We were given an Evenflo gate as a hand-me-down and we were pretty impressed with it despite it being several years old (at least 5 - maybe closer to 10). We liked how it was in pretty good condition other than a little bit of wear on the fabric portion from their younger kids holding onto it over the years. However, the one we had wasn't big enough for the openings that we wanted to block off. When I saw that Evenflo made one that would fit the opening between our living room and dining room (which is the largest opening we have), I was thrilled! We purchased it at a local store and it was installed within 5 minutes of opening it up. We have used it in both of the larger openings that we have in our house and we just love it! And we prefer this color over the navy blue on the older one.Customer Review: Soft gate perfect for larger openings

Others have complained that the Evenflo gate is hard to install. It does require attention to reading directions more than once, but after a few times setting it up and taking it down, it's fairly simple. I like that it has nothing to nail, screw in, or otherwise mar the surface of the opening. I like that it's over the standard width. The child (or in our case, dog) can see through the soft mesh netting. It folds up (a bit awkwardly at first) for easy storage. This is ideal for people who will not be using the gate all the time but want something that can be moved easily and set up fairly quickly (someone like grandparents who don't need it all the time). I definitely think it's a great bargain in comparison to the others available online.Customer Review: just what I needed

This gate is exactly what I needed to fit a doorway that was a bit bigger than any of the other regular baby gates would fit. I was a little nervous getting it based on some of the reviews, but if you read the manual that comes with it, you should have no problem installing it and taking it down. It can be a little tough getting it in, because the tension doesn't give so easily, but its not so tough that I'd have to leave it up all the time. Also, as for making holes in the wall...it instructs you not to use it unless there are beams behind the wall for reinforcement. My 16 month old is curious about the net-like gate, but it doesn't seem to be a safety hazard at all. I plan to get another one for another large doorway I have.Customer Review: Love this gate!

The opening to our staircase is especially large, and I was having a hard time finding a gate large enough (but not hideously ugly) to fit. I ordered this gate and am thoroughly impressed! My 14-month old niece came over last night and couldn't even get it to budge as she stood and shook it (and that girl is STRONG). She tried to climb up it, too, but was duped as there was nothing to stand on! :) After she left, it was wonderful to simply fold it up and stick it behind the entertainment center. It was a bit tricky to learn how to set it up, so just make sure to read the instructions. It was very easy to step over and didn't even leave a hint of a mark on the wall or wooden banister. I like this gate because it's easy to setup, doesn't cost too much and is wide enough for my doorway. This gate has metal retainer under the fabric that grabs into holes in a metal pipe to adjust the width. I have had both the top retainer and bottom retainer tab brake within a short time. I had to repair both the top and bottom retainers with something a little more heavy duty. This gate also left a residue on the door frame that had to be lightly sanded off before the gate would stay in place. be careful not to over tighten the gate, you have to adjust it so it just barley tight enough to stay in place. Overall i would buy this gate again because it is easy to fix, but wish it didn't brake so quickly.
