Baby Products Reviews of Dr. Brown's 4 oz Natural Flow Baby Bottle, 3 PackCustomer Review: GREAT WITH MY PREEMIE Summary: 5 Stars
I had planned on using the Playtex reusable Insulated bottles with no bags (hated the nursers with bags with my 1st baby) and we had bought plenty although they only came in 8 oz sizes, I figured since I was going to breastfeed that would be fine.. Well, my little bundle arrived a month premature and needed preemie nipples on her bottles and so off to babies r us I went before she got out of the NICU and the only preemie nipples I could find anywhere were some tiny ugly Gerber bottles that were just regular bottles with no special features for keeping air out of her tummy and Dr Browns.. So I had told myself before a million times I would NOT use the Dr Browns because the straw seemed like a pain in the butt.. But, because of her being so little and needing the smaller flow, I went ahead and bought a 3 pk. to try with her.. I brought her home today and LOVE them to death.. I can tell they work because the air doesnt bubble up and she have to let off the nipple because of suction which is great... I am going to go get more as soon as possible since I am having to nurse and then offer a bottle of breastmilk to monitor how much she is taking in at each and every feeding.. I have washed them numerous times today alone and they are easy to clean.. The straws just take an extra minute to do but Im washing breastpump parts every feeding also LOL.. So no problem.. They are much better for my little princess.
Customer Review: Helpful for colicky babies Summary: 5 Stars
My son had allot of problems with colic and digestive upset. He was switched soon after birth to Nutragamin because of this, and still spent MANY MANY hours a day fussing and crying. We purchased the Dr. Brown bottles before he was born based on the reviews and started to wonder if they were really helping so we tried a regular Gerber bottle and the results were horrible! Even though his colic was still terrible he very rarely spit up until we tried the other bottle. My conclusion was that even though he still had terrible colic these bottles did do what they promised and a baby that was suffering from mild to moderate colic would probably benefit greatly from them. At 6 months now his colic has abated and I still won't switch to another bottle. Yes, they do take a little extra time to wash, but the results are worth it. I have found that boiling them daily is easier and cleaner than the dishwasher gets them and after all of this time they are still in great shape, I've just had to replace the nipples. These bottles are definetly worth the money and I have reccommended them to all of my friends and family, who also have had great success with them.
One note though: if you fail to use the plastic disk while traveling they do tend to leak. This isn't a major problem, I know, but has led to a few minor disasters with a wet car seat when the bottle has toppled over in transit.
Customer Review: Only bottle baby likes! Summary: 4 Stars
I have tried EVERY bottle there is-from the cheapest to the most expensive. This is the only bottle/nipple my son likes besides the Playtex disposable (my husband can't grasp the idea of squeezing the air out before feeding, so that is out). My son has horrible reflux and food allergies, is on Zantac and prescription formula, & this is the only one that he doesn't vomit or get gassy. His gastro doc says he doesn't recommend any bottle over another, to just use what baby likes. I put everything in the dishwasher, but I couldn't imagine having to wash all the pieces by hand. The only time the bottle leaked was when my husband put it lying down in the diaper bag w/out the travel cap. Also, the bottles have 4 nipple options: stage 1-3, & Y-cut. All other bottles only have slow & fast. At 2 1/2 mths my son switched to the level 2 & is doing very well, where other fast flow nipples were to fast for him. The only drawback is that the small size bottles only go to 4oz. After only 3 weeks my son was drinking at least 5 oz. So I have all these bottles I can't use. Also important- the nipples do fit on the Playtex Ventaire bottles which the small size bottles go to 6oz which is much more convienient and are probably a lot easier to wash by hand. I think next baby I will just use the Dr. Brown's nipples w/the Playtex bottles (and they don't leak at all).
Customer Review: I tried, but am very 2 Stars
I first saw these bottles at a baby fair and was sooo impressed with them that I put them on my registry. I didn't end up using them until my daughter was about 1 year old because I breastfed her till 10 months and when I was weaning her off the breast, I found that she liked the Playtex nipple. So we used the Playtex collapsibles for a short time. Then we moved on to the Dr. Brown's, which I couldn't wait to use. Granted, my daughter didn't really have a problem with gas, but I figured that using these bottles would keep it that way. What a disappointment! I found them to be leaky. And I made sure I followed all the directions (making sure the inner chamber fit securely on the green rubber filter, don't shake to mix formula, don't fill over the fill line, etc.) I even made sure to line up the ridges of the bottle with those on the cap when twisting the cap on, just so I was sure it was on correctly. And still it leaked. I know I did everything right. Yet when I would put the bottle down on the table during or after a feeding, a ring of milk would form on the table. Sure they are a more work to clean than other bottles, but I wouldn't have minded cleaning them if they worked properly. Needless to say, I was very disappointed, especially because they are also more expensive than most other bottles. I now use the Ventaire bottles which are wonderful!!!!
Customer Review: So far so good... Summary: 4 Stars
I bought these bottles after reading all the reviews so I thought I would give them a try. They were a bit on the expensive side, but what specialized bottle isn't. Since my son was born almost 3 months ago, I've tried Avent, Evenflo and Dr Brown's. My son has a problem with gassiness, and it hurt me to see him with stomach pains and I couldn't do a thing about it. I normally breastfeed, but when I breastpump to relieve engorgement or let my husband feed him to allow him one-on-one time with the baby, I had to find a bottle that would help keep the milk down and relieve him of gas pains. I bought these and have not had a single problem with them. My baby has no problems keeping his milk down and hasn't spit up once. He burps within 5 minutes of feeding him, and after every feeding he either goes to sleep contently or stays awake satisfied and in such a good mood. We haven't had a problem with him being fussy and in pain. We're continuing to use Dr Brown's because of the results, but we will see how well it goes in the weeks to come. There ARE a lot of parts to the bottle, and sometimes I have to wonder if I'm missing a piece when we go somewhere and I have to feed him somewhere other than home, but once you get used to cleaning them and putting them together, it becomes second nature. I like these bottles. I would recommend them.
