Baby Products Reviews of Evenflo SimpleStep Pressure Gate TaupeCustomer Review: Pressure-Mounted, Walk-through Gate Summary: 4 Stars
The only reason I did not give this gate 5 stars was because it is not clear from the discriptions that it will not work in openings that are in the range slightly larger than 33.5 inches to almost 35 inches. We read about this before purchasing the gate, so we knew our doorway was a size this gate would work for. The price was very reasonable, and the gate was great for our needs. We live in an apartment, and mounting a gate with hardware is out of the question, so we really needed a sturdy, pressure-mounted gate I could walk through while holding the baby. I'm short, so stepping over gates is very difficult.
My husband and I had no trouble installing the gate, and it fits very snugly in the doorway. In fact, we have each bumped into it without disturbing it at all. The gate section that swings open works with one hand, but it is on the narrow side. I occasionally bump my hip into the side, but I am not a small girl (about size 14).
Overall, we are very satisfied with this gate, and we even plan to purchase another one in a couple months for another doorway.
Customer Review: Just purchased...Easy to install after a quick call to customer service Summary: 3 Stars
Just like the first reviewer, I thought there was a mistake in the manufacturing of this gate since there was a two inch gap from the swing door to the latch. I called the evenflo 800# and was quickly informed that the gap closes once the gate is installed correctly using the pressure mounted pins. Sure enough, once I tighted the pressured mounted pins, the gate door latched correctly. I do agree with the other reviewers that the swing door is diffucult to open with one hand...not sure if that will improve with practice. I haven't decided if I'm going to keep this gate or not. I didn't want to spend $70+ on a swing gate and this seemed to be a good economical option.
UPDATE: I untighten the pressure mounted pins on the top to make sure there was a gap between the gate and latch of 1/8" (per instructions) and this has made the gate easier to open. After practicing, I am able to open the gate with one hand. I would change my rating to 4 stars if I could since I think this is a great gate for the price and does everything I needed it to do! I have decided not to return the gate.
Customer Review: Good Product overall Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this gate for my dogs, in order to keep them separated while I am out. I read all the reviews first, and I was a bit concerned it would be hard to open and it may not be worth buying. The door may be a little uneasy to open, but this is the point, so whatever or whoever you do not want to open does not do it easily. You have to press the button and slide it a bit to open, and I never found much problem doing so (if you do, maybe while assembling, you did put too much pressure and make the door way too close to the gate)
My door is a little small, though, and the gate makes it even narrower. So, accidents bumping into the metal edges were frequent in the beggining (I guess this is more my fault than the product`s).
It is better (in my opinion) than the pedal (foot) one (i used it for a while), because it is set agains the wall, and the pressure keeps the door closed and adjusted. The pedal one always came out, because it doesnt have such system.
Dont know if it would be that great for baby's parents, but I love it for my pooches.
Customer Review: Best walk through gate but be careful Summary: 4 Stars
This gate works GREAT! It was a little tricky to install, adjusting the pressure mounts took a while to adjust as our doorway was on the outside of the 33.5 in. Once mounted, it has been extremely sturdy and is easy to open one handed if you do it right. The opening is a bit narrow (17 in.) but it's ease of use and durability make up for it. I would not use this gate to move around to different spots around the house but works great in a permanent location (without permanent holes in the wall!).
It puts up with constant shaking and rattling from my 9 month old and has even deterred my 2 1/2 year old nephew who has figured out a way around or through every other gate (because he can't figure out that you have to push buttons on both sides and then slide the latch out at the same time).
The BE CAREFUL part was that on one occasion, my son was holding on and slipped. When he fell, his arm got wedged and stuck between the bottom, outside bars where it tappers together. He didn't get hurt but wasn't coordinated enough to free himself.
Customer Review: Good gate, instructions a little unclear Summary: 4 Stars
I bought two of these gates, one for the bottom of the basement steps and then one for the center hall steps at the bottom.
The steps in the basement has a wall one one side and a railing on the other side. IT took my husband a few times to go through the directions to install (without hardware) but it installed fine after a while. Its been up for about 5-6 weeks now and has been great. My 12 month old pulls on it and it hasnt moved. Works great for our dogs too. The only negative is that the button that you have to push together to open the gate, sometimes I have problems using one hand to open but over all, the gate is working out great.
The one we bought for upstairs, because both sides on the staircase are railings and no wall, the gate did not mount well without hardware. I dont think the railings gave it enough support so my suggestions is that you would need at least one wall, preferably two to support this gate.
