I absolutely love this diaper system. After reading all of the terrible reviews about the new biodegradable refill bags, I took some of the reviewers advice and called back to the parent company regal-lager. They still have the old diaper refills available. The customer service rep told me that since they have had so many negative comments on the new bags-they have decided to bring the old ones back. They have them in stock but they are not available through retailers. You have to call and order them but they are not going to be discontinued-they will always have them available!! I just called the manufacturer, and was told that they are bringing back the original bags in about one month (which would be mid-August 2009)!! Apparently, they got a ton of complaints about the new biodegradable bags. (I'm all for the environment and having things be biodegradable, but effectiveness is key.)12/09 update: the old, non-biodegradable bags are back! Unfortunately, they still seem smaller (i.e. shorter) than the original bags, so they have to be changed more often.
I don't notice any problems with smell now though.

I too have only experienced the biodegradable bags. They work great - it's an ingenious system. But I don't think they SHOULD mask the smell. The toilet is where poop should go, folks. WHEN WE FLUSH THE MAJORITY OF THE POOP our diaper pail never stinks. Try this method before throwing yet another thing into the landfill.
Giving the bag even a bit of a chance of biodegrading DOES MATTER. Babies are resource intensive in every way (esp diapers), so every little bit we do in terms of the environment counts.

I am disappointed with the new bags as well. The odor control is definitely not as good as the original bags, and it is a pain to have to keep reordering with only 2 refills per box instead of the original 3 per box. Also, the Diaper Dekor container I use has broken doors. One of the flip doors broke after about 1 year and now the second one has broken. The hinges don't work to keep the doors closed. I used to be happy with this system but now I cannot recommend. Bring back the old bags!Customer Review: A great product brought to ruin & shame!

The Diaper Dekor used to be the perfect diaper pail, easy to fill, easy to empty and best of all NO SMELL. The new liners do not keep out the smell. Leave one pee diaper in there for two days and your eyes will water. This is the first review I have ever written, but I feel compelled to warn people away from this product. (The previous product was on my "must have" list for all new parents.) Oh Prince Lionheart, you have lost a loyal customer. I am about to try the new Diaper Genie.
