Baby Products Reviews of Dr. Brown's 4 oz Natural Flow Baby Bottle, 3 PackCustomer Review: The Doctor is right! Summary: 5 Stars
I discovered these bottles through an advertisement in a magazine at my Dr.'s office. Prior to my daughter being born I purchased both Gerber bottles (The worst) and Dr. Brown's. My friends thought that I had spent a little too much money and said that I could not do anything about my baby's gas if she happened to have any. Boy, were they wrong. After continuosly using disposable bottles ( the hospital gave us tons ) my newborn would wail and squirm after every feeding. Once I had the chance to sterilize her bottles I went for the Gerber bottles first and what a big mistake. For the next few days, it was all about no sleep day or night and a screaming baby. Thinking it was her umbilical cord healing I rushed her to her pediatrician whom camly explained that it was colic and there was nothing we could except sometimes close the door to her room and leave her there to "cry it out". Whatever! That night, I began using only the Dr. Brown's bottles and I NEVER had another screaming episode since then. Sometimes, I even get scared because she wont burp at all and I wonder if everything is allright but the truth is that these bottles deliver what they promise. Whenever we go out strangers stare at her bottles and ask me why they have "that tube". Yes, they cost a little more ( would price be an obstacle for you if YOU needed it ? )and there 2 extra parts to clean. Just rinse them promptly upon completing the feeding. The extra parts only require an extra minute. Big deal. Moms and Dads : don't be cheap and dont be lazy! and remember to follow ALL the directions.
Customer Review: These are the best!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Update 12/15/04. I've been using these bottles since my youngest daughter was 1 month old. She's now 15 mos old and I couldn't be happier with Dr Brown's bottles. Not once has she had an ear infection which our family Dr is just amazed about. My oldest daughter used the bottles with the disposable liner and she had ear infections about once every month. I agree with some of the other reviews about the included brush not lasting long and the fact that the extra parts do take additional time to clean but I feel that the time and money I save going to Dr appts is well worth it. To me, an extra 5 minutes cleaning bottles is worth my baby not being in pain from gas bubbles, ear infections, etc.
Review 12/3/03. I tried the Dr Brown's bottles after trying numerous others. My daughter finally stopped spitting up during feedings and was in a much better mood after feeding. Although there is an extra part or two to clean, it is well worth the time. I only had one experience with the bottle leaking in the diaper bag, but that was due to forgetting the disc and bottle cap.
To the person that was dissatisfied because the portion of the bottle that the straw attaches to became moldy after 3 months . . . this is part of the bottle and should be cleaned along with the other pieces after each use. Not every 3 months.
I would definately recommend this bottle to others if you have a child that takes in alot of air during feedings or has a problem with colic. It has been a definate lifesaver in my house!
Customer Review: Love it!!! Hate it!!! Summary: 3 Stars
I am an Avent fan, I am breastfeeding and supplementing. I had no real problems with Avent until I had to switch to the 3 month plus nipples then I had to deal with a collapsing nipple. So I decided to try these bottles. I've been using it for 5 days now and my 4 month old daughter loves the bottle. She's eating steadily without dealing with a collapsing nipple as with Avent. Plus, she doesnt spit up as much and I dont need a washcloth to put under her chin to get all that milk dripping with the avent bottle. I don't mind the extra pieces to wash since my daughter deals with less gas. I have two problems. When heating the bottle in the Avent warmer, the milk goes through the tube and overflows. So I figured I'll have to heat the milk in a seperate bottle and then transfer the milk into this bottle. My main gripe with this bottle is the fact that I have to use a travel disc that i have to remove from under the nipple while on the road. I went to the doctor today with my daughter and I always use disinfectant wipes to kill germs but I didnt like the fact that I would have to open up the bottle remove the disc from inside and risk putting the wipe chemicals in her bottle. Then i decided to use a tissue to try and get it out and it was a mess and inconveniece. For my next appointment I left the disc off and milk spilled all in the thermal bag it was a mess. Some reconfigurations need to be made to make this bottle more user friendly because they definetely have a winner once they tweak the flaws.
Customer Review: Dr. Brown's bottles are great Summary: 5 Stars
I have enjoyed using Dr. Brown's bottles for our daughter. People thought I was crazy when I bought them, but I have stuck with them and have not had a baby that spits up like others. A fellow baby at daycare uses Avent and he spits up all day long! Our little baby doesn't spit up hardly at all. My husband asked one time why our baby doesn't spit up that much...I told him, thankfully it was due to the bottles! Our baby still has some gas problems but I think that is related to her drinking so fast when she wakes up and is so hungry along with the fact that she has an umbilical hernia and I think that bothers her digestion. The cleaning is not that difficult with these bottles and is worth it for your child. I usually put the bottles and the tubes on the top rack in the dishwasher and then put the rings and the rubber part in the bottom of a dishwasher basket with the nipples in the top part. No problems! The only difficulty I have with these bottles is having to explain to others how to use them. When we take her to nursery at church, the older ladies don't know how to use them and I have to explain it to them. That is the only drawback is that it takes a lot of explaining to others how to use it. Also we have no leaking because we take the nipple and coller off to warm the bottle. I dont' have leakage in the diaper bag either as I sit them upright in the pockets inside. I rarely use the disks anymore.
Customer Review: The LEAK is EASY to fix! Summary: 5 Stars
We got these bottles like most of the people on here, because our son was very gassy and miserable. Since using these, he's been a much happier baby (it didn't solve the problem completely, but it reduced the problem noticably). He seems to dribble less too. We wish we would have started with these bottles instead of buying all sorts of others to begin with that we now won't use. Save your money and just get these first. Actually, we use the other bottles to shake the formula in then put it in these bottles.
Leaky? Here's the solution!
Some reviewers have mentioned the bottles leaking. We experienced the same problem, but the fix is simple; it's not a problem with filling over the line (we do that sometimes and it doesn't matter). The issue is with the tubing... I'll bet the people who complain about leakage are warming the foruma in something with the lid locked tight (cause that's what we do and we experienced this issue). Having the bottle in warm/hot water like this with the lid on tight wil cause the formula to rise up in the tubing and leak. The solution is simple: when heating this way, just loosen the lid completely while warming and tighten it again right before feeding. No more leaking!
And we don't find the extra pieces that much harder to wash. I mean, what's a couple of extra seconds compared to HOW much time you save trying to console a gassy unhappy baby?
