Baby Products Reviews of Dr. Brown's 3-pack 8-ounce Standard BottlesCustomer Review: Recommend these bottles than the wide-neck set Summary: 5 Stars
I love the Dr. Brown bottles. I just want to recommend you to get the regular bottle rather than the wide neck one. I am very satisfied with the 4oz bottles. When we upsized to 8oz ones, we got the wide-neck bottles in thinking that they would be cleaned better in dishwasher than the standard shape. But I found my son has a hard time with the wide-neck's nipple. I guess some baby may like the very long nipple shape. But my son found it confusing because he tried to put the whole thing in his mouth as he did to other bottles, but his mouth was too small for the big part. (When we tried Avent's bottle earlier, he had no problem with it. But there are bubbles with Avent's bottle. So I don't recommend Avent.) Therefore, it would take him a longer time to drink the milk with the wide neck bottle than from the standard shaped one. The other reason I recommend the standard shape is because it is "standard" shaped, you can use other brand's accessories on them directly. For example, I attached my Medela breast pump directly on the Dr. Brown bottle to wash one fewer bottle. I also found a more convenient way to mix formular rather than using the little plastic piece came along in the package --When I was released from the hospital, I got some Similac breastmilk storage bottle. I simply use those Similac bottle cap for the standard-shaped Dr. Brown bottle to make my formula. I lost all these "perks" with the wide-neck set. For the above reasons, I quickly abandoned the wide-neck set, and purchased another set of the standard shaped 8oz bottle, and am still very happy with those bottles, and would recommend those with no hesitation. (By the way, if your baby refused to take bottles all of a sudden. It may not be because of the bottle. I later found out that my son simply prefers breastmilk better than formula. And it did not help when I tried all the other bottles or nipples. After a couple of trying days, he went back to take Dr. Brown bottles with no problems.)
Customer Review: Absolutely worth the price and extra time! Summary: 5 Stars
I will never use any other type of bottle again! When my son was three weeks old, I stopped breastfeeding because of thrush and started with Avent bottles. He was constantly crying whenever awake, never napped during the day, and slept through the night. He also never seemed satisfied with the amount of formula, by seven weeks old he was taking 7 oz! Way too much! I was puzzled and the dr. said it was colic and wanted to switch to soy. I saw info about dr. brown's bottles on the internet and switched to try it out since my son didn't have any other sensitivity symptoms. There was a drastic difference with the very first feeding and he was satisfied with 5 oz, happy, calm, and fell asleep. My son is now 8 months old and he has never even run a fever, let alone have an ear infection, and has slept through the night since eight weeks old. The price was the same as the Avent bottles. Yes, there is extra time washing bottles but it is a choice--15 extra minutes a day washing the extra parts or many hours trying to calm a screaming baby, on the phone with doctor and relatives trying to figure out what's wrong, buying Mylicon drops, sleepless nights....etc. Here's what I do...rinse out bottles right after use and keep them and the parts in a big sudsy bowl. wash the bottles, then the little parts. I still use my Avent sterilizer--the doc brown's fit just fine--I figure why mess with success even though you "don't need to sterilize after three months". Run the bottles in the sterilizer while washing the little parts and then run the little parts in the sterilizer and you're done in about 30 minutes total. Get a few extra bottles if you don't want to wash every night. Knock on wood, my baby hasn't ever had a cold or run a fever and is very healthy and happy. The bottles are fabulous! I've given them to friends as gifts and will only use them from the beginning next time.

I heard about these bottles from a lady at my hisband's work. She swore by these bottles and I couldn't help but think the lady was nutz! Boy was I wrong! She gave us a set at our baby shower and thank god she did. At three weeks my milk started to dry up leaving our son very unhappy with us. At two in the morning we washed the bottles and gave him his first bottle, no problems; burped as soon as we sat him upright no patting required!. He took the bottle, ate and slept for four strait hours! Heaven after two days of fussy baby 24/7. We had only three bottles at the time and they soon were all dirty. We took the easy way and used a regular bottle. The same nipple, same flow, same formula, ect. The bottle was all over him and me. Brady is the type of baby that you DON'T wake up once he is asleep. I have to change him everytime I used a bottle other than Dr. Brown's. The bottle once again saved us two weeks later when we switched formula and it caused constipation issues with him. We were able to keep the gas to a minimum while he worked the bad formula out of his system. He would fuss more if we used another bottle. I tried several brands of bottles to make sure we had found the right brand and can say I'm 100% confident in the bottles. We find it very easy to wash the bottles by hand or in the dishwasher. There is also a type of dishwasher organizer that has a keeper on the side for straws like inside the Dr. Brown's bottles. They are worth the money and extra effort- not that there is much more effort required to clean them- they come with thier own pipe cleaner for the straws! The bottles are also very durable- I had two full bottles in the bottom of a bag toted all day- dropped a couple times really hard on the floor- and they leaked only a little bit of water!
Customer Review: Best Bottles Around! Forget the Rest! Summary: 5 Stars
When my son was born, we tried sampling bottles from several different manufacturers, including Evenflo, Triflow, Avent, etc. Dr Brown's bottles really are the best in preventing gas, bottle leakage, and flow problems. We ended up throwing all other bottles away. I had read other reviews about the small parts being difficult to wash, but I don't really have a problem with that. We don't have a dishwasher and I end up hand washing everything. Each set of bottles comes with a tiny brush for getting into the small spaces for the inner parts to the bottles; and a regular bottle brush works fine with the bottles themselves. I can wash and fill 9 bottles in under 20 minutes (perfect timing when putting my son down for a nap). As to some reviewers complaints about leakage, it's true that if the inner tube gets full sometimes the milk can leak out the top - but this has only happened rarely and I've found that if I unscrew the cap and pull out the inner tube then put it back in, the problem is resolved. The adjustment takes less than a minute and like I said, I've only had it happen once or twice. Otherwise the bottles, nipples and all the parts are really durable - especially the nipples. When we first bought the bottles, we bought all these replacement nipples in level 1 and had to return them because we never needed them. So, my only suggestions are
1. hold off on buying extra nipples to see if you really need them (or at least don't open the package until you need to) and
2. to bypass getting 4 oz bottles and go right for the 8 oz bottles. We started off with the 4 oz bottles and now, at 3 months old, our son is already up to 6 oz at a feeding. So, we had to pack away the 4oz bottles and go out and buy a bunch of the larger size.
Customer Review: Get the 8oz bottles only. Summary: 5 Stars
For the first few days of my son's birth, we had the wide-neck Avent bottles which leaked, the nipples gave him suction blisters on the lips, he needed extensive burping and he would find it difficult to suck against the negative-pressure that builds up in those bottle. Dr Brown's bottles solved all these issues.
I have six bottles and it takes me less than 20 minutes to wash them by hand. It takes some getting used to washing the small parts, but it's worth the extra effort. The small brush which comes with the starter kit is essential to clean the small parts. A regular bottle brush is fine for the bottles themselves. Save yourself the money and go straight for the 8oz bottles. The starter kit comes with Level-1 nipples. You will likely need to graduate your baby to Level-2 niplles at 3-months of age and Level-3 nipples at 6-months of age. Y-cut nipples are also available for thicker liquids (cereal mixed in milk).
If you leave expressed breast-milk in these bottles in the refigerator, the fat tends to stick to the vent (just as a FYI). Use the travel-discs when transporting milk and there will be no leaks. My baby hardly needs burping with these bottles, they are that great (he doesn't have reflux by the way). The caps snap on loudly which is the only con I can think of.
I highly recommend these bottles. I've suggested these bottles to two of my friends whose babies have refulx and they have seen an improvement. Try some other websites, which have better prices and offer the 9-pack variety. If you're paying shipping, might as well get some extra small brushes, you'll need them. One lasts for about 6-8 weeks.
