Baby Products Reviews of Dr. Brown's 3-pack 8-ounce Standard BottlesCustomer Review: Perfect for a gassy fussy spitting up baby Summary: 5 Stars
We started with Avent, which I love, but my son (breastfed) was too gassy for them. Dr. Brown's changed that dramatically & quickly. To combat your fears from a few other reviews, they are pricey, but no more than any other truly good bottle, like Avent. As for the pieces, we have NO money & I only have 3 bottles which I wash constantly, set up a bowl, keep soapy water in it and a bottle brush and it's not hard to deal with at all. As for leaking, it's amazing to me that we're dealing with the most important little people in our lives but parents still won't READ INSTRUCTIONS! Dr. Brown's specifically recommends stirring, not shaking, to abolish leaking and to help your gassy baby, and they will leak if you leave the cap on when warming. As for jostling them or laying them sideways, they come with a cap that you can put in instead of the vent tube until your ready to fead, it makes a seal that won't leak. As for the complaint about level 2 & 3 nipples with 8oz bottles, go to Walmart, they carry a combo pack with 1 4oz, 2 8oz, 3 level 1 nipples and 2 level 2 for $14.99! Finally, I think I was *blessed* with one of the world's fussiest babies. He spent his first month's evenings crying incessantly, and trust me, it takes about 2 seconds to put together the 'many' (um-2 is many?) pieces of this bottle. I now do it while holding him most of the time, it's not a big deal! They're awesome! Get them for your gassy baby, it's worth it!
Customer Review: BEST BABY BOTTLES EVER !!!! Summary: 5 Stars
There's a reason so many people give these bottles 5 stars ! My baby girl had colic and gas from day one and was up all night crying until my mother heard about Dr. Brown's bottles and urged me to try them. The colic/gas stopped on the very first day I used them, words cannot describe that feeling. I do recommend skipping the purchase of the 4 oz. bottles and going staight to the 8 oz. ones to save some $$, just don't fill them all the way up until necessary, they sell extra nipples in various levels. And as for the other reviews complaining that they leak and are hard to clean and expensive: if you assemble them correctly and do not overfill, they won't leak, and the 2 extra parts are WELL WORTH the extra time to clean, but they are not "hard" to clean, I soak in hot soapy water and rinse, rarely do I have to use the brush thing, and they are really no more expensive than other bottles, well worth it and plus you can save by just using these instead of trying all the others. TRUST ME DR. BROWN'S ARE FABULOUS !! I have been using them for 2 months now and I am so happy I agreed to try them. Among the others that I had previously tried were the Avent and Playtex VentAire bottles but Dr. Brown's were the only "anti-colic" bottles that worked. Please do read and follow the directions though, i think some of the negative reviews are the results of not properly using the bottles and following instructions.
Customer Review: A great thing Summary: 5 Stars
I received 2 of these bottles as samples at a baby expo. The manufacturer explained how the concept works, and I thought that was pretty neat. Well, I put away these bottles along with all my other sample bottles and forgot about them. When my son was born, I was going to breastfeed, so I'd bought the Avent bottles because they're supposed to be so great for breastfeeding moms. Well, the breastfeeding lasted a week, and I put my son on formula. I used only the Avent bottles for his first 6 weeks of life. He was constantly fussy and gassy; he almost never spit up or had diarrhea, but he cried whenever he was awake. I thought it was his formula...my mother-in-law recommended I try some other bottle. I dug through my my bag of sample bottles and came up with the Dr. Brown's. I decided to give those a try, despite all the small pieces to wash. Well, so far I'm amazed. My baby drank 6 ounces this morning, didn't cry at all, and prompltly fell into a relaxed morning nap. He would pull off the Avent bottles and scream in pain and in hunger. He couldn't even finish 4 ounces because his stomach hurt so bad...as a result he was eating at all times of the day 1 and 2 ounces at the time. It was so frustrating! Since switching to these bottles, he's finished every 4 ounce feeding without a problem and even demanded more once he was done. I hope these bottles continue to do their job.
Customer Review: Had the rest - Dr.Brown's are the best! Summary: 5 Stars
I must agree that I tried the others - from cheap to expensive - before finally getting to the Dr.Brown bottles. I tried others that had the same claims - even a few gimmicks that would work in theory (VentAire). I have only found success with the Dr.Brown bottles. These bottles will sometimes leak - until you get the hang of them and keep the inner-tube empty and the collar on not-so-tight. Usually a gentle twist of the collar will empty the inner-tube and then you can twist it back on...but not too tight. The disks help stop leaks during travel, but you really just need to work on keeping them upright. Yes, more cleaning - and thank goodness for microwave sterilizers. I simply handwashed and then boiled for the first child, but love my microwave steamer now. The markings are fading on some of my bottles, but I believe that hand-washing has saved them a little. I compared to Avent (which were only slightly cheaper - but had lots of "transition to sippy cup" type of advantages (or breast pump straight to bottle). I still love my Doc Brown's and the complaints of scratched off markings applied to the other bottles, too. I personally preferred the wide-neck because they seem to fit my baby better, but several friends like the standard. We all agree that the Doc Brown's are lifesavers, though. I give a 3 pk of the 8 oz size at every baby shower!
Customer Review: Love these bottles Summary: 5 Stars
When we brought our daughter Riley home from the hospital, we bought every kind of bottle on the market to try to find one she could use. At the hospital, she was taking 4 ounces easily. But when we got her home, she struggled with the Playtex nursers I had gotten as shower gifts. She would suck and suck and just couldn't get the hang of it. So we went on a search for the perfect bottles and nipples. The Dr. Brown's bottles were the last ones we tried, out of desperation, because they were the most expensive and looked a little funny. We noticed the difference right away! Well worth the money and our little girl was finally eating happily without difficulty. When she was about a month old, we tried to change bottles due to a change in formula to Enfamil AR, which is a little thicker and was not fitting easily through the Level I nipples. After just one feeding with another bottle, we could see a big difference. Our daughter burped more often and more forcefully and spit up much more due to the air bubbles in the formula that she hadn't had to worry about with her Dr. Brown's. We switched to Level 2 nipples and returned to Dr. Brown's and I will never feed her with any other bottle again! Try them for yourself. You won't be disappointed. There are more parts to deal with and clean but it's well worth it for a happy, healthy baby.
