Customer Review: Versatile carrier for older infants and toddlers
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this carrier for my second child when he was about nine months old. I am under 5 feet tall and found the Bjorn painful to wear and very inconvenient since a large part of the reason I needed a carrier was to be able to care for both of my children. When my children were younger infants, I used a sling.

I bought the Ergo and immediately began using it for carrying my son on my back. It didn't take long to learn how to use it this way and he quickly caught on as well. He didn't always cooperate as he got older, but by that time I was able to get him on my back even under protest. The first few times we used it, my son didn't like it very much, but he got used to it and was happy in the Ergo until he got old enough to think it was too baby'ish when he was about 3. It worked very well for naps and walks, and was a lifesaver for errands when I could put his older sister in the cart and my son on my back. My children are 18 months apart in age and having the Ergo made my life a little bit easier.

I used this as a front carrier mainly when taking my son out of the carseat when he was asleep. I found that if I loosened the sternum strap and pulled it up high I could fasten it and then make adjustments with a little less trouble.

I didn't find that the carrier's bulk was a big issue, even though I live in a warm climate. My son's pant legs rode up in the winter and I had to make an effort to tug them down or put a pair of "baby legs" on him. It also takes a little care to make sure the carrier doesn't cause a jacket or coat to ride up, but we could certainly use it with winter clothing.

My husband used this carrier as well with no problems- 32-34 waist and 40 chest. I couldn't see him using a Mai Tai, or Babyhawk carrier quite as willingly. We also had a full frame pack but very rarely used it as we felt this carrier was adequate for the light hiking that we're doing with 2 young children.

My considerably larger brother (over 6') uses an Ergo to carry his son everywhere and has used it both as a front and back carrier.

Customer Review: Save your $$$ and your back - buy an ERGO
Summary: 5 Stars

This review compares the Ergo to the Baby Bjorn Synergy for those trying to decide between the two.

I never take the time to write reviews, but I rely on them so much when making expensive purchases that I felt I had to finally share my opinion on baby carriers. In a nutshell, I own 4 different types of carriers and have tried many, many more than that. The Synergy is by far the best the Baby Bjorn brand has to offer, but if you have any issues with low back pain do not be fooled by the lumbar support panel. It does absolutely NOTHING to support your low back or to redistribute baby's weight away from your shoulders. There is NO padding on the shoulder straps, which is a killer after about 10 minutes of wear with even a light baby. AND you have to tighten all the straps so tightly to feel secure that it feels like I'm cutting off the circulation around my waist.

The only carrier on the market today that is actually comfortable for you AND your baby is the Ergo. As the name suggests, it is ergonomically designed with you and your baby in mind. The thick, comfortable waist band is the ONLY design that actually distributes your baby's weight to your hips - away from your neck, shoulders and low back. The thick, padded shoulder straps are wonderful. They seem bulky at first, but definitely worth it for my 23 lb. 11-month old boy.

You may wonder why I even give the Synergy 2 stars. I considered giving it less, but I think it is ok for smaller, lightweight babies or those who no longer want to face their parents while in the carrier (as babies cannot face outward in the Ergo). Also, if you do not have any back issues and do not care about padding on the shoulders then I could understand how you might be happy with this carrier. But I say save your money and make the Ergo your long-term baby carrier by buying the infant insert to accommodate your newborn. I discovered the Ergo too late in the game and already wasted about $300 total on carriers.

Customer Review: Get the ergo! Much better than the bjorn!
Summary: 5 Stars

While expecting, we hemmed and hawed about whether to get the Ergo carrier or the bjorn. We chose the bjorn based on the reviews and, honestly, because it looked better and not as granola-ish as the ergo. Well, we made a mistake. Our daughter is now 9 months old, we finally tried the ergo, and it is a million times better. The bjorn is uncomfortable after walking more than a few blocks (both my husband and I didn't admit this to ourselves for a long time, but it is). There are a bunch of awkward straps on the bjorn that, if and when you figure out how to strap in the baby (it is a bit of a pain), hang all over the place like stupid black tentacles while you walk. If your baby is a healthy, strong (okay, large) baby like ours, she feels much too snug in the bjorn and her legs will sometimes turn dark red because her circulation gets cut off. (Other parents with a bjorn have confirmed that this happened to them too. Not good.) The front flap does not stay down and you have to constantly check to make sure it hasn't flipped up into baby's face. Finally, the mesh bag at the bottom that is supposed to tuck into a little pocket always gets out, and then this black netty thing hangs down between your legs as you walk around. The ergo, on the other hand, is EXCELLENT. You can carry baby front, back, or hip (my fave). She feels totally light in it and you can walk for miles without discomfort. (She can't face front in the ergo, but you can carry her on your hip facing to the side.) The straps are super easy to figure out and snap shut, so you don't have to battle with straps and carrier and baby for a million years while others watch sympathetically - embarrassingggg. Please get the ergo!

Customer Review: My favorite carrier by far!
Summary: 5 Stars

My son is 3 months old (13 lbs) and I had purchased the Bjorn and Moby before he was born and never really heard of the Ergo. The Bjorn worked great until he started pushing 10 lbs and after wearing him for any amount of time greater than 10 minutes, my back and shoulders would start to kill me! So I switched to the Moby, which I initially really liked because he was so snug in there and absolutely loved it. But taking him anywhere outside of the house, like running errands, it just wasn't practical because it's such a pain to wrap around you and taking him in and out was quite a chore as well.

So upon the recommendation of a few friends, I ordered an Ergo and I am in love with it! All the weight rests on my hips, not my back or shoulders and I have been wearing my baby for the past hour and I still feel like I could walk a few miles with him in it. He's not quite big enough to wear on the back, but once he is, I know I'm going to LOVE it. But I like how secure the Ergo is vs. the Bjorn where the baby always felt like he was flopping around. I also like that it only takes two buckles to get situated unlike the Moby that takes a few minutes wrapping yourself up like a hotdog to make it work.

All in all, I wish I had purchased this carrier in the beginning and gotten the infant insert and not even bothered with the Bjorn or Moby. I spent $55 on this carrier and it's well worth ever penny. I will be selling my Bjorn and Moby and when my next baby comes along, I'll just get the infant insert for my Ergo vs. trying to use all those other carriers.

I highly recommend this carrier!

Customer Review: Great for both Parents
Summary: 5 Stars

My wife and I have tried many baby carriers over the last year (our baby Miles just turned one at the end of October). Our current count of different carrying devices is around 11. By far the one that gets the most use and is the most comfortable is the Ergo Baby Carrier. We have a Bjorn, a Snugli, we've tried wraps, slings and backpacks and while most of them work they aren't as comfortable as the Ergo. I'm 6'2" and my wife is 5'3" and between the two of us we have to do very little adjusting (if any) to swap the Ergo between her and I comfortably.

I'd be lying if I said the Ergo is the easiest to use. The straps are all easy enough but the safety strap in the back is much easier with another person helping. On top of that if you want to put the baby on your back you have to be either very daring or have a helping hand.

What makes the Ergo the best is the comfort. The straps are all padded in just the right places. The belt can get a little uncomfortable over time but it can be loosened very easily. With very solid and sturdy construction the Ergo is in as mint condition now as when we bought it (already used).

Having tried many of the baby carriers on the market I would highly recommend the Ergo to new parents or parents looking for the best one. It's certainly not the cheapest, but if you start with the Ergo it will save you the cost of buying multiple other types anyway. It's worth the money with the comfort and quality and our one year old (who has been over 90th percentile in height since birth) fits in it just as well now as when he was an infant.
