Baby Products Reviews of Evenflo Crosstown Soft Portable Travel GateCustomer Review: Great,Convenient Gate Summary: 5 Stars
I was given a baby gate at my shower that required mounting, so to avoid putting screws into my newly painted walls, I bought this gate. I found it fairly easy to put up and take down. I do leave it up during the day and sometimes for days at a time and just hop over it to avoid putting it up and down unnecessarily. There are a couple steps in the process and that is simpler and quicker for me. It is tall enough that my son can see over it, but not even come close to climbing over, but it is not too tall for me to hop over pretty easily(and i am only 5'1). I highly recommend this gate. And to people who say it put holes in their walls, I suspect they did not read directions carefully before installing. If you try to install it extended too wide for the opening you are trying to block or tightening too much, then i can see you having problems. It has worked perfectly for us.
Customer Review: Initially complicated, but a GREAT gate. Summary: 5 Stars
The review that made me weary of this item stated that the controls were difficult because they are under the fabric. But I needed an inexpensive gate to block off a wide area in my daycare for certain times of the day, so I ordered it. The gate didn't seem too complicated at first glance, but upon first attempt I quickly realized I should look at the instructions. The instructions were more intimidating that the gate itself and were probably crafted by someone who speaks english as a second language. The stumbling block is that for the first step you have to extend the "top" part of the gate out first- a little wider than the actual opening/doorway you are using- this provides the pressure needed to keep the whole thing firmly in place later. I had the hang of it by the 3rd time I used the gate. Recommendation: If you can operate a pack-n-play, you can operate this gate.
Customer Review: two gates with the same malfunction. Summary: 1 Stars
Over the last three months my husband and I have purchased this gate twice. The first time it lasted 3 weeks and the locking mechanisim on the top rail of the gate stoped locking and would just slid in and out. So I contacted Evenflow and they sent me a refund of the gate. I purchased another exactly the same and this time it lasted 2 and a half months and the bottom locking mechanism stoped locking. I called evenflow again but this time they will not send me a refund but another gate. Well, I do not know about you. but this poses a safty issue with my child. I do not feel these gates are as safe as they state they are. I am very un happy with this product and evenflow. They are supposed to be concerned with our childrens wellbeing when they make the products but for me they don't seem to really care at all. I would not recommend this to my worst enemy!
Customer Review: Better than expected Summary: 5 Stars
I was just looking for a simple gate to go across my kitchen area because it's larger then most door frames. I had a hard time finding something and came across this. If I had known about this product sooner I would have used it as all of my gates. Even though it says don't use at the top of the stairs I think it's sturdier than my $90 swinging gate I have. I have no regrets buying this. just got it today and it is sooo easy to put up. I didn't even need to look at the manual. No tools, it's spring loaded and very secure. It's also very high but i'm tall so that is not a problem for me. I could see it being a problem for a shorter person. I'm a little confused on how to take it down and fold it up for Grandma's house but for the price she might just have to get one. I'm sure once i read the directions I will figure it out in no time.
Customer Review: Not for traveling. Summary: 2 Stars
Don't expect to use this gate for travel purposes. Setting up this gate is easy. Taking down this gate is very difficult. The width on the top of the gate seems permanently stuck. I cannot get it to retract. I have pressed the lever and used all my weight and it doesn't budge. The bottom of the gate retracts nicely. It takes two of my hands to press on the button to get the height to collapse. This gate could double as an exercise device with how much work it can take to get it to collapse. I am done trying to get the gate to go back into the travel bag.
Furthermore, my twenty pound dog is able to defeat this gate in about two minutes. She sticks her nose between the side and the wall and down the gate goes. I can imagine a toddler hand could take down this gate just as effectively.
