor. Or, perhaps those having a problem aren't doing it right. One needs to simply squeeze the buttons on both sides of the handle, and slide it away from the frame. And...Voila! (Pardon my French.)
The price is good too. Especially with the extension. (Other brands charge extra for that.) Need a gate for your baby or dog? (or baby dog?) You won't go wrong if you buy this one.
Customer Review: Very nice gate Summary: 4 Stars
I believe the other reviewer is mistaken. I too thought that the gate was bent at the top when we got one (two of them actually). Then I realized that the gate is manufactured like this on purpose. By having the top of the gate be wider than the bottom you can force the gate into the opening which keeps the top of the gate very snug in the doorway. I really like this feature. Since there is no top bar (when the gate is open) this also means the gate has no wobble when it's open. This and the version of the gate with the opener on the bottom (that you step on) are quick solid gates that I would recommend. I will, however, point out that the other review is right, the instructions do not make it clear that gate being "too wide" at the top is by design (and quite a good design I might add).
Customer Review: EASY TO INSTALL; GREAT FOR OUR DOG Summary: 5 Stars
We had been looking for a gate like this since we got our new puppy Tonka. I was pretty lucky to find it at my local thrift store brand new for $18...great price! It is easy to install and I don't understand how people think it's hard to install. We, too, thought that there was something missing from the pressure bolts that go on the side. Once you fit the gate in the doorway, you have to screw it to where it applies pressure to the wall. I can see where the confusion would be, but coming from someone who doesn't know a thing about handy work, it was pretty easy to figure out. It's the perfect size for our puppy (he's a Staffordshire Bull Terrier) and he won't be able to jump over it since he'll only get to about 16 inches tall. We highly recommend this gate and it seems very sturdy!
