I used the level one nipples for a long time before reading that that older babies are supposed to have higher flow nipples. We then bought level 2 nipples and level 4 nipples (we couldn't find level 3), which we used interchangeably. It seemed my daughter had no preference for one over the other, nor did I notice a big difference. It all worked out great.
