Baby Products Reviews of Britax Marathon 65 Convertible Car Seat, OnyxCustomer Review: 2 1/2 years and going strong! Summary: 5 Stars
Our child is in the highest percentile for height and weight...has been since about Month 3. This seat has been a lifesaver. I am so glad we did not have to buy a succession of seats...infant seat, child seat, toddler seat...blah blah blah...just one and DONE! There are plenty of other things (like wardrobes) that need to be updated when kids grow, so do yourself a favor and pay the money to get a high quality convertible car seat so that will be one less thing you have to worry about as the kid grows.
Works perfectly rear-facing and forward-facing. It is BIG...we have it in a 2007 Honda Civic Sedan, and it fits just fine. But we have tried it in a Mini Cooper...and, well, you don't want to go there with this seat until the kids can climb in and buckle themselves properly, because there is no parental wiggle room left. (How many people are driving their kids around in a Mini Cooper? Not many, LOL) It fit OK in the back of a Honda Fit (also not a car *most* families would be driving). Fits EASY AND GREAT in anything bigger....including GMC Arcadia, Honda Pilot, Honda Ridgeline, and any Minivan on the market.
The straps never ever get twisted. It is very comfy for naps & traveling, with plenty of neck support. Tons of adjustments. Easy to install and move to another car. Love it. The Onxy color goes with every interior without screaming "tacky kid item!". I need to get another one for Kid #2 !!
Customer Review: WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this seat based on the safty features and all the rave reviews we read and heard about it.
We bought this through Babies R Us, and installed it immediately, as I truly did not feel safe with the car seat my two year old was sitting in as it truly wasn't that safe and it was a cheapy from wal-mart (not knocking all cheapy stuff from wal-mart cause I love wal-mart, but when it comes to feeling comfrotable and safe I will pay that little bit extra for it).
Also we are about to take a long trip from California to Texas in about a month, and the car seat that my daughter was sitting in would have been pretty uncomfortable for her to sleep in, and my husband and I were commenting after we installed the Britax on how we wish we could sit in it because it looks like a recliner seat that you sit in your living room! lol!
Now PLEASE!! keep in mind that this a pretty large car seat, so you really should go and check it out in person before purchasing, I know with our last car being a small compact car (suzuki arieo 2005), we would have had some trouble instaling it in the car as it being such a large seat and our car being such a small car, so recently (about two weeks ago) we got a mini van so it fits absolutly perfect in there, I can easily get my two year old in out out of it with out a hitch and I am exactly 5ft tall lol!
You should be, NO, you WILL BE impressed with this car seat!!
Customer Review: Fantastic Seat! Summary: 5 Stars
My husband's Mom bought one of these for my daughter when she was just turning 1 and was ready to turn around and face front. She just turned 4 and we are still using it and it still looks and feels great. The fabric and the chair itself are very comfortable for my daughter and the chair is very sturdy. The way it is designed, it's hard to explain but when she is sitting in it the sides and back kind of envelope her a little bit to offer a little side protection.
The cover pulls off for easy cleaning and the rest of the seat and the straps can then be washed with a hose or in the tub, if necessary. Installation was no problem either. I have a '99 Jeep Cherokee so I have no Latch system and have to use a shoulder belt but have never had a problem getting a tight fit. I've taken it out before so someone could ride back there and it takes less than 5 minutes to get it back in. Size has never been an issue either, but we have plenty of room back there. It might be an issue in a smaller car but really, I'm glad she has plenty of room in her seat and some extra padding in case she needs it.
I just bought a Britax Frontier for her which she also loves and fits in well, and my now 1 year old daughter is going to inherit this seat. It may be a little more expensive than the other seats out there, but it's worth every penny and will last a long time.
Customer Review: A+++ Summary: 5 Stars
I don't know who like this seat better, me or my daughter?!
After doing a lot of research and reading tons of reviews I knew this was the seat for us. My daughter is 2yrs-29lbs-35in and has a Saftey 1st Summit Deluxe. I liked that seat at first, but there was hardly and EPS foam, would only harness up to 40lbs, and my daughter learned how to unbuckle the top buckle.
I want the safest for my daughter, and the Britax Marathon will allow your child to harness up to 65lbs and I dont see her learning how to unbuckle herself with this buckle. I have a Buick Lacrosse and the latch system was super easy to install(and I'm 7m pregnant!). Although in my car the top tether it quite close to the back head rest, so it was a bit challenging to tighten up. It fits great in my car, and isn't bulky either. I didn't have a problem with the bottom buckle being too close to my daughter's legs as I had read in some reviews. Once installed, I took my daughter out to sit in the seat and she did not want to get out! It is very comfortable and there's a ton of padding and EPS foam. I have another daughter due in May and once she's ready for a convertible seat I will give her this one and get my daughter now the Regent so she can harness as long as possible. Definately would recommend this seat to everyone I know.
Customer Review: Great seat for our purposes Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this seat to have for a second car and it works wonderfully. It is easy to install using the latch system and is also very secure when using the seat belt installation. We have used both.
One thing I didn't understand was how the belt clip works when using the seat belt installation. Our guess was that you just flip the clip ON TOP OF a portion of the seat belt and the purpose was to hold the belt in place. Older models had a thin gap where the belt would run and the clip would lock that gap off, not clip on top of the actual belt. With this seat, it seems the clip, clips ON to the actual belt instead of clipping off a particular section where the seat belt will be held in.
Other than that one question, the seat is nice and spacious but still fits fine in our 2002 Maxima sedan. Our daughter likes it b/c it rides high and she can see out the windows. The color is very nice and the material is soft and comfortable.
We also have the Roundabout 50 and they both seem very similar to us. I do like this this seat will hold our daughter until 65lbs so it might be worth getting this for the added longevity if that is what you are looking for. Otherwise, both seats are great for us and I wouldn't say one is better than the other.
