Baby Products Reviews of Britax Boulevard Convertible Car Seat, ShannonCustomer Review: great seat - even for small cars Summary: 5 Stars
I got this car seat for my 10 month old daughter. I was concerned that it would be too large for my car (I have a Honda Civic), but it fit just fine. Rear-facing you would need to put in the center of the back seat, so if you have 2 kids, you would have to put the seats up further, but if you are short, that will likely not be an issue. I had it installed at the fire station and it fit in perfectly -- he installed it in minutes and did NOT need any foam pieces to make it fit properly! It was a perfect fit on its own.
Pros:
1. it is the best car seat you can get!
2. has side impact protection -- also makes a good headrest when baby falls asleep
3. the adjust knob for the harness is awesome to adjust especially over large coats
4. the seat is very well cushioned, soft fabric
5. fits fine a small car even rear facing (I have a Civic)
6. it's heavy so its not going anywhere!
7. works for up to 65 pounds, so we will get a lot of use out of the seat
8. she loves it!
Cons:
1. it is large/heavy (though it is staying in my car so heavy is not a problem)
2. the strap to tighted the harness is a little tough to pull tight on a smaller child, but you need to pull straight out and not up
3. it is expensive
I highly recommend this seat (we have the Onyx fabric). It is large, heavy and expensive, but it is the best!! I had buyer's remorse for a few minutes, but I figured it is the best seat on the market right now and $300 is a small price to pay for protecting my daughter. I did a lot of research before buying and felt confident in my decision and in the seat! Very pleased with this seat! Also, please make sure you get your seat installed by a certified technician (Check with your local Children's Hospital). Improperly installed car seats and improper use of car seats is the leading cause of death among children and infants. Something very easy to prevent!
Customer Review: I'll always own Britax Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this seat because we got a Regent for our son when he outgrew his old convertible. We really loved how easily it installed and the reputation for safety it had. We really like the higher weight limit Britax has for the five point harnesses. We put our son in a Regent for exactly that reason. When it was time to move our daughter out of her infant "bucket" we knew we wanted another Britax. We looked at the Marathon, the Decathlon, and the Boulevard. Honestly, we would have been fine with any of them; but we chose the Boulevard for the extra side impact protection. The seat is roomy, yet well padded, *extremely* easy to install (I felt like a pro! It didn't move!) and easy to use. The straps don't get tangled and they have little velcro patches that hold them out of the way for when you are putting your child back in the seat.
The only thing I would change about this seat (and I admit it's nitpicky) is that the belly pad and crotch strap don't lay down forward. It always flops back towards the back of the seat so every time I put my daughter in the seat I have to pull it out from under her. That might very well change when she's forward facing and not as reclined; but for now it's a tad irritating.
I know other people have said that the guards by the head are hard on their kids because they have to crane their necks to look around them; but this hasn't been a problem for our daughter. She has to lean forward a little bit; but "craning her neck" would be a grossly exaggerated description. She certainly has no problems keeping tabs on her big brother from this seat.
The seat *is* big, though. I'd definitely check it out in your car before buying (or tearing off the tags). It fits just fine in our Odyssey; but I don't know if we'd be able to put it in a sedan.
Customer Review: Love It! Summary: 5 Stars
After much research we purchased this car seat for our daughter to transition into at 1 year of age. Her safety is the greatest importance to us and we decided that this Britax model was the best. The entire seat has an extremely sturdy feel to it and the side impact wings encompass the head area. Compared to many other seats that felt and looked cheaper and less secure in the stores, this was an easy decision for us to puchase this Britax seat.
The Shannon pattern is so pretty and femanine and a carseat is an accessory, so it must look good. :)
Britax states that this seat can accomodate a rear facing child up to 35 lbs. Our daughter was approx 22lbs when we purchased it and we were hoping to keep her rear facing a little while longer, as this is the safest position BUT as with her old carseat, her legs were too long and she looked uncomfortable. So we only installed it forward facing and she loved the new view.
My only frustration with this seat is the difficulty in closing the 5 point harness. It is especially difficult with a heavy winter coat on. All of the straps, chest straps, etc... have to be exactly placed in order to close the bottom latch and it takes a few minutes to do this.
Longer than my infant seat. BUT this would not deter me from purchasing this seat again. It is very easy to move from car to car.
Customer Review: Would also consider other Britax models Summary: 4 Stars
Researched this online and with many other parents in person before buying. I'm mostly happy with this purchase, but I wish the belly pad and latch were adjustable. It is a bit of a struggle getting my 2 y/o daughter to sit back well enough in her seat to snap the buckles in front. As well, it would be really super if this came with a drink holder as our E Bauer model did. That being said, I like the fact this is larger and taller than other seats, as it seems to offer more protection in case it is ever needed (banish the thought, right?) My daughter sits up nice and high in her seat and thinks it's great fun that she can now actually see well out the window. It is a much more secure fit than was ever had with the E Bauer this Britax replaced. As well, this is more comfy given the extra padding...though it isn't that much more. The colors are very pretty and, in my opinion, the most aesthetically pleasing on the market. Overall, a great buy, if only for the peace of mind and pleasure this brings my daughter.
Customer Review: Yes, it fits!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I just bought two of the Shannon's for our daughter and they fit both vehicles we own. One is a 2003 Expedition and the other is a 2005 Escape. She is only seven months old and just outgrew her infant seat. Both are in the rear-facing position and fit just fine. I had to anchor the tether to the front passenger seat frame, as that makes the seat feel the most stable. Once she is one year old and I turn them around, then I will tether them towards the back of the second row. Also, this does fit in the middle of the seat for both vehicles. It is a bit tight if someone wants to sit next to her, but my wife and I fit fine. I am 5'9" and it is fine. I bought them when they were cheap. Do not pay $299 for them as the price is always changing. If they get below $250 snatch them up. This is a great price with free shipping and no sales tax!! Yes, they are a bit expensive, but when it comes to my child's safety, these were well worth the price.
