Baby Products Reviews of Cloud b Twilight Constellation Night Light, TurtleCustomer Review: Still Loved After Five Years Summary: 5 Stars
I was given this turtle upon the birth of my daughter in 2005. I used it as a nursing light, and then later as a night light for her. As she grew older, part of our night time ritual was to ensure the turtle was turned on. Once she was old enough for crib toys I felt comfortable having her sleep with it. It has no sharp edges, or pieces that can come off. Then my son was born, and the turtle was part of his early days too. Now at five and three my children, who still share a room, insist upon the turtle being turned on as part of going to sleep. One really nice thing about the light is that it provides a known, safe, soothing touch stone for when they sleep in unknown places such as hotel rooms, or Pop Pop's new house. It makes night time in such places less scary.
The batteries last a perfectly long time. The light bulbs haven't burned out after five years of virtually nightly use. The construction quality is good. Ours has had a fair amount of abuse, and still looks great. The amber light, as others have commented, is faint. However, it works fine in a very dark room. Even if the amber stars don't show on the ceiling brightly, the shell color is nice.
I have never been able to pick out many constellations, but no matter. I love laying with my kids, looking at the cheerful stars while they fall gently asleep next to the charming, peaceful turtle.
Customer Review: Love this nighlight! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this turtle for my two year old who wanted to have a nightlight, but traditional lights seemed to be too bright, which just encouraged him to play in his room after "lights out". This one gives him the chance to lay in his bed and fall asleep. The three different colors are different intensities, so I put it on the amber and he falls asleep faster, blue and green are more fun to look at. Overall a great purchase, and I'm recommending it to my friends. EDITED in early February: I loveED this turtle nightlight when it was working. I have contacted the company twice with no response regarding the fact that this turtle stopped working after only one month of use. Yes, I tried to change the batteries...twice. It could very well be that the light source died, but after only one month? This was not accessible by my two year old, so I know that it wasn't stepped on, etc. If it's just the one that is defective, then I would still recommend it, because I am asking for a replacement. However, if I don't hear back from the company Polka Dot Whale, I would recommend purchasing it from another vendor, as they have very poor customer service, and have not even acknowledged my emails (which were sent through Amazon, so I know got to them.)...disappointing product, but mostly disappointing customer service. If I could change the amount of stars, I would.
Customer Review: Great baby gift idea Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered this for myself as I always wanted to sleep under the stars ;o) It works great...obviously not exactly like the real thing, but very soothing and relaxing. My cats enjoy watching them, too...
We're expecting a new grandchild in a few months and I'm going to order one for him..
Someone posted that the amber colored lights don't show up on the celing, but I've found that they show up fine on my ceiling. In fact, it's my favorite color... Also, someone complained that it needs to be set in the middle of the room on a high piece of furniture, but who has furniture in the middle of the room... I set this on top of the tv in the corner of the room and and it hits 3/4 of the ceiling.. I would think if this was set in a baby's crib, it'd be perfect. The battery compartment is screwed shut, so little ones won't be able to get to them. The turtle shell is hard, but the head and legs are very plush..
We have a sunroom with an excercise pool in it, only the windows are glazed rather than clear, so I can't see the stars in the evening. I'll probably move this out to the sunroom once spring gets here as I take a swim in the evenings and this would make a very nice atmosphere out there.
It really is a cute product and looks to be very well made! Wish they'd been around when my children were little.
Customer Review: Overpriced, disappointed in quality Summary: 1 Stars
For what I paid, I'm really disappointed.
PROS
-light weight, no cords, can be placed anywhere with ease
-great idea for a night light
-enchanting when its placed just right (in middle of a small room set 5-6 feet up)
-self timer off at 45 minutes
CONS
-too expensive for the quality of the item
-cheaply made, and you cannot replace the light inside once the bulbs burn out (3 separate amber, blue and green bulbs - NOT led so they won't last too long)
-the constellations are very difficult to make out (I love astronomy and can identify stars very easily in the night sky) - these are ambiguous and badly placed and sized
-only some of the stars (a few directly above the turtle) show up on the wall as 'star' shaped - the other half look like Star Trek Federation symbols, those triangular things, or like blobs
-impractical to place - if you place it on furniture along the walls of a room ie. on the dresser or on top of a shelf, you get a cluster of tiny stars against the nearby wall and loose fuzzy big stars on half the ceiling, and none on the other wall (in a room 12x14)
Save your money and get some other machine / light to make constellations. I may try to get my money back based on the poor quality. A shame since its such a great idea.
Customer Review: She is almost three and she still loves it! Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this when she was born and she is going to be 3 now and she loves it. Every night, she goes to sleep by playing with it. This is one of this products that grow with your child and a highly recommend it.
When we bought it, with an infant in mine, I was not sure if it was the right choice because it didn't have music. She had music in another thing that she had in the bed, and she ended up enjoying that a lot, so it turned into an advantage. Light on one thing, music on another. Better to choose what you need.
We ended up using this a lot for ourselves, to go into the room and have some light but not wake her up. It is really cute and soft.
But since she is more independent, she just loves this toy. In fact, every night when we turn the light off, she plays with it, changing the color and looking at the stars. She learned to turn it off, in the turtle's belly, and to turn it on on the shell.
Batteries last, by the way. Of course, we have changed them several times, but we forget in between, so it is pretty durable.
The constellations part we haven't used. Maybe in the future, though I am sure I lost the booklet, but I don't think it is the best thing of this toy. I think the fact that it doesn't have music, and that she can change the colors are much better.
