Baby Products Reviews of DEX Products Electric Baby Food ProcessorCustomer Review: Good processer for the job Summary: 5 Stars
I like this little processor for mixing up small quantities of food. True, it doesn't hold a ton, but I does what I bought it for - I make a few days worth at a time.
- Holds about 8 oz of food comfortably at a time (so it mixes well, etc)
- I think this is a good size to make fresh food and to try new foods (without making a bunch if it's not a hit!)
- Pretty easy to clean
- Just 4 parts, so easy to assemble and use
- It's not super heavy duty, so I do chop things up a good amount before putting them in there
All in all, I think it's worth it. I didn't have a regular food processor and for me a blender just didn't work quite right and I thought it was harder to get the food mixed.
Some hints I also found when investigating making baby food are:
- After mixing if you want to freeze any, just use ice cube trays. Each cube is about 1 oz and once they're frozen, pop them out and put in a zip-loc for storage.
- If you're just getting started, I thought this website was useful and had good ideas - - wholesomebabyfood
Good luck!
Customer Review: Has difficult time with even basic tasks Summary: 1 Stars
I got this because the reviews on Amazon were fairly good and frankly there is not much choice of baby blenders on the market.
I tried it with pears, apples, and carrots and was very disappointed in the performance of this blender. First of all, it does not puree food. The most it can do is chop it into pieces not much finer than you would get with manual chopping. Even more frustrating, after the first round of chopping, the food gets stuck on the sides of the blender and away from the blade. So if you want to continue, you must open it and move the food back down into the center. Either that, or whack the sides hard with your hand to knock it back down. I think the reasons for this are the shape of the blending cup does not allow food to fall back into the center of the blade, as well as a poor blade design.
Frankly, too much hand-holding and too little blending for a busy parent who needs something quick and efficient to feed baby. I am going to try the Magic Bullet instead, of which I saw a generic version on eBay for around $30.
Customer Review: Not for beginners! Summary: 1 Stars
Another review mentioned checking out wholesomebabyfood.com -- if it weren't for this website, I'd be returning my Dex food processor right now. I've spoken to the company directly and they can't offer any guidance to make food smoother or better tasting for my baby.
I have four complaints: one, the directions it comes with are useless -- again, go to whoesomebabyfood to learn how to prepare and cook the food. Two, there are chipped spots in the plastic bowl, and I've used it less than 10 times. Three, the blade has all sorts of nooks and crannies for food to hide in, so even the dishwasher doesn't clean it well. And four, my baby won't eat even his favorite foods when I prepare them myself (he'll scarf down jarred carrots, but pureed with the Dex processor? the few bites I made him eat got vomited up fifteen minutes later.)
I'm giving it two more tries with the actual helpful directions from the above website; after that I'm going to try to get my money back (Dex won't give refunds unless there's a mechanical defect).
Customer Review: Great for My Child (with Cerebral Palsy) Summary: 5 Stars
My daughter is 17 months old and has Cerebral Palsy. She has difficulty eating and the Dex Baby Food Processor has allowed us to provide a tastier variety of foods that she loves. My daughter enjoys fruit baby food from a jar but won't eat veggies or meat from a jar because of its bland taste and thick texture. The food processor allows us to blend our meals into smooth portions for her. Some of her favorites meals include chicken and dumplings, spagetti with meat sauce, mixed veggies and chicken teriyaki noodles. I can't say enough good things about how much this processor has helped my daughter eat a balanced diet. THANKS!
UPDATE: My daughter is now 3 1/2 years old. We continue to use the DEX Baby Food Processor daily. We cannot say enough good things about it-- it is so easy to use and we quickly transform our tasty chunky meals into tasty smooth meals for her. It has never failed us and the blade has never needed to be sharpened. It is our number one kitchen tool! We highly recommned it!!! July 5, 2008
Customer Review: Buy a nice blender instead Summary: 2 Stars
I purchased this product and I believed it to be the best invention for making baby food. Then I noticed when I was making carrots that the plastic became discolored and all the scratches became apparent--not to mention it didn't puree as much as I wanted. After about 3 uses of making baby food the processor looked like I had been using it a year. Then on top of that the motor is very small and can't be used very long before it needs to cool off. Waste of time when making a month's supply of baby food! That's another thing, if you plan on making large amounts of baby food, forget it because you will be there for hours! I think it took me 3 hours to make 2 weeks of food.So I took mine back, paid $15 extra to get a VERY nice blender (much more practical since the whole family can use it) and it works 10 times better and can make three times the food the baby food processor does. I made 3 1/2 weeks supply in 2 hours. If this product cost between $9.99-11.99 then maybe but for $19.99 no way---extremely overpriced. Go get a blender.
