Baby Products Reviews of Ergo Baby Carrier Black with Camel Lining

Customer Review: Best All Around Baby Carrier
Summary: 5 Stars

For my first baby, I tried a peanut shell sling, a front-facing carrier, and the Ergo. Now that my son's 18 pounds and 10 months old, the Ergo is the only carrier that's still around.

As a newborn, my baby hated slings, but he loved the Ergo with the infant insert. Now that he's bigger, he loves riding on my back in the Ergo. During the brief middle part of his babyhood (4 mos - 7 mos) he enjoyed seeing the world in a front-facing carrier (as opposed to the inward-facing Ergo - at that stage), but if I had to choose between a front-facing carrier and the Ergo, I'd still pick the Ergo.

The Ergo's better than the slings out there for young babies, and the backpack position can't be beat for older babies. The back support is wonderful. Today, we walked the entire zoo using the backpack, and my back feels great.

Like I said, I purchased 3 types of baby carriers. This is the one I used the most, and we're still using it today.

Customer Review: One size that doesn't fit all.

Well let's say that we've heard so many good things about this carrier that we sold our brand new never used Baby Bjorn carrier and we got this one instead. What a mistake that was. It is true that compare to the Baby Bjorn this carrier was very simple and looked comfortable at first glance but when the time for a test drive came I found out that sometimes you have to stick with your initial choice. I am 6.2 tall and weight around 200 pounds. My pants size is 34 and I had to extend the waist belt on the Ergo carrier to the end and I still felt uncofortable with the way it fell. So if you are planing to buy this carrier and you are man with pants size 34 or more please know that the waist belt will NOT FIT YOU. I don't know why the manifacturer does not provide a little bit of slack on this belt but this is a major flaw in this carrier for me personally. If you are slim and fit well this is you carrier no doubt about it otherwise look for another option.

Customer Review: THIS IS A MUST HAVE!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Moms, do yourself and your baby a favor... buy an Ergo!!! All of my friends have babies. Two of them have four each, and half of them are Doulas or Midwives. Now that I have my own, they have been a huge wealth of knowledge. I know that when they say something is the best, they've probably tried them all and it IS the best! Per their recommendations I have an "Over The Shoulder Baby Holder" which is a ring type sling (www.babyholder.com) and an Ergo which is a backpack type carrier. I love them both. I used the ring sling when my DS was smaller. The Ergo worked but my son's feet would fall asleep. Recently he got large enough where I could hold him facing me with his legs spread (about 5 months, 17 lbs) and started using the Ergo. I probably carried my baby around for about 4 or 5 hours in the Ergo today! Although my more overweight friends don't care for the Ergo, but I am 5'1" and 150 lbs. and I think it is sooo comfortable.

Customer Review: not for hot weather and not as versatile as advertised
Summary: 3 Stars

I have this carrier and the baby bjorn active. My son was born in May in 90 degree weather so this carrier was way to hot to use outdoors, at least with the infant insert. Once he was old enough to do without the infant insert, he wanted to face outwards so I used the baby bjorn- even though it killed mey back. So the 2 major shortcomings of this product are that 1)it is very hot with the infant insert and 2)the baby cannot face outwards. Now that my son is 18 lbs and the baby bjorn puts too much strain on my back I am useing the ergo carrier in the hip carry position, which I LOVE! My son loves it too. I tried the back carry position but it was very hard to put him in that positon- he always cries. Also I have no access to him on my back. Even though this product is supposed to be versatile, I have only able to use it in the hip carry position and indoors with the infant insert. It does have great back support.

Customer Review: Convenient
Summary: 5 Stars

I use this product 5 days a week when I walk with my youngest to pick up my oldest from school (about 2 hours long at a time) and I've been very pleased with this product. I started using it (with infant insert) when my baby was 3 weeks old, in the heat of the summer in the desert. She's now 4 months old and I recently stopped using the infant insert. My baby likes this carrier because, even though she's facing me, she can still look around. I agree with some reviewers that carrying a baby in the Ergo in the heat of summer can be hot, but it's still more convenient for me than any other options of carrying the baby. Also, as you carry the baby in this, your clothes will wrinkle, so keep that in mind. I've used the Baby Bjorn, but the Ergo distributes the weight a little better for me than the Baby Bjorn. I have a history of back problems, but I have none during or after using the Ergo. I highly recommend it!
