Baby Products Reviews of Evenflo 3 Pack Classic Glass Bottle, 4-OunceCustomer Review: Everyone should have these! Summary: 5 Stars
A. These came much more quickly than Amazon said they would -a plus.
B. I was doubtful that they would actually fit my Medela Pump 'n Style pump...but they do! No need to do a cumbersome transfer, which was the only thing keeping me from purchasing them. Since many of the nutrients and immune factors stay in the plastic bottle, pumping in to plastic and then transfering to glass didn't seem to make much sense...but not a problem with these!
C. They're heavy and durable, and I can't imagine them breaking without serious effort.
With all the worries about the chemicals in plastics, these have taken a real load off my mind. I recommend them to all mothers, even if they only help with your stress level. They seem to only be available at Amazon, which is a shame. While you're looking, dont forget to buy them in the larger size as well: Evenflo Classic 8 oz. Glass Nurser - 6-Pack. It'll come in handy later.
Oh, also: My baby is fine with the nipples that came with them, but he's not really the picky sort.
[Edit: After using these for a few months, I have noticed that they get and stay colder than the plastic bottles, and seem to keep the milk in the fridge fresher longer. Enjoy!]
Customer Review: Not the best for pumping Summary: 3 Stars
I use a ghetto-rigged method to allow me to pump hands-free without shelling out the $$$ for a hands-free bra... I loop pony tail holders over my bra straps and then around the horns of my pump. I find that these bottles are too heavy to use this method. They might be OK with a real hands-free bra... maybe one of these days I will buy one and see. :-) (These do fwiw screw onto my medela pump - so if hands-free is not an issue or you have a real hands-free bra, these may work well for you)
Another problem with these, though, is if you store breast milk in glass bottles for less then 24 hours, certain components of the milk adhere to the glass and won't be released to the baby. They will un-stick after 24 hours - so if you use these to store milk, you will need to use that milk after 24 hours.
So these bottles are ok as far as functionality - the nipples work OK for our babies and they are cheap, sturdy, not easy to break - but I prefer the plastic ones (Evenflo and Gerber both make a BPA free plastic version very similar to this)
We got these with silicon nipples, not latex - they are available! It's a boring looking skinny nipple but seems to be my babies' favorite - we tried some pricier bottles as well as different nipples for these, but the nipples these came with work best for us.
Customer Review: Excellent! Summary: 5 Stars
We LOVE these glass bottles. I have dropped these all over the place and never one has broken. Though, I have yet to drop one outside on the pavement. My daughter had a hard time with the natural rubber nipples at first (when she was less than one month old). She wasn't strong enough to work it and ended up swallowing a lot of air causing colic. YUCK! So, we switched to the silicone for about 2 or 3 weeks (easier to pull the milk through), so she learned how to get her milk more easily. Then we switched back to the natural rubber nipples, no excessive gas problems since. Also, we were screwing the rings on too tightly, so we had to loosen those up a TINY bit to allow a little air in when she sucks. I love that they aren't terribly expensive. Babies and kids are expensive enough, so I was thankful to be able to find something I felt comfortable with that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. We have 6 4oz and 6 8oz, for us that's more than enough bottles for our now 5 month old. If you are worried about the weight, they are heavy in comparison to a plastic one. Our DD is beginning to figure out how to hold and grasp them. We have to help her, but it's no big deal to me.
Customer Review: Highly Recommend These Summary: 4 Stars
I originally bought these bottles becuase I didn't like the idea of storing breastmilk in plastic. A few months later I come to find out a that most of the plastic bottles leach chemicals into milk... guess I just lucked out by going with these from the start.
I love that they clean up so easily, don't scratch like the plastic bottles and if you are worried they might break... don't! My son kicked one off of his stroller tray and it fell onto our patio.. .and it fell HARD! Didn't break - not even a chip! The only reason I did not give them 5 stars is because I don't like that they came with latex nipples, which I have an allergy to... repeated exposure to latex is known to cause allergies, which I wouldn't want to induce in my child. I have been using dr. brown nipples. They fit but don't seem to vent air very well. I did buy a few of silicone evenflow nipples, which vent better but my son doesn't seem to like as much.
Customer Review: Yay for glass bottles! Summary: 5 Stars
Being a mother that is very concerned about what I put into my little guys body, I knew that glass bottles were the only kind of bottle I would use when I found out I was unable to breastfeed.
These bottles are impossible to find in stores, so I was very excited to find them here on Amazon.
They don't retain formula smell, or (if you lose a bottle and don't find it for several days) rotten milk smell. They come out so clean and fresh from the dishwasher.
I don't like the latex nipples that come with the bottles, so I bought leak-proof silicone nipples from Wal-Mart. They work great!
I've only had one break, and that was when it was piping hot out of the dishwasher and cold milk was poured in. It cracked, but didn't shatter.
Thanks Evenflo for continuing to make glass bottles for us chemical conscious mommies!
