Customer Review: BUYER BEWARE: Contains toxic PVC! Do Not Buy!
Summary: 1 Stars

DO NOT BUY: Contains PVC!
These bottles contain PVC, dangerous, toxic and carinogenic. PVC is banned in Europe but not yet in the U.S. although most companies are removing it from children's products. This one still contains PVC.

Other Polycarbonate product examples to AVOID:
Bottles: Avent; Dr. Brown's; Evenflo (clear); First Years; Gerber (clear); Playtex Vent Aire; Sassy; TupperCare.
Sippy cups to AVOID: Gerber Suzy's Zoo & Sippy Snacker, Playtex First Sipster & Sparkling Sipster.

SAFER ALTERNATIVES: (Non-polycarbonate products)
Bottles: Evenflo glass or pastel polyethylene plastic; Gerber polypropylene opaque plastic; Medela breastmilk polypropylene storage bottles and polyethylene milk storage bags; disposable bottle systems with polyethylene plastic inserts (e.g., Playtex Nurser, Playtex Drop-Ins).

ALSO SAFER: "Sippy" cups made of polypropylene or polyethylene: Avent Magic Cup; Evenflo cups (inner lining); First Years Take & Toss; Gerber Color Change, Sport Fun Grip and Soft Starter; Playtex Sipster, Big Sipster & Quick Straw.

Note: Baby bottle nipples are usually made of silicone or latex rubber. Silicone nipples are lighter in color and are safer, as latex rubber nipples may leach carcinogenic nitrosamines.22

Please educate yourself on the dangers of PVC and safer alternatives, especially for children's products, including many toys. Pass along this information to all you know with children, 'google' PVC-free alternatives, and as consumers let's force companies to stop using this toxin.

Customer Review: Best bottles on the market
Summary: 5 Stars

When our daughter was a newborn and had alot of gas, these bottles were IT. It's true that washing the inside mechanism is an extra step but not a big deal honestly. It's just two parts that go together, really. The plastic tube and the rubber top to it. If your bottles take 5 minutes to wash, these might take 5 and a half minutes, that's how not a big deal they are to deal with. As long as you don't heat them up with the cover on, they don't leak. You can see the gas being expelled up the nipple and back into the bottle so you know you are doing a good thing for your baby. I'm a new mom, who was clueless at first. Now at 3.5 months I feel like an old (and tired) pro, but these bottles were one of the few items I felt positive enough about to take time to write a review. The nipples wear well and everything cleans well. I use mostly powdered formula and since these bottles don't really allow you to shake the formula up in them or they do leak a little out the top, I have found it's easiest for me to make my day's formula ahead of time the night before in a 32oz jug (Tupperware or even BRU has one). Then I wash the bottles, assemble the inside mechanisms and the put the nipples into the tops and leave them all in my bottle rack. Then when I need a bottle, I pour my formula from the jug into the bottle, warm it up (okay I use a microwave but we've discovered how many seconds to get the bottle the perfect temperature) and then slip in the insert and screw on the nipple. That way, everything is already made and shaken up and the bottle works perfectly. Just some suggestions on what worked for us. Again, HIGHLY recommended!

Customer Review: No resistance to sucking
Summary: 5 Stars

Here's the deal: there are lots of bottles out there that claim to reduce/eliminate gas from being ingested during feeding. Some work by letting air in from various places (avent-around the threads of the collar, playtex-through tiny perforations in the base), others work by not letting air in at all, but collapsing the container instead (playtex liners...etc). The problem with venting the air through the collar is that it ends up bubbling up and mixing with the formula. The problem with venting through the base is that it requires a bit of force to get the air to go through the perforations - so the bottle builds up negative pressure that resists your baby's sucking. This is the same issue with the collapsible liner bottles - the resistance becomes stronger as the baby finishes the bottle and collapses the liner.

Dr. Browns are the only ones that do not mix air with the formula and at the same time do not create any resistance to sucking. This is accomplished by maintaining an open, unobstructed airway to the formula. The tradeoff here is that the bottle will leak if inverted for any period of time or shaken vigorously. I'd say this is a small inconvenience. I guess that the end of the day you don't buy these purely for convenience - you buy them because they're the best for your baby's feeding. Our child was very colicy during her first 3 months. We tried avent, playtex, and others. We got a few Dr browns free at a baby show, and have purchased and used them exclusively since.

ps: We were first skeptical with all the parts, but these all wash easily with some creative placement in the dishwasher.

Customer Review: Worth the extra money
Summary: 5 Stars

I received my first set of these bottles as a shower gift, even though I registered for a different brand. I had picked the other brand mainly because the Dr. Brown's bottles were more expensive and the other bottles were also supposed to reduce air intake. When we started feeding her via bottle, we were just using the bottles that we had registered for, and occasionally used a plain, ordinary bottle. And while my daughter did much better on the other brand than on plain bottles, we got so frustrated with the fact that she was spitting up large amounts 3-4 times after she ate. We were changing her clothes because they were soiled after every two to three feedings.

I had never opened the 3 pack of Dr. Brown's bottles that we had received because I had every intention of exchanging them for something else. I'm glad I didn't. In frustration one night, I opened the pack up and used one of the bottles to feed my daughter. She did still spit up after using one of these bottles, but not nearly as much and she didn't seem to be nearly as uncomfortable. So, I continued to use them and I have been very impressed. She spits up very little now as long as I use these bottles. One day, I hadn't had a chance to get all of the Dr. Brown's bottles washed, so I fed her using the other brand of bottles. She seemed to be constantly spitting up all day. The next day, I went back to the Dr. Brown's bottles and the spitting up nearly ceased.

So, to put it point-blank, if you have spit-up problems, these bottles are well worth the extra money.

Customer Review: This is a wonderful product
Summary: 5 Stars

I have to say I would recommend this bottle to anyone. My daughter was very congested & got an ear infection at 3 weeks of age. After starting her medicine she started getting fussy and a little colic. She also used to get the hiccups at every feeding and would spit up an average of twice daily.
I had read about Dr. Brown's in several baby magazines and decided to give them a try after three days of her crying with gas. She slept through the night, a total of 6 1/2 hours the first night. She is now spitting up less, if at all and only gets the hiccups occasionally.

Dr. Brown's may be more "complicated" to clean, as others have stated, but that should be the least of your worries. If your child feels better while eating and it solves your colic problem (even a little bit), it will make you feel better too.

I have three friends that are expecting and I am going to give them a starter kit as part of their baby shower gifts. Again, I would highly recommend their products to everyone (in fact, I already have!).

Earlier this afternoon I was in a hair salon for children and had to feed my 7 week old. Another mother in the salon approached me stating she had switched to Dr. Brown's for her daughter when she started with colic. She also felt this product was wonderful. Many others must feel the same way; everytime I go into the store I always look on the shelf for this product and see that they are 9 times out of 10 the most sold product in the bottle feeding area!!!
