We bought this gate to keep our dog out of parts of the house.
I had read all the reviews before buying this gate with the extension piece and knew that others were having issues with setting the pressure to have it lock/unlock properly. The directions are a bit confusing, but having done the research and knowing what to expect we had the gate up and functioning properly in about 10 minutes. The instructions do suggest not using it on drywall, which is not noted here, but we have one side on a stud and the other side on drywall and have not had any issues.
The only problem we had is this...we bought this gate to keep our small dog out of the bedrooms. She is a 10 pound Shih Tzu. The extension piece has an opening at the bottom of about maybe four inches and our dog managed to lodge her head in there! The dog was not injured but because she has so much hair, once she had her head in, she could not easily remove it on her own. We ended up wrapping the extension piece of the gate in meshing left over from a screen door and it worked perfectly so we have not had this problem again. Let me say that if you are getting this for a child, you will NOT have this problem! A babies head will not fit in this hole, but if you are using it for pets, be forewarned that small dogs might be able to fit through (tea cup poodles or other tiny dogs), or at least get their heads in that area. Our cats have had no problems with it, they jump over it and are happy to be rid of the dog!
We have had it for about 5 months now and I really do love this gate, since you do not have to step over it, and once you get the hang of opening it, you can do it with one hand, just takes a few days to get the hang of it. Small children might have a problem, but adults will figure it out in no time! :)
