Baby Products Reviews of Dr. Brown's 3 Pack BPA Free Polypropylene Bottle, 8 oz

Customer Review: They only leak if you don't know what your doing!
Summary: 4 Stars

I am changing my review from 1 star to 4 stars as I believe the problem was me not the bottles. The leaking that keeps happening seems to be caused by two things 1. operator error and 2. stupid man syndrome.

As a guy I kept overfilling these and it seems that the bottles needs to have a certain amount of air in them in order to properly work. Secondly I kept holding my finger over the nipple and turning it over to check for leaks and when you do this the air can't escape so it leaks out of the side of the cap.

The secondary effect of me "checking for leaks" would be that I would keep tightening the top untrill finally I would end up stripping them.

I still agree that there are too many parts although its not terrible as they are only 5 pieces. (nipple, cap nut, air tube and a rubber air washer.

I felt complied to reuse these after buying regular bottles at Walmart and yes they did produce more gas plus when the baby would stop sucking on them the sound from the sudden intake of air would startle him.

My bad I should probably learn to read the directions

but hey, I'm a guy we don't need no stinkin directions!

My wife has a hard on for this company, not sure why because she breast feeds wen she is home and I am the one who has to deal with these crappy bottles.

As a guy I want something that is simple and works. When you turn these uopside down to feed the baby they start to leak from the thread that holds the cap on. I tend to try tightening them some more and the leak continues eventually it gets to the point where I end up just stripping the thread from over-tightening.

So she ordered a 3pk of these last week, they came yesterday and as sooon as I saw them I was like WTF? I couldn't believe she ordered the same ones again but I said oh well and tried them again.

Well yeah even the brand new ones leak all over the place. So I asked her to get different ones at Walmart when she does the grocery shopping this weekend and she said "I'll see if they have that brand I really like them" and I swear to god if she was standing in front of me I would have thrown the box at her!

Customer Review: A mother's best friend.
Summary: 5 Stars

When I was pregnant I went through the usual decisions every mom goes through, what diapers, what formula, what bottles? It's all so confusing and there's so many choices. I went to a baby expo and got a free Dr. Brown's bottle there. It seemed rather strange and a little complicated, but the literature that came with it explained the concept really well and after testing it out on my own before the baby (yes, it was absurd, but I really wanted to make the best decision!) I saw how well it worked compared to all the other bottles that claimed to do the same things. It really did solve all the problems commonly found in baby bottles...no collapsed nipples, no bubbles, even flow. So, I went out and bought a set of them. After my son was born, it was the only bottle I ever used with him. He hardly ever even had to burp and he NEVER had painful gas!! The internal components had seemed complicated and hard to clean at first glance, but really weren't. When using a dishwasher, you don't have to give it a second thought, just pop them in one of those little baskets you can get for baby items in your dishwasher and it comes out clean as a whistle! If you're hand washing them, you really don't have much extra to do, other than running the little bottle brush through the vents and wash the rest as usual. It's worth every single second. (and it's only a few extra seconds) These bottles are my go to items for baby gifts, and every mom I give them to tell me how great they are!
The only thing I have to warn you about is related to air travel. I thought I was being so smart by prefilling them with water so while on the plane I'd save time by having the water already measured. I didn't think about what would happen with the siphon type system and changes in air pressure. It wasn't until I found my feet in a puddle of water that it dawned on me. A nice flight attendant provided me with more water and I learned that if you want to prefill your bottles you need to leave out the internal siphon part so the water isn't drawn up it when the cabin pressure changes. Ooopsy!
End statement: These bottles are amazing, your baby will thank you and you'll thank yourself when you're not up at 3am trying to calm your baby due to a tummy full of gas.

Customer Review: I tried others, this is the best
Summary: 5 Stars

Having had a colicy first child, I chose to try the Dr. Brown's bottles in additional to several other types & brands. I've ended up storing all the others and using the Dr. Brown's exclusively.

After reading countless reviews, I've bought and tried several other types/brands. All bottles other than the Dr. Browns created suction. The nipples would collapse, resulting in leaks and a frustrated, gassy baby. I would have to remove the bottle from his mouth to get the air (and bubbles)to go back into the bottle so he could start sucking again. The gas in his belly would last hours-making him uncomfortable and disrupting his sleep. (equals tired, cranky Mommy)

The Dr. Brown's were the only bottles that I didn't have that problem with. My son is able to feed continuously and comfortably with a consistent flow and no air bubbles. Our feedings are cleaner, relaxing, and more comfortable.

Other reviews have sited a "con" as having more bottle parts to wash. I thought that would be tedious, but gave the Dr. Brown's a try anyway. Thus far, it has NOT been an issue. ANY bottle you use will have atleast 3 parts to wash (bottle, collar, nip) the Dr. Brown's have an additional 2 parts (resevoir tube, valve). I am happy to spend an extra minute at the sink, rather than countless hours with a fussy baby. The trade-off is a no brainer.

The ONLY issue that I've had with the Dr. Brown's is that the stage 1 nips still flowed too fast for my newborn. I am using the Playtex Air Vent Stage 1 nips instead. I have not tried the Br. Brown' premie nips, but suspect they'd work just as well. FYI-the Dr. Brown's are slightly taller than other bottles when they have the cap on. Keep that in mind if you're buying a bottle cooler for travel.

Skip the smaller 4oz bottles and go for all 8oz. Buy a soft bottle brush that won't scratch the plastic bottles. Again, I've tried several, but like the Avent brush with travel case. It seems soft, will last and doesn't spray me with water ever time I remove it from the bottle.

Amazon seems to have the best price on Dr. Brown's.
Happy Feeding:)

Customer Review: Wonderful Bottles
Summary: 5 Stars

These are hands down the best bottles we've ever owned. They're great for a number of reasons:

1) The design prevents the baby from taking in extra air, cutting down on gas and burping, which in turn cut down on spit-ups.

2) Completely BPA free

3) Well made, high quality plastic. They're firm but not inflexible, shatter proof, and easy to hold.

4) Great heat transfer for heating up cold bottles (we heat them using hot water and a glass that is a bit wider in circumference than the bottle. Just pour in about half a glass of hot water, put in the bottle, let it sit for a minute or two and you're ready to go. No mess, and if you want the bottle a bit warmer, just repeat with a bit more hot water).

5) Exchangeable nipples--you can keep the bottle but swap out the nipple as your baby grows

A few thoughts:

Those complaining that they are made from too many parts are missing the point: the bottles have the additional parts to cut down on unwanted air intake as your baby drinks their milk. That means that your baby has fewer spit ups. I'll happily wash a few more bottle parts to save having to wash the baby, the floor, or myself (wherever his spit-ups land). It's a time saver in the long run. Bottles are easily washed. Babies and clothing not so much.

To those who have experienced leaks: It's likely that either you have not installed the rubber stopper correctly, or that you have a defective stopper. In the first instance, check to make sure your stopper is lined up and inserted according to the instructions. If you're still having leaks, send the bottle(s) back and get replacements. Amazon will happily send you a new one, and if it's outside their window, contact Dr. Brown directly.

Conclusions:

These are a must buy if you want high quality plastic bottles. We've been more than happy with them.

Customer Review: Safe Plastic; Natural Flow; Easy to use/clean...
Summary: 5 Stars

Yes, easy to use and clean. I know it has several parts but if you wash it right after the baby finished her bottle, you simply can rinse it in a warm/hot water and it's clean! If you don't wash it right away it's ok, use some warm/hot water, soap (I buy Planet or other mild soaps) and there are 3 holes in the vent part, brush them with a small brush 1-2 times.. is really easy especially after you do it a couple of times.

The bottle is pretty thick but light. It seems strong and durable.

Baby drinks with no interrupts. I like the natural flow feature of this bottle. If you use just nipple and bottle of other brand with no vent, it creates vacuum and your baby often stops many many times. I did not like that as she got tired faster and never finished her bottle and had to snack more often...

The nipple is soft and it is standard. I like that it is soft breast like (so many other nipple seem so thick). We talked to 3 lactation consultants and they recommended Playtex Drop Ins (wide neck bottles) or in our case, our baby would only drink from Standard nipple/bottle, they always recommended Dr. Browns. So if these are the only 2 bottles I will buy for my children.

I tried every bottle and nipple out there except Avent and Born Free (our lactation consultants really did not recommend them); mixed different bottles with nipples, inserted vent from Dr. Browns into different bottle when they didn't have the safe bottles yet and I was very happy to see these new Dr. browns bottles that are safe for my child.

And one more thing. When we used OTHER bottles they were somewhat hard to wash. Bottles inside would be sticky and we had to brush them for a long time and rinse really well before they felt clean. I never had this problem with Dr. Browns bottles.
