Baby Products Reviews of Dr. Brown's BPA Free Polypropylene Natural Flow Bottle Newborn Feeding SetCustomer Review: Great bottles! Summary: 5 Stars
I initially purchased the Breastflow bottles since I was nursing and bottle feeding. I did my research and just by looking at the bottles it made since that these would be the best for my baby to transition back and forth between bottle and breast. I loved the wide base of the nipple but found that the milk came out too fast. When I nursed baby she would get sleepy but since she was drinking so fast with the Breastflow bottles she was wide awake. Getting discouraged with bottle feeding I tried the Dr. Browns bottles. What a life saver! The stage 1 flowed a lot slower making her bottle feeding longer and her sleepy at the end of the feeding. We switched all the nipples to the preemie flow and it was even better. We realized that there was less air and gas with our baby due to the special vent system. And the "extra/too many" pieces that many parents complain about with these bottles were not a problem for us. There are only 2 other parts than a regular bottle. And for us washing two extra parts for our baby to be less gassy and more sleep was well worth it. I am strictly using Dr. Browns bottles now and I am really happy. This set is great because you won't always need the smaller 4oz bottles, but the small size is a lot easier than the larger bottles. A great starter set!
Customer Review: Love the idea, but the nipple gags my baby Summary: 3 Stars
I have been looking for a bottle that my daughter will not reject. My daughter was using The First Years Breastflow BPA Free Starter Set, but suddenly rejected the bottle. We noticed that she became very gassy with those bottles, so tried the Dr. Brown's bottles, which were recommended by my home daycare provider. I believe that the venting system is important, as the Breastflow nipple would collapse completely while she was drinking, making it harder to draw milk. However, the nipple on the Dr Brown's bottle was so long and narrow my daughter would gag regularly as the nipple hit the back of her throat.
The bottle also leaked from the sides/vent after returning to an upright position even though I filled the bottle below the max fill line.
A little advice: if you are trying to find the perfect bottle for your baby, keep in mind that all babies are different. My son would take ANY bottle without a problem, and now my daughter is on her 4th bottle, and I still haven't found the perfect one. Both of my children were breastfeeding exclusively at the time. I suggest buying single bottles at a store and trying it before ordering large starter kits.
Customer Review: Best buy for breastfed babies Summary: 5 Stars
I recently purchased the BreastFlow by First Years for my 3 wk son. He seemed to drink pretty well from them, but the flow was too fast and the nipples seem to collapse. It was kind of a pain to squeeze the nipple to get the milk back into the bottle.
My friends told me about the Dr. Brown bottles and showed me the nipple flow. I bought some based on my friends recommendation and have fell in love with the bottles. My son drinks slower, has less gas, and does not spit up as much. I would highly recommend these bottles to anyone who breastfeeds and pumps, or breast and formula feed. My son did not realize he was full for 10-15 minutes after using the BreastFlow bottles, with the Dr. Brown's (because of the slower flow nipples that simulate the actual breast flow speed) my son realizes he is full soon after his feeding.
Definately worth the money, wish I would have known about the differences in the compared products nipple flow and I wouldn't have wasted my money on the BreastFlow bottles.
The only downside to the Dr. Brown bottles is that it is more time consuming to wash the bottles because of the extra pieces, but that is minor compared to the satisfaction my son receives from each feeding due to the nipple flow and decreased air intake.
Customer Review: Not the bottle for my baby Summary: 3 Stars
I bought these because I was convinced that they'd just be the best for my baby with the special flow system and the freshness seals... but none of that matters one lick because my baby won't touch them!
The poster who warned that the bottle brushes are not included is correct. No brushes. That's a shame, because I could actually use some bottle brushes. Also, my lactation consultant says that these bottles are a faster-flow bottle. She says it in a bad way, as though slower is always better, but I don't think fast is necessarily a bad thing if your own letdown is strong (like mine) and your baby prefers a stronger stream.
I like that these bottles fit my medela pump, so at least I can use them for milk collection and storage, but my baby won't take them. For whatever reason, she prefers the medela bottles. Maybe I can give these to someone from my breastfeeding mothers' group. I know some of the babies there love the Dr. Browns, so perhaps the won't go to waste.
Customer Review: Best bottles out there! Summary: 5 Stars
I have tried just about every bottle out there, and I keep coming back to Dr. Brown's bottles. Before my baby was born, I received a bunch of Dr. Brown's bottles as a baby shower gift. I planned on exclusively breastfeeding my baby and hadn't registered for bottles, or even thought about them that much. I was able to breastfeed exclusively for 4 months, until I had to return to work. At that time, the hunt for the perfect bottle began. I tried the Dr. Brown's bottles and liked them, but being the perfectionist I am, I wanted to try everything out there to make sure there wasn't something better. I literally have a bin of unused single bottles of just about every brand out there sitting in my pantry because after about $100 in bottles and trial and error, I am back to using my Dr. Brown's bottles. Please let me save you the $100 I spent trying every bottle out there. These are by far my favorite bottles and I plan on using them for every future child I have!
