Baby Products Reviews of Britax Boulevard Convertible Car Seat in RegalCustomer Review: Great car seat! Summary: 5 Stars
I spent several weeks researching carseats from all different sources. (Word of mouth, internet, consumer reports, etc.) Friends said that the cheaper car seats were just as safe and not to spend the extra money for a Britax. Many websites have reviews that have parents saying spending more is worth it. It comes down to a personal choice. While the more inexpensive car seats have to be safety approved they do not feel as secure to me. We drive a SUV and I love the sturdy feel of the Britax car seats. It works great with our latch system and even has an extra tether for rear-facing use. The carseat does not wiggle when pushed. It seems as if it is a part of the vechicle itself. I would not want to take out/reinstall often, so I wouldn't recommend it for those who need a two-vehicle car seat. I would recommend it for those who want to feel like they have bought the best they could for their child. Our 9 month old used it for the first time this past weekend and he loved it! The Boulevard has a nice adjustable head rest that allows a sleeping child neck support. The material is not scratchy or rough like another review stated. It may not be fluffy soft, but it seems very durable and easy to clean, which is important if the child will be eating in the seat.
The front harness latch does have a small issue, it does not click loudly like our old Graco infant seat. After reading the reviews, I have made it a habit to make sure that it is latched by giving a firm tug. It has always been latched, I think I am just used to hearing a loud click.
Overall, I am very happy with our purchase and will never go back to the other brands for a second car seat.
Customer Review: 2 flaws - 1 of them SERIOUS Summary: 2 Stars
There are 2 flaws, one of them SERIOUS
1. One of the car seat LATCH straps is INCORRECTLY routed through one of the harness strap. The LATCH strap forms a loop around the LATCH bar in the car seat. But when I looked at it, the right side strap is ALSO looped around the strap that is part of the harness. So if I attach the LATCH strap to the car's LATCH hook, the strap will be pulling on the harness. The harness will in turn pull on the child's shoulder. BTW, I got mine direct from BabyAge. I have to remove the harness strap to free it from the LATCH loop. I am going to lodge a complaint with Britax (if I can find their customer service number...) Perhaps there is a recall on this in the horizon!
2. This is a minor gripe, but I thought it is important. The instruction booklet is hard to read, and is tethered to the bottom of the seat. I guess you are supposed to store it under the cover after reading it. But it will be better if there is a bigger copy for you to read. Furthermore, the pictures in the booklet are so small and so HARD to see! They should really have a bigger and clearer pictures or diagrams. Sometimes the pictures are so "zoomed in" it's hard to tell which part of the car seat it is. Sometimes, the "hand" that is doing the installation is blocking the parts, so you can't see which side is up or down or left or right. Another gripe, the instructions go with steps 1, 2, 3,... but the diagrams are A, B, C... usually it is easier to follow if you have ONE diagram for EACH step, but that is NOT the case here. Just reading the instructions is very frustrating.
Customer Review: I wanted to give it 5 stars.. Summary: 4 Stars
Because I do like the car seat overall, BUT... there is an issue with the buckle on ours. It doesn't always "click" into place and you have to pull the straps to make sure that it is indeed buckled. I've had a couple of occasions where I failed to do so and looked back to see one side of the buckle undone. The other downfall is the crotch strap is a bit too short. The straps end up over my daughters outer thighs the way it's positioned and I have to make sure her shorts or dress are positioned to keep the strap from touching skin (because frankly the strap rubbing on her skin can't be comfortable).
I do love the ease in which I can take the seat in and out. That alone nearly cancels out the downfalls. I've had to bounce the seat between cars while staying with my parents for a month. The seat belt like way in which the LATCH is designed is brilliant. No more having to try and cram my hand between seats to guide the latch into place.
Adjusting the straps and headrest portion is a breeze too, which has been a life saver since my daughter has been in this seat from the age of 4 months (yes, she had outgrown her bucket seat by 4 months). She's now 2 years old and I've never had to fiddle with taking the back off and adjusting the straps and having to worry that the straps aren't fitting the way they should. I can adjust her to exact needs. It's also nice if you need the seat for another child, say a friends child rides with you, the seat adjusts that quickly.
Customer Review: Thought the Britax name was better Summary: 2 Stars
We have been using this seat since our little one was 4 1/2 months she is 9 months now. It was a big deal moving her to a seat instead of a carrier. Our daughter has been 87th percentile and above since the beginning in height and weight. We thought the carrier would last longer. With that it didn't. She liked riding in the car before the Britax. We installed the seat, we have a 2007 Dodge Caravan w/ Stow and Go. Rear facing the seat is less than generous on leg room. It is ruining our "seat" in the Caravan due to the way you have to run the "tether." Her legs are already bent and she is to stay this way until she is 1? The straps seemed easy enough to adjust. Ha ha, there is a plastic cage that houses a metal bar that the straps attach to you have to fidgit with that all of the time to make sure you are getting the straps as tight as you can. The other complaint I have is the "side impact" cushion moves around, velcro might have been a good option. Finally there is not definite "click" when you insert the harness tabs in the slots. You have to tug on them a lot to make sure you got them in. We have a Dodge Neon that we drive too. We got a Cosco Alpha Omega Elite for it. Our daughter loves riding in it, plenty of room and easy to adjust. If I had it to do all over again, I would get the Cosco for the Caravan. Less money and less fussing all around.
Customer Review: Used this seat 2 1/2 years and still going Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this carseat when my son turned 10 months old. We bought it because of the side impact protection, in my opinion every carseat should have it. He is now 3 and he still loves his carseat. It has remained in perfect condition especially for everything we have put it through, it is very easy to change from car to car if needed, the material is easy to clean, and the no-tangle straps are a life saver. I have seen other reviews of people complaining of the strap between the legs not being adjustable but my son is in the 75% height and 50% weight and we have never had any trouble with it and in fact he still has room to grow. Some have even said the wings for the side impact get in the way of the child, my son has never had an issue with them but it is all he knows, infact when he falls asleep they are perfect to rest his head on. The material of this carseat is also breathable so if its hot or your child gets sweaty it will not be uncomfortable. The price of this seat is well worth it my son still has more room to grow in it. We were so pleased we bought one for my daughter when she outgrew her infant carrier. Absolutely no complaints!
