Baby Products Reviews of Ergo Baby Carrier Black with Camel LiningCustomer Review: Good on your back, but not for baby Summary: 3 Stars
My son is 3 months old and almost 15 lbs. I have the baby bjorn, but that hurts my back and shoulders, so after much research got the ergo. The ergo is definitely easier on my back and is much more comfortable for me. However, just like some of the other reviews said, my son's legs need to be in a complete split in order for his legs to go on either side of my waist like it's supposed to. I'm 114 lbs, and my waist is pretty slim.
Also, his butt sits deep in the seat, so that his butt end up being lower than his legs, and if you can picture it, his legs are spread apart in a split with them above his waist. He's too short to be able to even bend his knees, so its very uncomfortable for him.
I tried him on my side position since my waist is skinnier on the side and I thought he would have to spread his legs less if he wraps them around my side. This is true, but the problem is, the way the carrier is, the leg that goes to the back side ends up being lifted high (above his waist) while the other leg is low.
Given the fact that the width of the fabric that wraps around his butt is too wide, I don't see how this will be remedied unless his legs get much longer...
The only way I made it somewhat work is to roll a very large shirt and put it under his butt to give him a "seat" to sit on inside the carrier, and then to try to scrunch the fabric that wraps around his butt to clear the area between his knees.
This seems like too much effort to make it work...
Customer Review: Great Product!!! Summary: 4 Stars
Well first of all just want to say I'm a new mom and I bought the Ergo when my baby was 4months I love this product it's awesome it's very comfy it adjust's very well to diffrent lengths and sizes. The only thing is ur baby does need to be a bit bigger to fit properly in it without the infant insert. My 6 month old finally fits comfy in it without the use of rolling a blanket in there for her I guess it depends on ur baby size, my baby is barely hitting 16 lbs at 6 months so shes smaller but there's many ways to adjust them inside because there very spacious. I have taken her for walks and to the zoo in the heat and its not bad at all. She falls asleep in there and I just put the hood on her and she has a bit of privacy and shade. And you can literally walk for hours in this! It has great support!! overall Its awesome don't spend tons of money lookin for the right one, do what I did and do some online research!! And the ergo is the best! Dont just get things cause there stylish or have great design get whats best for ur baby and u!! And the ergo gave me both! people might think its a bit pricey but u get what u pay for there's hardly a carrier out there that holds up to 40lbs!! It will last u years with ur baby or babies to come. I have also heard some people buy these on ebay fairly used for a great price so if u want one but cant afford one or just want to try it out u might want to go down that route!
Customer Review: Couldn't live without my Ergo! Summary: 5 Stars
The Moby Wrap Baby Carrier-Moss is my top carrier pick for tiny babies, but after 2 or 3 months, the Ergo takes the top spot! This carrier is SO comfortable, even for toddlers -- we've worn our older son through airports, for an entire day at the British Museum, on hikes, etc.
Two of my friends have babies, and they both liked our Ergo so well they got their own. In both cases, they've been extremely happy and gotten lots of use out of it.
The Ergo is great for both front and back carries. (Baby can only face in in a front carry, not out.) Back carries can be a little tricky for most parents -- I practiced them at home in front of a mirror, while kneeling on the bed, till I got the hang of it. However, in public people DO tend to freak out when you put your kid on your back, so it's not a bad idea to warn them first so they don't try to grab your child!
The carrier seems very well-constructed and has lots of cool features, like a sleeping hood and a toy ring.
The only caveat I have is that some very petite moms I know haven't been able to wear the Ergo -- the straps just fall right off their shoulders! I'm 5'10" and fairly broad-shouldered, so I haven't had that problem, but if you're extremely small or fine-boned, you may want to try this out first before purchasing.
Customer Review: Ergo Baby Carrier Summary: 5 Stars
I love love love this baby carrier. It's an absolute life saver and a major must have for baby products. This beats all baby carriers especially the Bjorn. It is soooo comfortable for me and my 6' 240+ lb husband to use (I', 5'4" 120 lb). I don't get any of the neck and shoulder tension that the Bjorn causes. Especially once my baby hit 3 months at 15 lbs the Bjorn was useless. The Ergo is also perfect for nursing - I just cover her head with my shawl and we walk around while she eats. It is very discreet. At firt, I was interested in the Beco Baby carrier, which was so cute and seemed pretty practical. Anyway, I tried that on at a store as well as the Ergo - the Ergo won hands down!! The Ergo is much more simpler to put on although it does not have cute patterns like the Beco, which is fine becuase my husband is not into wearing flowers :) Anyway, my daughter is now almost 9 months weighs over 20 lbs and she still fits in it perfectly - either on my back or front (the back position is my fav). Also, my 30 lb 3 yr old fits in it too. We walked 1.5 miles at Disneyland with my 3 year old on my back and we were both very comfortable the whole time. This is the best product and best investment all parents must invest in!!
Customer Review: Love the Ergo! Summary: 5 Stars
This is the one product I never leave home without (besides the major necessities). I started using the Ergo when my daughter was 2 months old - with the infant insert (which I didn't like at all), but once she got to 3 months, I stopped using the insert.
I have tried it all - the bjorn, beco, moby, hotsling, belle and this by far is my favorite. Why? It's the most comfortable. I can carry my daughter in this for hours without my back or shoulders hurting and it's easy to use. The bjorn, belle and hotsling really hurt my back and shoulders. The beco (although more aesthetically pleasing) didn't feel as comfortable and the moby, it was difficult to use and there was just too much fabric.
Some areas for improvement:
fabric design - basic colors, unappealing applique designs
less padding on the shoulders - can't wear underneath a coat
more breathable material - can get really hot in the summers
Also, their customer service is GREAT! I emailed them to let them know about an issue I was having with the elastic safety belt around the waist and they sent me a brand new replacement! That's a company that stands behind their products!
