Baby Products Reviews of Born Free Twin Pack Wide Neck Bottles, 9-OunceCustomer Review: Works for my breastfed baby Summary: 4 Stars
My baby was exclusively breastfed for the first 4 months. After that, I was back at work and so a bottle was necessary. We tried a lot of different bottles: Medela (didn't vent quickly enough), Sassy Mam (leaked), Playtex Ventaire (didn't vent quickly enough), Avent (leaked). The Born Free system best for us, he went back and forth easily from the boob to the bottle without issue. No issues with excessive gas and he never collapsed a nipple (which shows the venting system works well and quick enough with the pace of his sucking).
Nice to see the price is really dropping from a year ago when they were outrageously priced.
This bottle has a great venting system. You have to remember not to screw the collar on too tight, or else it won't vent properly.
My biggest gripe is that there are a zillion parts to wash and assemble (this is why it gets only 4 stars). There are five: bottle, 2 part venting system, collar and nipple. And if you count the cap and the sealing disc, you are potentially up to 7 parts. Although, at the end of the day, I'd be willing to wash 20 parts if it meant it would minimize gas for Baby (A baby with excess gas is fun for no one). Luckily, the Munchkin Deluxe Dishwasher Basket Colors May Vary came in VERY handy. Invest in the basket if you buy these bottles. It's a small price to pay for your sanity.
I bought both the glass and plastic versions. I prefer the glass at home which is most of the time. It heats up much quicker, the ounce markings don't wear off and keeps the milk warmer longer. Also, you never know what is going to be the "next BPA" scare in plastic. With good old fashioned glass, you don't have to worry about any weird chemicals leaching out. Ever. I've never broken a glass bottle.
Plastic is good for travel for the obvious reasons that it's light and shatter resistant. And if your kid is in daycare, a lot of them won't take glass, so you're stuck. After a year, the ounce markings are starting to fade and come off a little, but still visible.
I recommend getting twice the number of bottles your baby takes in single day. This quantity worked well for my family, since we run the dishwasher about every other day.
Overall a very good bottle system.
Customer Review: They Leak!!! Summary: 1 Stars
My mother-in-law got us these bottles because of the safety factor of the plastic. But you parents know how it is when you wake up at 3am and have to assemble a bottle with eyes half sleeping and clumsy fumbling fingers while the baby is crying in the background.
If you don't get this rediculous gas chamber rubber sealed completely perfectly against the plastic insert that makes their bottles reduce gas bubbles, it will leak like crazy out the rim of the screw on round ring that goes on the neck of the bottle. But it doesn't leak right away. It starts leaking after the baby sucks for a minute and changes the pressure in the bottle. So this leaking hits you just about the time you start dozing off with the bottle in your hand. The result is milk all over your hand and having to now change the baby's clothes too. We actually resorted for a while to having a handtowel on the baby's chest to catch the milk that came out almost every time. It was like part of getting a bottle ready to get a towel with it.
We switched back to Avent. Our older son grew up on them and doesn't seem to have turned into an alien yet from the dangerous plastic. My husband is a doctor and I'm a math instructor and we struggle to get this bottle to work right. I don't think a baby bottle should be this complicated. It also makes it a challenge for the day care lady too. She was thrilled when we stopped sending these Born Free bottles in the diaper bag and switched back to regular Avent bottles. I think they are playing off the fears of parents with this BPA free thing. Face it, your kids are going to be putting far worse things into their system as soon as they start eating any processed food.
Customer Review: Worst design infant bottle..... Summary: 1 Stars
We got all different kinds of BPA free bottles for our 6 months baby.
and got this expensive one with fancy design venting system to give our baby a comfort and happy meal...
it turns out... It is the worst design EVER !!...
as a fluid dynamic expert, I didn't see any point to make three pieces assembly to create tiny venting system. (the only reason I can think of ... is marketing purpose....)
to be more specific, after assembly, it create a small groove channel for air to come in while baby is sucking milk, however, you need to be very very careful to make sure all parts are absolutely "DRY" while assembly, otherwise, the water will be trapped in the venting groove channel, and capillary force will hold it and seal the whole bottle...
I actually tried to suck the bottle with "wet" assembly... and need to try really really hard to fight the capillary force to get the water out and clear the vent. (you will learn how much your baby is suffering... ><)
besides that, when you put the cap on, you cannot tight it too much... otherwise it will seal even in dry condition.... and not to mention when you need to shake your milk after heating up, or mixing formula... basically everything you do could cause problem....
they shouldn't design such complicated thing to make our baby and parents suffer...
if you ever consider this bottle... I strongly recommend to try something else better and cheaper...

Customer Review: Might be for you, but not worth it for me Summary: 2 Stars
My wife wanted these because they're supposed to be the safest. They're also expensive. The twin pack I saw in the store came with two vents (one for each bottle) but curiously the 3-pack came with only 1 vent. But you can't use the bottle without the vent. The vent sticks up a quarter inch above the rim of the bottle, so if you screw the nipple on without the vent it will leak.
We were used to the Evenflo nipples with the integrated "vent" (two air-holes) so I forgot that if you took the BornFree vent out that it would also create a vacuum inside the bottle when baby sucks.
Pros: BPA-free (and free of basically any other known contaminants as well), special vent
Cons: pricey, special vent requires extra effort every time you make a bottle or clean the bottle
Born Free also offers a glass version. If you want glass, it might be a good vented, wide-neck alternative to the Evenflo glass bottles.
Also, I have read that Dr Brown's wide neck vent system can fit on Born Free Bottles. So if you're a fan of Dr Brown's (who makes a standard neck glass bottle) but you want a wide neck bottle, then Born Free Glass might be for you.
I would recommend these only if your baby needs a wide neck bottle/nipple and needs the special anti-colic vent. Why would they need these? The wide bottles are supposed to help breast-fed babies transition to bottles because the shape is more natural. The venting system, well, if your baby has colic you probably know it.
Customer Review: The best bottles we have used for our son! Summary: 5 Stars
First of all, we are just like every one of you out there...new parents that want to get the most functionality at a good price, but mostly a bottle that our baby will like and works like we want it to. We have tried many different bottles and almost feel that we could be spokespersons for bottle shopping, but ultimately, we had to go with the bottle that our son did the best with. That bottle was the Born Free.
We tried Medella, Playtex, Breastflow, Avent, Luvs, you name it. We had a few of the Medella bottles but only in the 6oz size and we needed to move up to a bigger bottle as our son aged. They were probably some of the best bottles that we had. So many people raved about the Breastflow bottles, but our son constantly collapsed the nipple on the outside of the bottle because it was way too thinly made. The Avent bottles leaked all over my hands even after being secured well. The Playtex bottles were not all that bad, but only were up to 6 oz, so we decided to make the switch over to Born Free. We are having the best time feeding our son with these bottles...he hasn't been as fussy, has had less gas, and has definitely spit up alot less than he ever did with the previous bottles. Having a nipple system that grows with him is also a plus. Some people have complained about the different parts that make up the "system" but it isn't difficult to figure out and it works every time.
