Baby Products Reviews of Britax Roundabout 40 Convertible Car Seat, OnyxCustomer Review: If you want a rear-facing seat for a long time go with the Marathon Summary: 3 Stars
I am a HUGE fan of Britax. I have had my 16 month old daughter in a Marathon since she was 10 months. I am very passionate about rear-facing to the max weight. I ordered the roundabout for a trip because I thought it would be a little easier to lug around the airport than my daughters Marathon. Also we are pregnant and I figured we could use this for baby #2. When I got the seat I instantly loved it. The Onyx color looks nice..the fabric feels nice and would clean up easily. Here's the problem...my daughter is 16 months now and weighs only 22 pounds. This carseat sits rear-facing up to 35 pounds. She is only 25% for her height and she is at the max height for rear-facing in this seat. They can only sit rear-facing when there is 1 inch or more from the top of the seat to the top of their head. Sure, she can use it now, but obviously she would never make it to 35 pounds rear-facing. So basically this is a great seat, however, if you are concerned about having your child rear-facing as long as possible (which you should..type in rear-facing vs. forward facing on youtube and see the crash test results...if that doesnt convince you I dont know what will) this is not the seat for you. Go with the Marathon. My daughter has at least 4-5 inches left in her Marathon for rear-facing. Plus the marathon goes to 65 pounds forward-facing where the roundabout goes to 40. The roundabout is great for smaller cars so you have to do what you have to do. Just thought maybe this would help someone. I wish I had known this before. I returned the Roundabout to Amazon (which they are awesome with returns). I will lug her marathon on the trip and be ordering another marathon for baby #2.
Good luck with your carseat choice. Whatever you get just make sure its installed properly. Take the time to take it to a certified station where they can check your carseat installation. Also the chest clip goes at the armpits..not lower. I swear..I have yet to see any of my friends put their kids in the seat right. Its not worth it to not do it right.
Customer Review: great carseat for the price Summary: 4 Stars
we purchased this car seat because it was #1 in consumer reports and a friend has it and likes it. i have to clarify that yes, it did tie for 1st (in consumers reports) with an evenflo carseat, but, our infant evenflo carseat is such a piece of crap, i couldnt possibly buy another product of theirs. anyway...
i knew i was buying a top of the line brand carseat, so my expectations were pretty high. it was more difficult to install than i was expecting (thanks britax for attaching the manual to the carseat on a very short chord). i dont know how they expect you to get it so tight that it cant move more than an inch in any direction??? i could take it and have the fire department install it, but, that would be pointless (since you do infact have to install the whole carseat, not just the base, like on an infant seat). so, when i go to transfer the seat to my car from my husband's i get to go through the whole process all over again (as is with all convertible seats).
i will say that the car seat itself is nice. you can tell it's high quality. my daughter is in the 97th %tile for height (hence the reason we moved her to a bigger carseat at 8 months old) and she fits in it very well. adjusting the straps and buckling her in are very easy.
all around, a great seat for the price (got it on sale for $170 on amazon with free shipping- stores around my house want $220 for it).
Customer Review: Worth the Price Summary: 5 Stars
In the past, we've purchased Graco and Evenflo convertible seats for our other children. They were difficult to install and it was even more difficult to keep the straps from tangling or get a good fit of the straps. Britax seems to have thought of everything. The straps are high quality and do not ever tangle up. When you take your child out, the straps self-attach to the side of the seat with Velcro so that when you put your baby back in, you don't need to move the straps out of the way first. Big time saver and helps when they are wiggly! The chest clip is not flimsy like many others. It clips quickly and easily and stays locked, yet it's also easy to undo. The seat seems very comfortable and plush with lots of padding. The LATCH attachment was easy to figure out and install and has better, easier to use clips than our other convertible seats. The seat stays put and doesn't move. My only complaint is that the crotch pad always seems to come off and stick to our little one's legs when we take her out--we've found it lying on the floor in a store more than once. But that's a small annoyance, and the fact that it's removable means that you can wash it. Wish we'd bought this for our other kids!
Customer Review: Great Carseat Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this to replace another recently purchased carseat. The previous one had been purchased in a hurry at a local store. It was a good brand name, so I thought all would be well. But it wasn't! On the previous one, the crotch strap was much TOO close to the back of the chair, making it very difficult to fasten and causing me to utter explicatives each time I did so (in my head)!
So, I went to Amazon to go back to Britax. In my main car, I have the Britax Shannon (because that is my daughter's name). But since this car is not used very much, I wanted to spend less money if possible.
I, of course, am VERY happy with this seat. As expected, the crotch strap is in the perfect spot. Everything is easy to do; installation, placing the baby (2 years) in the seat, and fastening her in. And it is very comfortable for her. And, most importantly, it is safe.
I almost bought this for my daughter when her seat was damaged, but then went for the more expensive Shannon (don't remember the model) since, after all, that is her name, and she was using it in the only car she drives....AND she often goes on long trips.
Customer Review: Roundabout Carseat by Britax Summary: 5 Stars
I searched for months before buying this seat for my daughter. I read lots of reviews on the internet and had a hard time deciding if I should spend $219 on this seat of just buy a cheaper one. I am so happy that I went ahead a spent the extra money. This seat is SO worth it. The print is great and the fabric is very easy to clean. My daughter loves to snack in the car and can make quite a mess. I just vacuum the crumbs occassionally and wipe down any other messes with a damp cloth.
The restraint design is great and very easy to access and use.
The straps have never gotten twisted or tangled like some other cheaper seats do. I used this seat in the rear-facing position for about 3 months until my daughter was big enough to turn forwards. It was very easy to use in this position as well. I
love the button you push to loosen the straps and it was still easy to use even in the rear facing position (this is a problem in some other convertible seats). I have a Nissan Maxima and the
seat fit very well both front and rear-facing in this relatively small car. I highly recommend this product!!!
