Baby Products Reviews of Britax Boulevard 65 CS Click & Safe Convertible Car Seat, DavenportCustomer Review: Still waiting to see... Summary: 4 Stars
RESEARCH: After researching every car seat we could find, we were debating between the Evenflo Triumph with the round crank adjuster and this Britax Boulevard. (We also really liked the Graco MyRide, but the reviews turned us off to it and we also noticed the fabric on it was really loose.) Anyways, because of Britax's high reviews and safety ratings, we decided to purchase it. Our baby girl is 11 months old and weighs 22 pounds. She was using a Graco Snugride but it had a 22lb limit on it. She loved that car seat (as did I), but alas, they do grow up.
COMFORT: The seat looks really comfortable and I feel like she fits it really well...however so far every time we put her in the Britax, she has arched her back and for almost the whole trip (her face turning bright red as if she's straining to get out), will continue to arch her back and push out and eventually start crying. She never cried in her other car seat so I'm not sure if this is a fluke (her deciding she wants to get out of the seat) or if she sits in it in such a way that she's uncomfortable. (I wonder if her back hurts.) We've tried it with and without the extra cushion insert and both ways cause her to strain and push trying to get out. Like I said, this never happened before this new car seat. I recommend testing your child in them at the store and seeing which seat s/he does not protest in. Our daughter protested in the store but we thought she was just sick of sitting in car seats! Perhaps she was trying to tell us something!
INSTALLATION: The seat is SUPER easy to install--we had it in the car in less than 5 minutes.
SAFETY: As others have mentioned before me, you cannot listen to the 'click' sound to ensure your child is strapped in tightly enough. It'll click and you'll notice there's a lot of room by the legs and you just have to pull that out a little and pull again until you hear the 'click.' I'm sure it's a very safe seat, it feels sturdy and nice; however, don't listen to the 'click!' It does have excellent safety reviews though...and we trust it to be one of the safest seats on the market.
FABRIC: The fabric is just beautiful. We have the Davenport---dark grey/light grey. We have 2 dogs that travel with us all the time and the dog hair doesn't show up at ALL. Big plus for us! Although, I know it is not machine washable and when it comes time to wash it, I am a little nervous...
ADJUSTMENTS: The seat seems very easy to adjust. The only 'glitch' we've had so far is that the crotch strap is NOT adjustable and our 11 month old (22 lbs, 27 inches) is already touching that strap so I'm wondering exactly how she'll 'grow into' the seat. The straps otherwise are easy to adjust as is the headrest. I'm not a big fan of the rubber pieces that fit around the harness area because they supposedly keep the straps from twisting (which, of course they still do)...but I think it's harder to adjust with those on...
BOTTOM LINE: So far I believe this is a very safe, nice looking seat. I am concerned with the fact that our daughter hates being in the seat, but I haven't come to the conclusion that it is the seat's fault--it may just be her resisting being confined now that she knows she can crawl around! It looks comfortable. She has fallen asleep in it and her head doesn't hang to the side--it actually is supported. I believe we made an informed purchase and if I had to do it again, I would purchase this seat again. Hopefully that's the case down the road as well. Good luck with your car seat research! In the end, they are our most precious possession and worth protecting! (P.S. Remember to keep your child rear-facing as long as possible!!)
