Customer Review: A BLESSING!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

My daughter was born 4 weeks early and when we tried her on formula we found she was allergic to the milk protein, which led us to a specialized formula (Nutramigen). On the formula is states for colic babies and babies with allergies. Nobody ever said she was a colic baby and we really didn't experience any of the colic symptoms with her at first. The formula is supposed to help with that. At about 4wks after she was born she started with what I called the violent feedings. She would scream out of control, didn't want her bottles, had trouble sleeping and would cry in pain when she passed gas. I tried Avent bottles, Platex Vent Aire, switching nipples, switching feeding positions, nothing seemed to work. I felt so helpless and at a loss of what to do for my daughter. After 7wks at home I returned to work and talked with a co-worker whose daughter is 2wks younger than mine and he stated he had the same problem and the tried Dr. Brown's bottles, that they were a little more money but well worth it. That day I went and purchased a few bottles and went home to try them out. At the first feeding she didn't like the new nipple so I tried it again at the next feeding and she took right to it and slept for 51/2 hours straight. I didn't know about the wide neck bottles at the time or I would have tried those first. Where I purchsed her first bottles they only carried the standard. Now Dr. Brown's is the only bottle we use and feedings are so wonderful and my daughter is so much happier and sleeps 6-7 hours already at 21/2 months. I wish that the hospital or even my doctor could have suggested these bottles to me, it could have prevented a lot of pain for her and a lot of sleepless nights for me. I don't see a lot of advertising for Dr. Brown's bottles but I will use nothing else and I tell all the mother's to be I know all about them. Theses bottles are a blessing.

Customer Review: Great Bottles - No leaking problem either
Summary: 5 Stars

After reading some great reviews and some terrible reviews of these bottles, I purchased them with some trepidation.

My daughter was having a hard time latching on to other bottles. We tried Avent, Gerber, Playtex (both the liner and the Ventaire) with no luck. She kept breaking her latch every other sip and would make very loud sucking sounds. She was getting a lot of air in her stomach, making her, me and my wife miserable.

The first time we used this bottle, I noticed that she latched on much better to the nipple. She was making "fish-lips" which she hadn't done consistently on other systems. She also was not making the loud sucking/slurping sound. (She makes it sometimes, but it is very infrequent.)

As for the leaking, I followed the directions carefully because I was concerned about it. I haven't had any problems. Maybe as parts wear out, it may happen, but so far I can't complain about this.

My daughter still gets gas (what baby doesn't?) but it has improved a lot. I realize that this bottle probably doesn't work well for everybody since every baby is different. My son was fine on Playtex, and may not have done well on these - who knows?

Edit - I have been using these bottles for almost 3 months. They do not leak. When I heat them up, I don't attach the insert and nipple. When we travel, we put on a special cap (not the disc insert) - it has not once leaked in our diaper bag.

For those complaining about the nipple flow (and having to use a needle to make it wider), they sell Size 2 (for 3+ months) as well as a Y-Cut for cereal. My local Babies R' Us carries all the supplies.

I still really like these bottles. Yes, they take a little longer to clean, but my daughter burps very easily when using them and doesn't cry in pain from gas anymore.

Customer Review: These bottles are the best!
Summary: 5 Stars

My Grandson took right to these bottles without any problems at all. They are the best bottles I have ever seen and I wish they had been available when my kids were babies. I have read the other reviews and I have a few comments. Yes, they can leak but you just have to treat them as if they will leak and prop them up in the diaper bag. The cost is higher than other bottles, yes. There are no replacement parts, no. If you lose a part, you will have to buy a whole new bottle, yes. My thought here is that your baby is a precious human life who is certainly worth these more expensive bottles even if they were twice the money! As an adult, do you realize how painful gas is? Think about that the next time you think about the price of these bottles. Also, there was someone who mentioned mildew on the stem part of the bottle. Cleaning them thoroughly will not really allow mold to grow on them. The best way to clean these bottles is to take them apart completely and soak them in VERY hot water with a tiny bit of bleach and dish soap. Rinse well and then wash them in hot soapy water and remember to rinse well and let them air dry completely. After that you should not have any mold problems at all! The baby definitely deserves the extra time it takes to wash these bottles in order to avoid the pain of gas! I am amazed at our society these days and people who want everything done so easy and done for them! I am only 43 years old and I feel strongly about this! I work hard for my money and am not a wealthy person, but even so, my Grandchild deserves the best! I wouldn't buy any other bottle!!! Try them, you will love them too!!

Customer Review: Dr. Brown's is the BEST!
Summary: 5 Stars

I don't have any real experience with other brands of bottles, but, Dr. Brown's bottles have worked for my son. I've also passed along the word about them to all my friends - even some who have used other brands, and they all agree...Dr. Brown's is the BEST!
One girlfriend who was using Ventaire bottles for her son, was at a well visit, and found out he had fluid in his ears. That alone made her switch because she heard they were supposed to be better for reducing ear infections. Well,a few days later the fluid was gone. This dosen't prove the Dr. Brown's bottles made the fluid go away, but he hasn't had fluid in his ears since.
These are some things I've discovered about Dr. Brown's bottles...
-Follow the directions to a "T" and you won't have a problem.
-Don't fill above the line-it will leak!!
-Yes, they are a pain to clean, but worth it.
-Don't assemble the bottle until you're absolutely sure all parts are dry.
-Take the collar and nipple off to heat .
-Keep the strainer in the drain or you'll lose the little brush!
-Buy more 8 oz. Bottles, you only use the 4 oz. for a little while.
-BIG QUESTION FOR ME! When do you switch up to the next stage nipple? Well I noticed my son's bottles would get fluid in the straw and you'd have to release the air from the bottle. Also, he would "take breaks" every so often and not eat as much. As soon as I would switch up to the next stage, these symptoms went away. He's six months old now, and using stage 3 nipples. I couldn't be happier. I reccomend Dr. Brown's bottles to every new mom I know!!

Customer Review: Dr. Brown's Was the Runner-Up in Bottle Choice
Summary: 3 Stars

As a new Mommy, I bought a sample of all the different recommended bottles out there to see which one my newborn would like best. Dr. Brown's is obviously a highly recommended bottle, particularly for those who have colicky babies or those who spit up/have gas frequently.

Dr. Brown's came in as the #2 choice for my newborn. The #1 winner was actually the Playtex Ventaire Standard bottle. The reason I mention this is because the concept of reducing the amount of air taken in by the baby and the nipple size are very similar in both bottles. So, I'd recommend trying both brands to see which one your baby likes best.

The Dr. Brown's bottle nipple seemed to have a faster flow than the Ventaire, even thought he nipples look almost identical! My baby needed a slower flow so she'd dribble with the Dr. Brown's nipple. I also tracked how much my baby spit up or had gas after feedings using all the different bottles and she had more of both with the Dr. Brown's bottle--I think because the nipple flow is too fast for her.

The other thing to note about the Dr. Brown's bottle is there are a couple of parts that go into the bottle that help reduce the air bubbles that need to be thoroughly cleaned with the little pipe cleaner thing that comes with the bottle and that's a little bit of a hassle. And as other people noted, my bottles leaked sometimes, as well. But again, every baby is different and like what they like! I'd just recommend trying both Dr. Brown's and Playtex Ventaire since they are both so similar in function, size, etc.
