Baby Products Reviews of Born Free Twin Pack Wide Neck Bottles, 9-Ounce

Customer Review: Great bottles
Summary: 5 Stars

When I first tried these out I had my doubts that they would work out okay (I had been using Avent and have used Dr Brown in the past). They take a little more time to put together than the Avent and babies don't like to wait when they're hungry! However once I got a system down (I put the two vent pieces together and the nipple/collar/cap together in advance and store them in separate bins where I prepare the bottles) I came to really like them. I instantly got less burps than with the Avent and the Dr Brown and they don't leak like the Avent.

They've gone through the drop test onto a hardwood floor just fine and they quickly passed the most important test: my son took to them right away. He seems to find the shape easy enough to hold now and then. I also like that the caps are easier to center on the nipple than the Avent.

One warning: I tried out the "6 month+ Y Flow" nipples but my son vetoed them instantly. I unwisely had bought a number of nipples which (for now) he won't use. I get a little use out them with my two year old who takes the occasional bottle.

Other than that I'm sold - a better bottle than what I had been using (minus a little ramp time getting used to them) and of course they are BPA free.

Customer Review: I like them!
Summary: 4 Stars

I switched to these bottles from the Platex Nursers because my son was having tummy aches after his bottles. I wanted a BPA free bottle and these seemed to be the best. My son has a better latch on these nipples and I LOVE that they are 9 oz instead of 8 oz so there is plenty of room to add the powdered formula (unlike my previous bottle). Because of the venting system, we stir the formula with a spoon instead of shaking them. Or, spin in between your palms with the bottle upright if not at home. This cuts down on bubbles in the formula.

There are a few steps to assembling them, but I don't mind. It just takes a moment longer. BEWARE many of the reviews below specifically list GLASS bottles, even though these are the BPA plastic bottles. I've NEVER had one of these bottles leak. Not ever!

You should let the parts dry before assembling them for better air flow, but that's no big deal for us. The only complaint I have is that it's difficult to get the vents for them because of high demand. I'm glad that people are being educated about BPA and hopefully the company will be able to catch up on manufacturing the vents. Other than that, I love them, and more importantly, my son is doing really well on them!!!

Customer Review: Great Bottle System
Summary: 5 Stars

We switched to this bottle system when our daughter was 6 months. I wish we had done it sooner. We tried many bottle systems including, Playtex Airvent, MAM Anti Gas, Advent and several others. We had settled on the Advent. This is a good system, just not for our girl. She was still spitting up a lot at six months and we had to keep buying faster and faster nipples, until at four or five months she was using the variable flow thick liquid nipple and quickly these were not fast enough. She would tire out and finish only about half her bottle. The Born Free with the #3 nipple work very well, with in a week she was finishing bottles and the spit up went down to almost nothing. Part of the reflux decrease may have been her age, but I believe the bottles help quite a bit. The Born Free nipples are very soft and the #3 is very fast. The combination is great for our little girl. She is a very happy little girl using these bottles. The quality is very good. The measurements are off a little, as are many bottles. The UK measurements seem to closer to US ounces according to my measuring cup, so I use the UK measurements. Neither seems to be off by that much, so it probably makes no big difference either way.

Customer Review: Best Unbreakable BPA-free bottles on the market
Summary: 5 Stars

Look no further, these are the best "safe" (BPA-free & unbreakable) bottles you'll find. The wide neck makes pouring milk into them very easy without spills. They're lightweight & easy to clean - those inexpensive Munchin bottle brushes will work fine. We used the level 1/slowest flow nipple for our son's entire first year because we found the higher flow nipples allowed too much milk to spill out everywhere once he was able to feed himself & carry his own bottle.

We were skeptical of pretty much all plastic bottles, and so our first purchases were glass bottles - but we learned the hard way that glass definitely isn't the best option for an active little baby. We tried Wee-go Glass bottles w/silicone sleeve, which by the way, we DO NOT recommend because our then 10-month old dropped and broke 2 of them, leaving little shards of glass on the floor(!!).

Born Free bottles are currently the safest way to go. A time-saving tip: serve only cold or room-temperature bottles. We don't recommend heating any type of plastic bottles ever - even "safe" plastic bottles like these. If you start kids off with cold bottles they'll be happy with them & won't know the difference.

Customer Review: Sturdy & Safe = Worth the money
Summary: 5 Stars

Yes, it's much more expensive than the average bottle, but Born Free bottles are indestructible and worth the extra cost. Unfortunately, there are more pieces to put together than the average bottle, but you can easily put the two vent pieces together ahead of time to make bottle preparation a little simpler during the day.

I have 13 month old twin boys and have been using Born-Free bottles almost exclusively. The vent system and the slow-flow nipples (Level 1) really helped my guys when they had some reflux in the beginning. Also, I do wholeheartedly believe that these bottles helped the boys ward off ear infections. Yes, it's true -- much to the pediatrician's shock and delight, both babies have not had any ear infections at all!

Also, the bottles have survived a daily routine of being thrown around quite a bit. The boys constantly drop kick and bash these bottles around, yet the bottles remain in great condition. Moreover, other bottles usually cannot undergo the constant stress of daily high-temp sterilization in the dishwasher, but the Born-Free bottles stand up very well.
