Baby Products Reviews of Ergo Baby Carrier Black with Camel LiningCustomer Review: Great product Summary: 4 Stars
Pros:
1. Unlike Baby Bjorn, the Ergo carrier is easy on my back - a lifesaver when I need to carry my son in order to soothe him.
2. It is sturdy and well made too.
3. The zip pocket is great for essentials when I'm out and about.
4. I like how the excess straps can be rolled up and I love the elastic bands safety feature around the buckles.
5. I like how I can add a backpack to the carrier, which I'm now seriously considering in light of upcoming travel.
Cons:
1. I'm finding it very difficult to carry him on my back but I guess I just need more practice.
2. Like another reviewer said, this carrier can get quite hot but I don't need the extended shoulder/waist straps of Ergo Sport.
3. My son doesn't care much for this carrier and will struggle (he will literally try to twist himself off the carrier - thank goodness that it is secure!) when I put him in or if I stay stationary in one place for too long. I'm not sure whether it's because he wants to crawl about or whether he's too hot.
4. My son hates the hip carry position in the carrier.
Customer Review: My favorite carrier! Summary: 5 Stars
We have 4 month old twin boys and people have given us numerous baby carriers including 4 Baby Bjorns and several slings (Maya, Mei Tai, and ring slings). But our babies just don't care for those other carriers and almost always start crying whenever we put them in the bjorn or a sling. Those other carriers are also so darn complicated I can't stand to even use them. Then a friend raved about her Ergo carrier so I ponied up the $105 and ordered one, and it is the BEST!! My boys never cry when I put them in the Ergo, and they usually fall right asleep. I think the reason they didn't like the Bjorn is because their arms can only stick out two awkward little holes which constrains them, plus they hang from their crotch whereas with the Ergo its more like a "seat pouch", and the material on the Bjorn is just not as soft as the Ergo. Lastly the Ergo doesn't hurt my back at all.
I can't say enough good things about this carrier. Yes it is more expensive than the Bjorns, but not by much, and well worth it! We are thinking about buying a second Ergo and just selling all of our other Bjorns and slings.
Customer Review: SO great, but a few drawbacks Summary: 4 Stars
PROS:
-SUPER comfortable. Perfectly distributes weight to your hips like a good mountaineering backpack
-Lasts much longer than other carriers thanks to higher weight rating
-Sleeping hood encourages baby to sleep by blocking out the world while also supporting her head while you move freely about
-Dads think it's as cool as Moms
-Carrying your baby in the Ergo is like holding your baby in a secure bear hug for hours - but with no arm fatigue!
CONS:
-Canvas material is not breathable, so heat/sweat can really build up with parent & baby pressed so tightly together
-Baby might get frustrated at times (like mine) at not being able to have a full view of the world
The pros obviously outweigh the cons. This carrier really is awesome, but we also have a basic ring sling for hotter days and those where we want my daughter to get to see the whole world around her. Both have their different advantages, and I'd highly recommend having one of each (and skip the Baby Bjorn type carriers altogether - not worth the price for how quickly they'll be outgrown).
Customer Review: Ergo vs. Beco vs. Bjorn...clearly Ergo wins! Summary: 5 Stars
I owned both Bjorn carrier active and Ergo and tried on a Beco. When my baby was young (newborn to 6 mo), I used Bjorn. It worked great and I loved how you can face baby forward.... until my baby got heavier, the straps started to hurt my shoulders. Maybe I have the Bjorn active, my back didn't really hurt like other people said. So, I was looking for an alternative and found Ergo and Beco. Went to a local store to try both on. Ergo's shoulder and waist paddings are much thicker (therefore much more comfortable), the hood is bigger to accommodate larger baby and it's always attached to the carrier for easy access. I use the hood all the time to provide shades under the sun and head support while my baby is napping. Also, Ergo has a front pocket that I don't need to bring my purse along anymore. Beco has a removable infant insert inside with two plastic buckles attached. Once the insert is removed, there are still these two plastic buckles inside the carrier. I can't imagine how comfy those can be for baby sitting inside. I definitely love my Ergo.
Customer Review: Best baby carrier, hands down Summary: 5 Stars
I have tried out many different kinds of baby carriers, including the Snugi, a pouch carrier (the Peanut Shell), a Moby wrap, a ring sling, and another mei tai style carrier (the Babyhawk, which is my 2nd favorite), and the Ergo is hands down my favorite. My daughter is 3 years old and I have used it with her since she was 3 months old. I even used it while pregnant with my son so I could wear my daughter on my back. With the infant insert, it's wonderful for infants who do not have much head control, too. The carrier is so easy to use, and the buckles make it quick to get on and off, as opposed to slings and mei tai carriers with straps that have to be adjusted/tied each time you put it on. The Ergo is extremely comfortable - I could carry my child in it for hours comfortably, with no shoulder or back pain. I also love the Ergo for airport travel - no need to drag a bulky stroller through the airport, and baby stays calm and happy snuggled up next to you. The Ergo is well worth the price - you will get years of use out of it!
