Baby Products Reviews of Boppy Noggin Next Head Support, DenimCustomer Review: Can you put a price on peace of mind? Summary: 5 Stars
I think not. Not to mention the future self esteem issues your child may have. Also, the price is quite reasonable. I read somewhere that it costs about $3000 to get one of those helmets, and most insurance companies won't cover them. I would rather try this than make my poor son wear one of those silly looking things 23 hrs a day anyway. To the reviewer that said this was a waste of money because your child didn't need it, consider yourself lucky. My first child didn't need one either, and I didn't do anything special with her. She was just lucky. Every child is different, so you shouldn't make assumptions based on your personal experience. Most of the reviewers here said it helped them, so sell yours on ebay and keep your gripes to yourself. Also, to the reviewer that said you can only use the headrest that came with the carseat, that is just ridiculous. I have a Graco Snugride and the headrest it came with is crappy. It's too wide and is made of uncomfortable material. My poor son's head flopped all over the place, so we got one that fit. And any headrest that came with the carseat can easily be removed. You don't have to "double up." This is just common sense. But this is going to be even better than the one I used before because it will help relieve the pressure that is causing my son to have a flat head. There is an old saying that I think applies here: "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." As a parent, I would do anything for my child's well-being. Wouldn't you?
Customer Review: Good for preventing flat head syndrome and as a head support system! Summary: 5 Stars
We use this in the bouncer and in the swing and I feel it definitely helps! My newborn daughter used to tend to turn her head to one side when she fell asleep in both the swing and the bouncer and now she seems to automatically keep her head face forward. I can actually feel comfortable with her head to the side or face forward because she's supported by the cushion. I think she actually rests better all together when using it. It also fits in her car seat - we have a Laura Ashley Travel System - but since it comes with two headrest pads that pretty much cradle her head and being that she's not in the carseat that often, we just stick with those. Otherwise, we also tried it in a Metrolite carseat and it fit fine. If you have a brand new newborn and you are using a carseat - even one that has a built in head rest, you will want one of these anyway - or The Snuzzler - because baby's head and neck will be slumped all over the place... While I haven't tried it in the crib, I would think that if you're putting baby to sleep on her back, it will still serve the same purpose and cushion baby's head just fine. Now, I'm not sure if it will correct an existing problem but I'm pretty confident that it would prevent flat head syndrome if used early on. Since it's only a couple bucks, it's worth putting it on your registry because someone will definitely buy it for you!
Customer Review: Good product especially if you're worried about plagiocephaly Summary: 4 Stars
I first heard about this product when researching plagiocephaly (head flattening) with my first son. He had pretty severe torticollis which caused his head to become flat on one side. By the time I found this product, his head shape was already getting a little bit better and we'd already had him to specialists who said it would probably correct itself on its own.
My second son doesn't have torticollis but he does have a really noticable preference for turning his head to one side. So I immediately bought a few more of these and have been using them everywhere .. in the car seat, swing, bouncy seat. So far at three months, he doesn't seem to have any noticable flattening. It's hard to say for sure if it's because of the noggin nest, but using them atleast helps me feel better when I have to keep in the car seat/swing, etc. for any amount of time. The only thing I'd warn you about is that these aren't good at keeping their head from flopping forward or to one side when they're really really small. I actually didn't use it in the car seat for the first few weeks because it seemed to make his head fall foward more. Other than that, they're great.
Customer Review: Do yourself a favor & get this early! Summary: 5 Stars
Just get one of these (actually, I got two so I wouldn't have to keep moving it around so much.) At 2 months, our baby's head was getting awfully flat. Enough so that the pediatrician scheduled an appt at 3 months to look at it & possibly talk about "the helmet." I freaked & ran to our local BRU that same day. I used it in the swing, the activity rocker, the bouncer & in her stroller, but not her car seat. I also let her (danger danger!!) sleep on it at occassional naps. If I was sitting in my bed reading, I'd lay her next to me on her noggin nest for a nap. (Nothing dangerous there.) I wouldn't let her sleep on it at night, or anytime she wouldn't be constantly supervised. At any rate, by 3 months, the doctor said she had improved immensely, we'd just keep an eye on it. We kept using it & at 4 months, he said we didn't even need to worry about it anymore. I used it for a few more weeks after that, until she started turning her head a lot more at night & started sitting up. Now I only use it in her activity rocker as a pillow because she likes. She's 5 1/2 months now and has a beautiful round head! I can not recommend this highly enough!
Customer Review: not recommended by our specialist Summary: 1 Stars
The product worked fine per say. The problem was that we took our son to a specialist for some flatness on the back of his head (four months old). We showed the noggin nest to him and after looking at it a couple of minutes he said he felt it was good marketing but shouldn't be used. He said that any surface on which the baby's head lies, becomes firm with the weight of his own head and therefore contributes to the flatness. And with the way our son would turn his head and lay in one position in his car seat, it's true that it still ends up being just another surface. He also said that given that his flat spot was due to him favoring one position, it would be important to not cradle his head straight, rather help him move it the other direction to loosen up the muscles. Both our specialist and our physical therapist strongly recommended not using this product. Instead, just lots of tummy time has helped him already.
Along the same lines, they also said that boppy seats and exersaucers should NOT be used because they deter babies from developing proper back and neck strength.
