Customer Review: Built Much Differently Than Other Jumpers...
Summary: 2 Stars

I originally wrote a review about this giving it 5 stars, but since my son has learned to jump using his Graco Bumper Jumper at my house, he can't figure out how to jump on this one at his dad's house and ends up getting very frustrated. The toy bar is great. He loves it and likes looking at his reflection.
It's built backwards, if you will. Most jumpers have springs that coil together as the child jumps up, and stretch as the child comes back to the ground, allowing him to be pulled back into the air- allowing him to jump and giving him the assistance needed to jump off the ground. This jumper is built backwards. I'm not sure if it's my jumper or Evenflo built this one funny. As the child is placed into the jumper, the coils come together. The top of the sheath (this holds the straps) over the coils is on top of the coils, which allows the jumper to be built the way it is. So picture this... the child is trying to jump, when usually, he can be pulled into the air. For the child to get started jumping on the Evenflo, in theory, he has to pull himself *down* to get the spring action to jump up. For a baby, this just doesn't work.
I'm giving it two stars because the toy bar is great and my son eventually figured it out. He still LOVES the Graco Bumper Jumper much better, and it even has the pads to prevent him from hurting his fingers. Please consider the Graco instead. Your child will thank you!

Customer Review: LOVE THIS JUMPER
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the Evenflo SmartSteps Jump N' Go Jumper for my daughter when she was 4 months old. At first she just sat in the jumper and played with the toy in the tray. Now, however, she is 5 months old and she jumps all over the place. She will actually jump so much that she will fall asleep while sitting in the jumper after playing too hard. I have not (and probably would not) place the jumper in a normal-sized doorway, as I have read in other reviews. We use the jumper in an oversized doorway area that is about 8-10 feet wide. Therefore, I have had no problem with the baby hitting her head, hands, or anything else. If your home only has regular sized doorways and you want a jumper for your baby maybe you should think about one that stands alone. The toy in the tray is really cute; it grabs the baby's attention and keeps her busy. It has lights and music and says, "let's jump." The toy is also removable, even though we hardly ever remove it from the tray. The tray toy gave my daughter something fun to do while she was in the learning stage, trying to figure out the whole jumping thing. She still plays with, laughs, and gets excited over the toy even now that she knows how to jump. The jumper is very sturdy and I have not seen anything that would make me think it is not safe. I consider it to be very safe and am so glad that I made this purchase for my little angel.

Customer Review: Difficult to rate
Summary: 3 Stars

I've noticed that a few people rate this toy as "dangerous." I can't entirely disagree, but I can't entirely agree either.

Yes, it is possible for a child to bump their head into the door frame when using this toy. The first time my son used it, he got to swinging from side to side pretty good, and I was really worried about that. Now though, he just sits in the middle of the door and jumps up and down, making delighted giggles.

I think there is a small danger of a bumped head with this toy, depending on how your child uses it. I wouldn't recommend putting your child in it and walking away to do the laundry. I feel that if I sit here and watch my son jump and he gets swinging near the door jamb I can stop him. Since after that first day he's never been near it, and since the risk is a bumped head and tears rather than anything particularly serious, I think rating it "dangerous" is a bit much. I imagine the danger of head bumps is much worse when a child learns to walk.

My other complaints about this toy is that it's hard to get my son in and out of it. The toy that mounts on the tray is in my opinion unnecessary, and I've left it off.

Otherwise, my son really really loves his jumper. It's by far his favorite toy.

Customer Review: Fun for the child
Summary: 4 Stars

Like L.Flack posted, my daughter too looks up at the straps but with any toy, you need to always supervise your child (not that L.Flack didn't by any means). When my daughter does this I puller her attention to her toys and the "handle bar" and she gets to jumping and watching the lights flash. When I see her putting her hands off to the side, where they could be smashed between the door and the bounce I always tell her (though she is only 7 months and doesn't understand, but someday she will) that she needs to keep her hands inside the ride at all times. I would not reccomnd this toy if you are busy with something else, because you do need to be watching her, like any toy. If you are busying try the ExerSaucer (read my review). But overall this toy is pretty safe if you are there to supervise and well worth the $40 to see you child bouncing away. I like to keep the lights really dim at night so she can see the pretty lights. It is really fun watching her jump around in this. I can see though how it is very possible for fraying to occur, but I think as long as you inspect it with each use and make sure it is secure you will be fine.

Customer Review: THIS TOY IS DANGEROUS
Summary: 1 Stars

I never write reviews, but I thought it was necessary to warn people about this toy. We first tried it out with our daughter when she was five months old or so. Like I would think many babies would do, after playing with the toys, she was interested in the straps above her head. This made her look up and put her head back. As she did that, she swung the whole thing over to the side, which sent her toward the door frame. She banged her head pretty hard on the door frame. Not good.

SO, we thought that even though the product said four months and up that she was too young. So, we waited a month. We put her in and stayed next to her this time, and the same thing happened again. We kept her from banging her head, but she would have. I don't see why they wouldn't have made the tray wider to prevent this from happening. Do they think babies are just going to jump up and down, and not move from side to side?

I also wonder sometimes if the people who write these reviews are actually parents who have used this stuff...or PR people who have some reason to endorse what is clearly a lousy product.
