Baby Products Reviews of Dr. Brown's Natural Flow Newborn Feeding SetCustomer Review: Bottles sent from God Summary: 5 Stars
When my son was born and nursing did not work out I originally used the Playtex disposable bottles (he threw up everything), then we went to the Avent Bottles (they leaked and he had wicked gas and it would take him and hour to eat 2-3 oz). He spit up all the time and cried in misery from the gas pains and we almost took out stock in anti-gas drops. We tried different formulas and nothing worked. I saw these bottle in all the baby magazines and at BRU and I figured what the heck. I bought one 4 oz bottle and tried and I was sold. My son ate his feeding in record time, hardly spit up and no miserable gas pains. He was a different baby, content and happy after eating from the first feeding with Dr Brown's miracle bottles. We used them all the way up until he was about 7 or 8 months old and now we use the Playtes Ventaire bottles and he is doing wonderful. I have recommended these to many friends and they have been more than pleases at the results. I will use them again with my next baby whenever that time comes.
Customer Review: Good for feeding, but hard to clean Summary: 4 Stars
I found that these bottles did help my son have less gas, but they are very hard to clean. As opposed to just wiping out the bottle with a brush, and then cleaning the nipple and collar, you have a small tube that you must use a small brush for (this is included with the bottles). This is no big deal, but the apparatus under the nipple that the tube attaches to is nearly impossible to keep clean, because of all the crevices it has. I found myself trying to clean it with any brush (bottle brush, nipple brush, even the little tube brush that was included) I could find, and then giving up and trying to scrub it as best I could and then re-sterilize it. I believe we actually threw away some of these pieces out because we could not get them clean enough. Then we had to go out and buy whole new bottles, because you can't just buy that piece on its own. So, I would recommend this bottle if your child is gassy and unhappy, but I would definitely say be prepared for a lot of time cleaning formula out of its nooks and crannies.
Customer Review: Worth the extra cost- espcially for breast fed babies Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the infant set and was pleased with the array of the sizes. I do wish that they had included a couple of the wide mouth bottles in the set just to give you a chance to try all the styles (which are also excellent- my baby was able to go back and forth easily between the nipple sizes and the wide necks fit with the cap on in the bottle cooler bags for daycare). Bottles work great, baby only burps once after a feeding and rarely do I get spit up or gas when using them. The only drawback is they are a little labor intensive to clean with all the parts needing signficant time (if you don't use a dishwasher). The small size also fits on the breast pump instead of needing the medela bottles which saves cost and time (transfering milk back and forth). The kit also includes the caps to use if you are storing breat milk in the fridge which the single set of smaller bottles does not come with. Also, the small size is perfect for breastfeeding since breast fed babies don't need 6-8 ounces a feeding. Great product.
Customer Review: No other bottles needed! Summary: 5 Stars
When my son was born in May I tried the Dr Brown's bottles based on a co-worker's recommendation, and I am so glad I did! My kids are all primarily breastfed, but for times when I need a bottle, Dr. Brown's are now the only ones I will use. My son is almost 4 months old now, and has had very little gas, and has never had any problems with colic! I wish I had had these bottles when my other children were babies.
As for those whining about the extra parts to clean.. Puh-leeze! I hand-wash all my baby's bottles anyway, but did you know these bottles also include an extra thin bottle brush to clean the straws with?? Dr. Brown's makes it as easy on the parents as possible, but who doesn't take the extra time to make sure their baby has the best? With the little brush to use on the straw and vents, it really takes no time at all, so stop the nonsense. Anyone who is even halfway considering trying these bottles really should pick up ONE at least, but I know you will go out and get more if you do!
Customer Review: Pleased with bottles Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased these bottles because of the rave reviews. So far the bottles have worked well. My daughter is now 2 months old. Initially, she had a lot of problems with gas, even with the bottles but I later discovered that it was her formula causing the problem and not the bottles. Some have said that it is a cinch cleaning the bottles...I beg to differ. It does take some time to dismantle all of the parts and reassemble them, however the slim form of the bottle makes these the best to travel with. I haven't had any problems with the bottle leaking. I have been very careful to fill it only to the line as indicated on the bottle. Some one mentioned chips of the blue paint...I did notice a few paint chips from the writing on the bottle, but after the first few washes, it was no longer an issue. One mother recommended these bottles for only infants and I agree. Too many parts to have to deal with if your child is older and no longer struggles with sucking in unneccessary air bubbles.
