I really like this product. I secures safely to the bed and fits very snuggly. We have a pillow top mattress that is really high on our twin bed and this rail is a good 12 inches over the mattress. I feel safe sleeping my little one in the bed with this rail. There are no gaps and no way she could slide between the rail and the mattress.
The problem that I have with this rail is that it is so high that when you fold it down to get it out of the way, it will not lay flat against the bed because it is higher than the distance from the mattress to the ground. So, it has to stay up all the time or people will trip on it or little ones will try to use it as a slide.

It seems most of these types of bed rails have instructions discouraging you from using it with a baby; they are supposed to be for the two year old moving out of a crib and into a twin bed. However, we are using it with a baby and it works just fine. I was able to install it on our queen-size bed alone. Take the time to get the strap just right. I like the fact that it folds down to make the bed and so on. Our son has slept with us from the beginning and I like knowing he isn't going to fall out. We used a crib with our other children in a "side car" position (right up next to the bed with the side down) but our bedroom just looked so cluttered. This is a good product, but the instructions are not well written, so I got about 1/2 way through and realized I'd set it up backwards and had to start over. What should have taken 20 minutes to assemble wound up taking 30-40. But now that it's up, it's great and my son does not fall out of bed anymore! He can also climb around it to get on or off the bed when he's awake and he needs to get out, so he's not trapped.
My one other complaint is that, my mattress and box spring must not be the max height, because it doesn't fold completely down (only about 90%) when I try to do so. That said, it's not a big problem, I can still change the sheets easily, etc.

Very dissapointed that advertising and listing for this product did not state NOT FOR USE ON TODDLER BED, after I received item, this was clearly stated on outside of box. It is very time consuming to re-box a product and ship it back. What a hassle..could have been avoided had it been advertised properly. Thus, I did not assemble the product as it is not appropriate for my daughter's toddler bed. I am required to submit a rating in order to submit review, therefore rating it with a one, which is unfortunate, as the listing error is not the fault of the maufacturer but the party responsible for specifying and listing the product. Got this rail for our 2 year old's full size bed. It is sturdy and while we don't encourage her to push on it, we have confidence that it will not break, especially with the extra bar in place. The locking mechanism is easy to use and lowering the rail is simple and smooth. We don't see that it would be any better to have the rail slide under the mattress - seems we probably wouldn't do that very often. The only downside is that the mesh got a small hole in it rather quickly. Not sure how it happened, but we would have liked a mesh that was a bit more tear resistant. Have to see how that holds up, but this rail has served us well so far.
