Customer Review: Sleeping on my left side isn't a problem anymore
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm now 36 weeks into my pregnancy and have been using this wedge since about my 27th week. Before I broke down and bought the Boppy wedge, I absolutely could NOT get comfortable sleeping on my left side, as all the pregnancy books/sites/experts tell you you're supposed to do. No matter how many regular pillows, folded or wadded-up blankets or towels I tried to jam in around me, I just couldn't get comfortable enough to spend more than maybe an hour on my left side.
From the very first night with the Boppy wedge, I was able to get comfortable almost immediately on my left side and stay that way for several hours -- usually at least until I had to get up to visit the bathroom. I'm not saying I can stay on my left all night now -- I don't think it's possible or healthy to spend all night in one position, at least not for me. But this wedge definitely made a huge difference.
Cons of this item are so insignificant to me that they didn't merit giving it four stars instead of five; the only recurring issue I have with it is that when you take the cover off to wash it, it's a teensy bit of a pain to get it back on correctly. The wedge itself has gotten slightly flatter with use, but it is definitely not flat enough to reduce its effectiveness in the least, and I am not a small woman (even when I'm not pregnant!).
Lastly, unlike some of the other pregnancy pillows/supports out there (I'm also going to review the Snoogle, which did absolutely nothing for me), this one takes up hardly any extra bed space, is easy to "adjust" to your comfort requirements, and is easy to move around if you want to switch it from one side to the other.
Bottom line: Don't wait till you're at your wits' end, like I did, to buy this wedge! Get it early and use it often. Boppy wedge: $14.99. Getting comfortable enough during pregnancy to achieve restful sleep: PRICELESS!

Customer Review: Excellent addition to my team of pillows
Summary: 4 Stars

I received this wedge as a gift, and I'm glad I did. It's more useful than I thought it would be, for something so small, and makes a big difference in my sleeping so far.

I am halfway through my second trimester. I definitely don't have a huge belly just yet, but what I have so far is enough to make sleeping on my side even more uncomfortable. This pillow is good under my belly, and it's also good under the small of my back. I wake up with backaches these days if I don't sleep with support both under my belly and under/behind my back, which obviously means that I need more than one pillow. I have a pretty good set-up going these days sleeping with this wedge on one side of me (the side closest to my husband), and various regular bed pillows on the other side. The pregnancy wedge is by far the smallest I'm using, and considering that my husband and I are sharing a queen bed, the wedge's small size makes it a better value for me than one of the huge body pillows.

As my pregnancy continues, I expect my sleep support needs to change on a very regular basis. The wedge is a huge help right now, and it's small and simple enough that I expect it will continue to be useful at later stages of pregnancy, too. I'll update if this is not the case.

The pillow seems well made enough for my purposes. It's just a wedge of foam on the inside, so none of the trouble with bad stuffing that I see in the reviews of larger Boppy pillows. I haven't tried washing the pillow or the cover. Some of the wedge reviews mentioned a smell to the pillow, which I have not noticed, and I'm pretty sensitive to smells these days.

Customer Review: For that little extra bit of help
Summary: 4 Stars

Reaching a certain point in pregnancy, I knew I needed a little extra something to help me sleep (round ligament pain!) - but I also didn't want to drop $40-60+ on a gargantuan maternity pillow. We have a queen-sized bed, and it's crowded enough with 2 humans and 3 cats, thanks. I thought even if this $15 pillow didn't suit, I could at least use it between my knees or to help incline my head (to deal with heartburn).

To be honest, it wasn't incredibly useful during the first trimester. A big part of that was the smell - when it came out of the package, there was a horrendous plastic-y odor. Needless to say, that didn't help with my morning sickness. I let it air out in our spare room for a week, and washed the cover twice (with vinegar). It ended up taking the place of my normal between-the-knees pillow for a few weeks.

As I've gotten bigger, however, this pillow really has become a lifesaver. I'm at 29 weeks now, and use it every night. I tend to roll (or try to roll) onto my stomach or back during the night, but with this wedge under my burgeoning belly and a standard pillow (or my husband, if he's not too warm) at my back, I haven't woken up in an uncomfortable position once. I only anticipate this pillow becoming an even better alternative to the larger models once I gain even *more* weight and becoming unbearably warm all the time.

Moral of the story: I would recommend this as a useful alternative to larger models when space in the bed, money, and/or temperature are an issue. Be aware of the need to air it out at first... especially during the morning sickness days.

Customer Review: Boppy needs an organic alternative, but a little DIY goes a long way
Summary: 3 Stars

I looked around for an organic wedge pillow but couldn't find one from any manufacturer. I thought about making my own, but my discomfort was getting to the point where I needed a wedge pillow immediately. So I purchased a Boppy from one of Amazon's vendors.

When it arrived, I found that the pillow contained a foam insert and the entire thing was made in China. Well, right now it's just about impossible to find a wedge pillow that's not made in China. So I decided to work with what I had. First, I don't want to breath in foam fumes (you can look on the internet for all sorts of articles about that concern) so I unzipped the liner and removed it. I washed the fabric liner and it held up nicely, didn't shrink on the low heat dryer setting. Next, I tore open an old bed pillow and used the stuffing from that in the Boppy wedge. This allowed me to control the thickness of the pillow (which I can adjust at any time according to the size of my growing belly) and it eliminated the foam issue. The quality of the fabric liner is good and the zipper is small so it isn't irritating, in case anyone was wondering. (The zipper sits on the thicker side, away from your belly.)

Boppy needs to provide an organic alternative, but in the meantime I hope this posting helps others in their quest to use safer materials during their pregnancies.

Customer Review: Very good inexpensive alternative to body pillow - keep a couple of regular pillows on hand too.
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this pillow around 18 weeks because I didn't like the inflexibility of body pillows (which always stay the same shape) or that reviewers complained that the stuffing in the big pillows shifts around inside.
I do like this wedge a lot and will not travel without it because it defeinately takes the weight off my back by pushing up my tummy. I reccomend having a couple of other pillows though, one behind the back (to keep you from rolling over on your back while you are asleep) one under your head and one or two between your legs. This ends up being alot of pillows but they are more flexible than the body pillows and a lot cheaper. I can also throw this in a suitcase or take it to the living room for a nap or watching television on the couch, which I couldn't do with a larger pregnancy pillow. It is also comfortable to sit on (as is the regular boppy pillow) if you are on the floor for some reason or sitting up in bed.

UPDATE - not so hot after about month 7 or 8. I think this was great in the beginning, but don't expect it to solve your pregnancy related discomfort for the entire pregnancy.
