Baby Products Reviews of Britax Regent Youth Car Seat, SaharaCustomer Review: Just right for us Summary: 5 Stars
Our 3 year old (34 lbs, 39" tall) has grown out of his Britax Roundabout at the same time as our 8 month old (22 lbs 29" long) has grown out of his Graco Snugride, so I did a lot of research on what's next. We've had our Regent for a week and have just ordered a second one for our other car. This seat will give my child 5-point harness protection longer than (I think) any other seat on the market, which is a big deal to me. Specific issues: It is huge, but that's fine for us since we'll have one in each car and only rarely move them (I'm 5"4" 125lbs and can sit in it comfortably!) Installation (using latch) was not hard (I'll echo other reviewers - read the manual! That's a no-brainer). I drive a 2008 Honda Civic Sedan and got a good tight fit, no problem. I miss the velcro strap retainers (that let you hold the straps off to the side when your kid gets out of the seat) from the Roundabout, the strap retainers on the Regent are a useless joke. My three year old can't reach toys in the deep side pockets, which frustrates him. There's no cup holder but I don't care, kid just puts his cup next to him on the seat. The straps don't twist, adjustment isn't hard. The strap pads and positioner are kind of annoying but not unliveable. Overall, if you like the solid feel and simple design of other Britax seats, this one won't disappoint.
I was thisclose to buying a Graco Nautilus online but when I went to touch/feel it at our local BabiesRUs it just felt kind of cheap compared to the solid Britax construction I love, and when my (big sturdy future football player) boy sat in it it seemed clear he was going to outgrow it long before the specs indicated. When I discovered I could get a Regent for $[...], the Nautilus was off my list. I'm confident my son will be in a solid seat with 5-point harness protection for years longer than he would have been in a nautilus.
