Baby Products Reviews of Born Free Trainer Cup, Colors May VaryCustomer Review: My cup leaks : ( Summary: 1 Stars
I had really high hopes for this cup, my son (19 months) has been using the gerber training cup and this IS an excellent cup, absolutely NO leaks, but it's not BPA free so I decided to try out the Born Free because the spout is very similar to the ones my son has been using. I was so disappointed. I got home after spending several hours on the road and my son was very thirsty so there was my big chance to try it, so I put water in it and decided to try it myself before giving it to him and at first it was kind of hard to drink from but with a little squeeze the fluid does come out, I gave it to my son and he had to suck really hard to get the water out of it so I figured he'll get used to it, I turned around and left him on the high chair and after I looked back 2 minutes later the whole tray was in a big puddle of water. The spout just leaks little drops one by one and doesn't stop. I am so sad because I thought this was going to be an excellent choice over the Thinkbaby cup, I'm just gonna have to try the other one. Maybe it's just my cup but I'm not going to spend another $11 on trying another one.
Customer Review: too many parts!! Summary: 2 Stars
This is, in my baby's opinion, a very nice cup. He can drink from it just fine, and it doesn't leak which I like. But I've tried using other sippy's (Nuby and Playtex- both BPA-free, by the way) and they don't leak either, so I don't consider that the greatest selling point ever. What bothers me about this cup is that it has TWO pieces to the valve, not to mention the ring, the spout, the cup, the handle, and the cap. When you don't have a dishwasher, you don't want to use this cup AT ALL. It's a pain in the neck! I really dont' think a sippy cup should be more complicated than a bottle to assemble. I bought two of these trainer cups because of all the nice reviews, but I'm going to return the one we haven't used.
Oh, and addressing the "leaky" reviews, there are two types of Born Free sippy's- the Trainer Cup (says 6+ months on the label) and another sippy that says 9+ months on the label. The 9+ months one leaks, as it is meant to because it is preparing an older baby to use a "real" cup. And, sadly, real cups leak if you tip them over!!
Customer Review: A great cup that does not leak...and BPA free! Summary: 5 Stars
This is the cup for you!
I did quite a bit of research on these cups before purchasing. I was a bit confused and had second thoughts about them after reading some reviewers complaints about leaking. These reviewers are mistaken. They need to take the time to properly read the instructions and insert all pieces. This sippy cup is a superior product. It has multiple pieces, that when assembled properly, form a natural vacuum. The vacuum allows my child to labor less and enjoy more... without spilling a drop!
My 1 year old likes to tap and bang her cup on things. She has been able to create quite a mess with other cups. This item does not allow a single drop to leave, even after she removes it from her mouth and waves it in the air.
Don't let the price or bogus reviews discourage you, this item is the one for you!
PS-Amazon shipped two of them separately, charging me more and wasting lots of materials...shame on Amazon! Amazon, please re-think your shipping policies!
Customer Review: Pointless sippy cup. Summary: 1 Stars
In a hunt to replace our years-old Gerber cups (with the valve that pops out at the slightest bump), we thought we'd give this one a try. Don't make the same mistake we did. One piece of advice is to try this cup first before giving it to your child (my older kids think it's hysterical to see mom & dad drinking out of a sippy cup!). I almost gave myself a hernia trying to get water out of this thing. And then, to add insult to injury, when I put it down, it leaks out of the bottom of the cap area. This would seem to indicate a backwards seal is forming.
If I wasn't busy shopping for a new cup while entertaining my little ones, I'd consider creating a video review to show just how ridiculous this thing is.
Based on the positive reviews I see here, I can only conclude that either the company's quality control is non-existent or... all the positive reviews have been left by company employees!
Customer Review: Great for transitioning to a cup Summary: 4 Stars
This cup was great for making the transition while weaning. I already had a couple of other brands of cups but I could not get my then 12 month old to do more than sip from them. He needed to be adding several ounces of whole milk a day ... we tried this cup and the spout was a winner for him. The spout is soft and has a great shape, easy to suck from. The rounded handles make it easy for holding. He used the Born Free cup constantly for nearly two months, while getting used to other cups as well. However, the complaints about leaking and the handles spinning do occur over time. By teething on the spout it now leaks. Just one time of forgetting to put the valve in before tightening the lid down over the handle will cause pressure breaks on the neck of the handle, thus producing spinning. However I have yet to find a perfect cup and the Born Free was wonderful for us while making the transition!
