Baby Products Reviews of Dr. Brown's 3 Pack BPA Free Polypropylene Bottle, 8 oz

Customer Review: Fantastic Bottles
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently purchased these bottles as a last resort trying to help my 3month old son's issue with spit-up due to reflux. I can only say that I LOVE THESE BOTTLES. I used Avent bottles for my first son and they were fine apart from some leaking but he had no reflux issues. For my second son, I tried Avent & Playtex and then finally moved on to Dr. Browns and they have really made a difference. His spit-up has reduced incredibly, it's not completely gone but the bottles can only do so much for reflux and they have certainly helped in our case. The concept behind this bottle is very smart as the air entering the bottle does not mix with the milk and therefore reduces the air which is swallowed by baby. My son has no issue taking milk from them at all, the nipple is smaller than the playtex bottles which I think helps also. They do require a little more time for cleaning as you need to brush the valves etc but it's so worth it. I can fit 4 bottles with all their parts into the Avent sterilizer no problem. I have no leaking issues at all. I really can't say enough good things about these bottles. If you're having spit-up issues or not, I think they are well worth a try. I would highly recommend these bottles.

Customer Review: No Leaks or Drools
Summary: 5 Stars

We switched to Dr. Brown's BPA free bottles after using the Playtex VentAir bottles for 5 1/2 months with our newborn. The Playtex VentAir worked well enough until about 4 months when the baby started to extensively drool while feeding to the point where 1/3 of the milk would end up on the baby.

As an engineer, I never did like the way the Playtex VentAir vented from the bottom. To vent, you can't tighten the bottom too much. But that would lead to leaks from the bottom. So we switched to Dr. Brown's to see if we can eliminate the drooling while feeding. Sure enough, the venting mechanism works much better and the baby no longer drools while feeding!

To prevent leaks, you have to strictly adhere to the maximum fill line (3/4 of the bottle). Going above the fill line will guarantee leaks because too much milk would enter the venting tube. To shake the bottle for mixing, you have to inserts the flat plastic disc inside the cap between the nipple and the venting seal.

Since milk is a great medium for bacteria growth, we usually soak the bottles (disassembled) in a soap bath for at least an hour and then just rinse everything in cold water.

Customer Review: Stopped fussiness
Summary: 4 Stars

My friend who is a pediatrician told me to use Dr. brown's bottles only and even gave me some after her youngest one stopped using it. I also had acquired lot of breast milk storage bottles so out of convenience I would a lot of times just feed out of them. One of my twins was colicky. After few weeks of washing the components of dr. b's I decided to just not use the vent and tube to make things easier, still not believing my friend.

Only after two days I had to reassess. Both my two month old twins were miserable with gas and I was miserable with life. People who were coming to visit felt so sorry for me before they ran out. I realized that it was a bad switch and started using Dr. Browns bottles with all it's components and the kids have never been so miserable since. I ordered another 6 bottles so now i have over a dz. So I am not constantly washing them.

It looses a star because on my older bottles the blue marking for measurement and logo is wearing off and if not careful sometimes I find blue flakes in the milk too. The newer bottles have raised marking and doesn't have this issue. I had contacted Handicraft but they never responded.

Customer Review: it's just ok..but they LEAK!!
Summary: 3 Stars

I fell into the hype of getting these bottles when I had my second child, I used avent with my first and it was great. But my sweet dear husband convinced me to by the dr. browns bc they cause no gas and reflux (vomiting). Ok my son did not have gas or spit up, great, but I have to say that they are a hassle to clean ( to many parts) and THEY LEAK!! I really was disappointed bc that meant more time cleaning out baby bags and milk off the floor from bottles being thrown and left there. To solve the problem I would just put the storage caps on them while we traveled. My husband is a fan of these bottles that he wanted to really torture our friends by convincing them to get it (he is such the salesman). NOW, here I am about to have my third child and he has once again coerced me into buying these bottles bc they are the BPA brand (more hype), not very happy :(.
We have all the dr. brown products to the formula mixer (best ever). When my son was off formula I used it to make lemonade (don't judge lol). Bottles I wouldn't recommend, but I hope I have a better experience this time around.

Customer Review: Made my son sick!
Summary: 1 Stars

I've given these bottles so many chances on different occasions. My son vomits after drinking out of these bottles. A little history on him, he's been fairly sick because of different things. First it was my breast milk (had to give up that), then it was normal formula, and he was put on soy formula. He was still throwing up a lot after every feeding and I just couldn't figure out what it was. I had been using these bottles for a long time to feed him with because they were suppose to be the better ones on the market. I had a friend of mine offer different bottles if I wanted to try some out. I first tried the Playtex Drop-ins and it immediately got better with the first feeding, but it still wasn't the best. I then tried The First Years Soothie bottle and it did the trick. I figured that it would make it worse because it was letting the air in, but he now has minimal spit up every time he eats.

He's doing much better and gaining weight again, but I definitely wouldn't recommend these bottles.

This is my second kid, the first was only breastfed for 11 months.
