Baby Products Reviews of BreathableBaby Breathable Safer Bumper, Fits All Cribs, White

Customer Review: Just Doesn't Stay Up
Summary: 1 Stars

After reading all the baby books that warn against crib bumpers (potential suffocation, etc.), I eventually opted for the BreathableBaby kind. I knew before purchasing it that it wouldn't soften any blows caused from my baby turning over and bumping his head, but I did expect it to fit and stay on my baby's crib properly. As to fit, the length of the two bumper panels were slightly too small to fit around the entire crib, but I made it work since my baby's crib is up against the wall and therefore I didn't need use of both panels anyway. No such problem solving, however, managed to keep the bumper from sliding down the crib slats. Outfitted with only two center ties (one on each panel), the bumper simply does not adequately stay up. It was forever sliding down (even without the help of my infant son who, yes, constantly touched at it and sucked on the fabric). Since I got the bumper ONLY to keep my son's legs from getting out of the crib slats and stuck, I found a better solution: I make sure my son's always wearing a sleep sack (sleep sacks come in various weights for year-round wearing), which prevents feet from going through slats in the first place. The bumper was attractive enough; just not functional.

Customer Review: Keeps baby's limbs inside the crib, but doesn't fit quite right
Summary: 4 Stars

We bought this bumper because our 4-month-old kept getting his limbs stuck between the slats of our standard-size Pali crib. He also rolls around a lot, often ending up with his face pushed up against the side of the crib, so we wanted something that would keep his limbs inside the crib without posing a suffocation hazard. This bumper does the job - since we put it in, he has not gotten stuck once (and so he's sleeping better!).

However, the bumper doesn't fit the crib quite right. There is a long panel for the three fixed sides of the crib and a shorter panel for the drop side, but the long panel is too short (leaving gaps in two of the corners) and the short panel is too long. We've managed to modify it so that the panels are all connected to each other and there are no gaps, but the drop-side cannot be used in this arrangement. Drop-sides are supposed to be phased out anyway, so maybe that's not a huge deal.

The other minor drawback is that it's not particularly attractive - it basically looks like playpen netting. But for us, that matters much less than the fact that our baby isn't getting stuck and is sleeping better.

Customer Review: Great product
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this product because my son has a tendency to do a LOT of moving while he sleeps--and frequently I would find him up against his bumper pads. Like any new mother I worried he might suffocate (after all, isn't that what all the articles and docs tell you about why not to use bumpers?) so I wanted something that would keep his limbs in his crib safely but wouldn't suffocate him! This product is great for that--it was easy to "install" and it makes me more comfortable with my "mover and a shaker" son getting up against the bumper in the night. It has the added bonus of being flexible so if he were to ever try to pull himself up on it or try to use it to climb out, it collapses on itself so that he can't! The only thing I don't like is that since it's mesh and breathable (the whole purpose after all), there's no padding and my son, in all his movement, will occasionally smack his little head on the side of the crib and there's nothing to protect him from it! All in all though I would recommend this product.

Customer Review: Great Bumper!! Love it!
Summary: 5 Stars

When our little guy was born, we decided not to put a bumper up after hearing they were unsafe to use b/c of the SIDS risk. Unfortunately, he kept getting his limbs twisted in the slats of his crib when he slept at night which caused him to wake up crying a lot. (Not to mention he would throw his pacifiers out the sides constantly.) I asked my pediatrician what we should do and she recommended a breathable bumper. We got this one in white and it has been a life saver! It fits our crib (standard, fixed sides) perfectly and looks really nice too. As promised, our little guys legs and arms stay inside (so do his pacifiers!) and he sleeps through the night now! I noticed people saying it collapsed under the weight of their babies feet or arms, but that is exactly what it is supposed to do for safety measures. If it stayed put, the baby could use it to boost themselves out of the crib. We love this product, and it has helped us get many, many good nights sleep!

Customer Review: Best Bumper for Mom's Peace of Mind
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great product - I'm really surprised by the negative reviews. We've been using this for several months now and have had no problems, even though our baby is very "active." Before we bought this bumper, we had a cute plush one, but baby would sleep with her face right up against the bumper and I worried about the SIDS risk of re-breathing air. When we had no bumper our baby got her legs stuck between the crib slats. Now she sleeps just fine. This is the only thing that works for baby and gives me peace of mind. I can't understand why some reviewers found it hard to install or that it didn't stay in place - you do have to weave the bumper in and out of a few of the crib slats and pull it tight, but it's really very simple and ours stays in place just fine. There's a YouTube video of a woman installing one, if you want to get a better idea, but it really is simple. I'm going to make sure grandma gets one before we stay at her house again.
